About Retreat Behavioral Health | Lancaster County

Retreat at Lancaster County is in Ephrata, Pennsylvania. They have detox, inpatient and outpatient programs, and aftercare for adults. The staff speaks English and Spanish.

Throughout your recovery, you’ll have access to medication assisted treatment. They’ll administer Suboxone to help you with your cravings and withdrawal pains. This way, you’ll be less tempted to relapse. Don’t worry about overdosing, since they’ll monitor you during the process each time.

Regarding its regular program, as the name implies, it’s a retreat center. Besides detox and meds, you can do mediation, yoga, equine therapy, gardening, and outdoor recreation. They use a dual diagnosis perspective, which means that your case management team will work to resolve underlying mental and behavioral health triggers.

In addition to treatment, amenities include luxury meals, an art center, music room, and a gym. Transportation is provided to and fro.

After inpatient care is complete, you’ll transition into an outpatient setting, which can include partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and general outpatient programs. Each stage gives you more flexibility and independence as you progress. Along the way, you’ll still get counseling and receive peer support. This includes an alumni program for when you graduate out of their care.

This closing couldn't have happened to a better place. For years I have advocated against this place. I went there in complete crisis and now I work in the recovery industry and have openly advocated not to send people there. They took in hundreds of patients in crisis for whom they couldn't care properly. They had untrained unethical staff who openly shamed patients in front of other patients. Would throw people on the street once insurance ran out with no followup treatment plan. One of the head counslers told me in front of other patients that I had muchausen by proxy when I talked about my child's genetic medical condition that was diagnosed and is still being treated at Children's Hospital of Phildelphia. That did years and years of damage to my mental health and when I told her doctors about what he did, they were appalled. I have years and years sober becuase I sought out ethical professional treatment and have spoken out against this organization for many many years. Karma got these guys. The damage and hurt they did to people in the name of money is shameful. Good riddance.

Unfortunate that this facility suddenly closed because this place saved my life. I went in 2023 for mental health and was admitted for mental health and I was VERY hesitant about going but the more I was there, the more comfortable I was thanks to the other patients and my therapist Ally.

Accepted Insurance

Retreat Behavioral Health | Lancaster County works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehab provides clients with an opportunity to focus solely on their sobriety away from the stressors of the home and workplace. Clients receive housing, food, and intensive clinical supervision. They also typically engage in multiple addiction counseling sessions each week, including daily individual, group, and/or family sessions. Most programs also prioritize recovery-focused life skills training, including courses in relapse prevention. Many facilities offer evidence-based holistic therapies, such as yoga and meditation.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Pennsylvania is devoted to the treatment of addiction. Levels of care, treatment methods, and settings differ, but the aim of each program is to end drug dependency and empower participants to achieve long-term recovery.

Those suffering with co-occurring disorders can turn to us for integrated healing programs designed to address their specific needs and challenges. They provide a stigma-free treatment center where patients will be treated for mental health and their drug and alcohol addiction in a safe environment.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
hearing-impaired-program thumbnail image
Hearing Impaired Program
A sensory disability, such as hearing impairment, can compound the challenges of addiction recovery. Drug rehabs that are specially designed to accommodate the needs of persons with hearing impairments will include special accessibility features and accommodations to make treatment as comfortable and effective as possible. This may include access to American Sign Language interpreters.
hiv-aids-program thumbnail image
HIV/AIDS Program
HIV/AIDS programs support disease prevention and management in high-risk individuals in recovery. Individuals who engage in intravenous drug use and other addictive behaviors are at a higher risk of becoming infected with HIV. Rehab centers that specialize in treating this population typically have a high number of nurses, physicians, and psychiatrists on staff who can make sure both their medical and mental health needs are met.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Group therapy is another effective strategy for facing emotional issues associated with addiction, and it can also be an opportunity to learn new coping mechanisms from others who have been in similar situations. Because patients are separated into age- and gender-specific groups, they are able to communicate with peers for a more comfortable group therapy environment.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Drug and alcohol addiction often coexist with psychological issues, which may be tackled through individual therapy. One-on-one sessions will offer complete privacy and discretion to allow you to achieve personal growth through your counseling.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Patients with a history of traumatic stress and addiction can get the assistance they need from our personalized, team-centered treatment approach. They help patients set boundaries and establish a sense of emotional and physical safety through their integrated modalities.

Couples therapy in Pennsylvania is typically short term treatment that focuses on building skills that lead to positive long term relationship changes. Sessions with the therapist may occur both jointly and individually.

Through their Family Education Program (FEP) at Retreat at Palm Beach and Retreat at Lancaster County, you and your family will learn the basic elements of addiction, as well as the tools and resources most associated with long term recovery. Their Family Education Program is designed to address the needs of both the patient, as well as the patient’s family.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

I was just billed $1,800 by Retreat. I was a patient literally a decade ago. Had great insurance and any out of pocket was paid off that year. Not a good sign that they're practicing this sort of behavior, very unprofessional. I can no longer recommend this treatment center.

Be careful to look carefully what you are getting into. I went home after 25 days with AkathesiA from medication given to me. I was also treated for an addiction I did not have. There is. Difference between dependence and addiction. If you are looking for help with mental health find a therapist at home I now have a great one helping me withTrauma if this place. I will Say staff members Kendra, Aisha, Jen, and Montana should find a better place to work they deserve better.

Peter was such a a good guy. I was a client there on my 21st birthday and he bought me a cake and personally sang Happy Birthday. It was a strawberry cake with strawberry icing cuz that's exactly what I asked for and I just can't believe this place is going to no longer be. I'm so sorry to the millions of addicts who could've gained help from this facility.
