About Physicians Behavioral Hospital

Physicians Behavioral Hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana, is an acute care psychiatric facility offering mental health and co-occurring substance abuse disorder programs. These programs are designed to be able to support someone recovering from both a mental health condition and substance use disorder simultaneously. They accept various insurance providers such as Medicaid, Medicare and private plans.

The hospital has specialized inpatient and outpatient programs for patients suffering from depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and other mental illnesses. These treatment modalities are designed to recognize and support the emotional health concerns heavily implicated in addiction so that a complete healing journey can be pursued.

Their inpatient program helps people who are at an immediate risk to themselves as they suffer from acute mental health issues. It provides 24/7 nursing care, therapeutic support and a structured setting. They offer therapy, medication management and coping strategies.

Another program they offer is a residential treatment program for those in need of long term care. This program is a more prolonged stay for those who would not benefit from outpatient services or brief inpatient hospitalization.

The outpatient option is also available for individuals who do not need round the clock care. The program offers individual and family therapy sessions as well as psychiatric evaluations with medication management. This allows patients to continue with their everyday lives and activities while receiving treatment.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

inpatient iconInpatient Rehab

Inpatient rehab gives clients a chance to focus on their recovery in a highly structured and supportive environment away from outside distractions, stressors, and addiction triggers. Clients reside at the treatment facility and engage in intensive psychotherapy, which may include individual, group, and family counseling.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Clients engaged in an intensive outpatient program (IOP) participate in multiple treatment sessions weekly. Typical treatment modalities include individual, group, and family counseling, addiction and recovery education, medication assisted treatment (MAT), and evidence-based holistic therapies. Most intensive outpatient rehabs require clients to engage in a minimum of nine and a maximum of 20 treatment hours per week. Many clients enter IOP after stepping down from intensive inpatient care, but some may enroll immediately after completing detox.

aftercare iconAftercare

Clients enrolled in rehab aftercare programs have completed high-level treatment and are typically in the maintenance phase of their recovery, receiving customized services designed to support their sustained sobriety. Case managers and care teams typically begin to plan for the client's rehab aftercare services early in the treatment process to ensure the client's fluid reentry into their home, workplace, and community. These programs evolve as clients' needs change, and frequently include peer coaching, relapse prevention, and career counseling.

12-step icon12-Step

12 step programs enable participants to focus on their long-term sobriety through rigorous peer support and ongoing personal growth. They engage in regular, peer-directed 12 step meetings and receive one-on-one mentoring by a self-selected sponsor. Meetings are free, anonymous, and available multiple times a day, 365 days per year in most communities. Though 12 steps of recovery are rooted in spiritual principles, religious affiliation isn't mandatory. Specialized programs are widely available, including youth and family meetings.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) offers an intensive, short-term rehab option for individuals who don't require 24-hour support. PHP treatment can be an alternative to inpatient hospitalization or a "step-down" option from hospitalization or a residential program. Typically, it requires you to meet a minimum of 6-8 hours a day for an average of 90 days. Services provided in PHP treatment often include relapse prevention strategies, medication management, individual and group therapy, and other behavioral therapy interventions.

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

Initial phases of rehab treatment often require 24-hour clinical care in Louisiana. This supervised treatment offers three main benefits. Medical staff can provide medications to treat withdrawal. Clients can also benefit from having 24-hour nursing staff available to treat any other physical symptoms. Lastly, this setting ensures that professionals are constantly available to address any emotional or mental health issues related to the addiction or co-occurring disorders.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

The first step in the addiction recovery process involves flushing all addictive drugs and alcohol from your body while under 24/7 medical supervision. Known as a medically assisted detox, this level of care takes into account that quitting your drug of choice cold turkey can be very dangerous once you've become physically dependent. In a medical detox, your team of medical professionals helps to ensure your safety and comfort. Most people transition to an inpatient treatment or maintenance program upon completion.

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

mental-health iconMental Health

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

desert iconMotivational Interviewing

If you are struggling with motivation to change, motivational interviewing is designed to help. This method typically involves one or two sessions with a therapist. The technique helps you understand your motivations and empowers you to make changes to reach your goals.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

couples-therapy iconCouples Therapy

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Nutrition Therapy

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

nicotine iconNicotine Replacement Therapy

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Horrible hospital. My father was admitted there and they just drugged him up and basically threw him to the wolves. I got a consent for them to update me on him and they never returned my calls. They discharged him to his vehicle since he was loosing his apartment due to mental issues. He was still in a psychotic episode when they discharged him and was suicidal. Thankfully we got him another round of help 3 days later from when he was discharged. He is safe and in a better hospital now.I would NOT recommend this hospital, I mean who discharges a patient to their car because they lost their apartment?! Who lets a patient leave in that mental condition?!

It's an okay facility, but the "groups" are basically nothing ( except the weekend) . It's mostly just a place to get pysch med prescribed. I was on Grey Hall for whatever reason. I wanted more addiction groups and therapy, but I think they do them on Brown Hall. Idk. Staff is mostly great, but they cater to the fit throwing and ppl that behave and actually try to get overlooked. I asked to zip ties and a curtain several times and gave up, but ppl cussing staff got them and got staff to buy them DR.PEPPER AND STUFF ..... js

I was in Grey Hall for 10 days and it was a very helpful hospitalization. Food is better than at other hospitals, there are numerous smoke breaks and fresh air breaks, television to watch that includes YouTube and FreeVee. Techs are professional and helpful, you see the doctor on video call daily and they offer group therapy and individual therapy. Overall really was a pleasant stay and will return if needed in the future. Huge bonus, most rooms are single bed and you have access to your very own bathroom, AC and heater unit.

I really enjoyed working at this facility. If you are looking for something long term this is not the place to go. The highest of administration will fire u for no reason and will not listen to you. I have also seen them have a meeting in front of patients and fire u and humiliate u in front of everyone. There are people they have hired to snitch on you and they will lie on you and be nice to you in your face. This facility apparently don t believe in writing anyone up or give verbal warnings they will just fire u. I have never worked in a place so rediculous

Essentially a prison. I was told by the warden that it was "his prison." I was told by Administration that the purpose of this place is to "break you. To make you feel as low as possible, so you will know that you are truly at the lowest of lows". If that's healthcare, i do not recognize it.
