Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services - Southwest Clinic MI 49418

About Pine Rest Southwest Clinic

Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services’ Southwest Clinic is a nonprofit Christian substance abuse and mental health treatment facility. They provide children, adolescents, and adults with outpatient care services. The Southwest Clinic can also connect clients with additional Pine Rest services. They’re located in Grandville, Michigan.

Once you’re enrolled you’ll be given a case management team. They’ll help with your mental and emotional issues. They can also tackle eating disorders and other behavioral disorders. If you have problems communicating with loved ones, have lingering trauma or grief or are just depressed, they’ll also address those problems in group or individual therapy. Telehealth is also available.

Their facility has several amenities. Based on your comfort levels you can meet in a setting with home decor or have more clinical surroundings. There’s a playpen for kids, and there’s also a pharmacy in case you need to get any prescriptions filled.

Outpatient care sees clients make regular appointments to meet their care team. This level of care is low intensity and is typically reserved for those who have completed a higher level of care (such as inpatient treatment) or who have mild, manageable symptoms. Clients with severe symptoms may be referred to another program.

Pine Rest staff are equipped to treat behavioral health concerns and drug and alcohol addiction. Care is individualized to meet the needs of each client. Services may include individual, group, and family therapy and medication management. Outpatient care is also available via telehealth.

Pine Rest works with many private insurance plans, which may include HCSC, TRICARE, ComPsych, Magellan Healthcare, and Wellmark. Clients should always confirm their coverage, as out of network benefits may vary.

I had an issue with this location a couple of years ago and was taken care of. Fast forward to 2024 and the grace I had extended to this office has been revoked.Things had gotten better and I was quite pleased with the service here until last week and then again this week. I had sent emails to my psychiatrist regarding my medication and that I was running low. I received absolutely no response. This went on for days and when I had one capsule left, I received a message from my psychiatrist saying that I needed to schedule an appointment before my prescription could be processed. Why didn t someone respond to at least one of my earlier emails and tell me that?I did as I was told and still no medication, so I was basically lied to.I asked for someone from the management team to reach out to me, and guess what? I have as usual not heard back yet.So third day without any medication nor correspondence from the management team.I sent email message stating that I have sent a plea to the following, my primary care physician, Blue Care Network, and now my attorney. Please Pinerest, get your act together and treat your patients with the care and respect that you would want to receive.Would I refer or recommend anyone to this particular office? That would be a resounding No!It s not everyone in this office, but you have heard the saying one or two bad apples spoil the whole bushel? It certainly applies here!Again, Pinerest, get it together and be the professionals you claim to be!

So disappointed with the time spent at this clinic I waited about 2 months to get an initial appointment and then was notified that the doctor was taking a 4 month leave shortly after. So much time wasted!During his 4 month leave I was left with only a couple online replies/adjustments. Then I got wrongfully scheduled after waiting 3 months for an appointment and just when I thought I was going to get a visit the appointment that was scheduled needed to be pushed back another couple weeks. After nearly 4 months the doctor returns and eventually recommends ECT treatment, explaining that it ll be 3 appointments a week for about an hour and you ll need transportation. After another couple months of waiting to get into the ECT program, I was notified about a week before a treatment was scheduled that each visit could be anywhere from 1-4hrs!!! It was already hard enough to get transportation for an expected hour visit and then come to find out it could be 4hrs was too much time for the person willing to transport me. Misleading information from the doctor here and could ve saved me a ton of time if he would ve communicated a potential 4hr appointment but I guess he didn t know Terrible treatment and communication, would steer clear!

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Per session payment lets you pay for each treatment at the time of service. You may also pay for a certain number of sessions up front and then pay for more if needed. This format allows you to tailor the financial investment to your specific needs and avoid having a large lump sum payment due at the end of the treatment program.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Pine Rest’s outpatient clinics provide counseling, psychotherapy and psychiatric services for individuals of all ages as well as couples, families and groups. Pine Rest offers outpatient substance use disorder treatment to adults, adolescents and families in 12 licensed outpatient clinics throughout West Michigan. Outpatient substance use treatment is provided by experienced credentialed therapists and is generally facilitated through the use of individual one-to-one sessions lasting 45 to 60 minutes. All therapists are capable of treating persons with both mental health and substance use disorders.
inpatient iconInpatient
Clients in inpatient rehab reside at the treatment facility while engaging in intensive daily treatment. Inpatient care is primarily designed for clients leaving detox, those in early recovery, and those at an elevated risk of relapse. Clients participate in intensive addiction counseling, which may include group and family therapy as well as one-on-one sessions. Recovery-focused life skills training is also often prioritized. Many inpatient rehabs offer evidence-based complementary therapies, such as yoga, meditation, art therapy, and animal therapy.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is designed for individuals with a substance use disorder who require more than weekly counseling and less than residential care. The program provides monitoring several times a week in a supportive group setting. The group meets three times a week, mornings or evenings, for three hours. Participants attend for three to eight weeks, with four weeks being the average.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Clients engaged in a rehab aftercare program have already completed high-level treatment and have begun to develop essential recovery skills. Rehab aftercare services are designed to support clients' sustained sobriety as they reintegrate into their home, workplace, and community. Case managers, care teams, and clients design the customized service portfolio that will best support the client's long-term sobriety. Clients may receive peer coaching, 12 step program induction, vocational training, and relapse prevention services.
12-step icon12-Step
12 step programs are typically community-based and peer-led, though many rehabs base their treatment models on this approach. Participants engage in regular 12 step meetings, which are anonymous, free, and accessible multiple times a day, 365 days a year in most communities. Participants are also mentored by self-selected sponsors who support them as they work through the 12 steps of recovery, which include addressing the causes of the disease, taking personal responsibility, and relinquishing control.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Sober living homes in Michigan act as a bridge between an intensive level of care and the freedom of independent living. The primary rule in every sober living home is to stay sober. If a resident breaks this rule, they can be evicted. However, this environment is designed to prevent relapse, with mutual support, 12-step meetings, a structured schedule, and drug screenings.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Intervention services are designed to assist family members and significant others who have loved ones suffering from substance use disorders. Denial often serves to sabotage attempts to help those we love get the help they so desperately need. An addiction intervention program provides a safe and supportive and highly successful means of helping the family break through denial and gain a commitment to accept treatment.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
While many people know it as "day treatment", a partial hospitalization program (PHP) offers treatment during the day and allows you to live at home. PHP treatment typically requires a commitment of at least 20 hours of treatment every week, with a program duration that spans approximately 90 days. While commuting is necessary, some programs offer telehealth options. PHP treatment plans usually include relapse prevention, medication management, and behavioral therapy.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Michigan provides personalized treatment to help individuals break this cycle and regain control of their lives. Treatment methods are used in various levels of care, including inpatient rehab, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, and standard outpatient treatment.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
hearing-impaired-program thumbnail image
Hearing Impaired Program
A sensory disability, such as hearing impairment, can compound the challenges of addiction recovery. Drug rehabs that are specially designed to accommodate the needs of persons with hearing impairments will include special accessibility features and accommodations to make treatment as comfortable and effective as possible. This may include access to American Sign Language interpreters.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

During motivational interviewing, therapists express empathy, support self efficacy, and develop discrepancies. By using these techniques, therapists help clients reflect on their desires for change and understand why and how they should move forward with those changes.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. The family program is a 10-week series designed to assist family members in understanding the disease of addiction and to develop healthy coping skills.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Recreational therapy helps to build healthy habits and discover new interests that can reduce your cravings and your exposure to alcohol and drug triggers. Activities may include physical fitness, gardening, group games, and team sports. These promote relaxation, improve your mood, and encourage social interaction. Each of these is crucial to sustain long term recovery.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

$300 bill for one hour of "therapy" with my child. Dont waste your time, breath or money with this place. Its a scam. All dr vanderwall did the entire hour was ask my child to sit and listen and then charge us $300. A joke if i ever saw one.

I started here in highschool with Alisha McAndrews and have loved the friendliest of the staff. They help answer a lot of my questions and help make sure I know when appointments are and sort out any medication questions I have that don't need to be done by a doctor. I recently also started with medication management with their pyciatris and have had a really good experience with them as well. I continue to use them as a resource while waiting for my transfer to the Kalamazoo clinic and they have also been really helpful in that process as well.

The patient assistance fund along with a low monthly payment has made it possible for me to see an amazing therapist. If you can't afford therapy, please do yourself a favor and apply for the patient assistance fund and sign up online for a low monthly payment. Seeing my therapist is one of the best decisions I've ever made.

They must be very understaffed because I've been going there for a few years and they never get my voicemails, and when I call back the next day I get put on hold, then transferred to the wrong person, put on hold again, transferred to the wrong person again....the only way I get to speak with someone is if I stop being polite and start to get rude. I hate doing that, but it's the only way I can get my refills. This happens EVERY. SINGLE. MONTH when I call in for my re-fills. The manager's explanation: "Their work load is too full". Then hire more people! I like my doctor a lot, but the office staff/nursing staff is one big frustration after another.
