About Perception Counseling

Perception Counseling is an outpatient counseling center in Tucson, Arizona. They have counseling services to help with a number of issues including drug and alcohol addiction.

I found that this counseling center is actually best known for their court mandated counseling and classes for legal issues like DUI. They can be a great resource for people who are in a legal bind and need to fulfill these types of requirements whether for probation, to return their driver’s license, or whatever the circumstances may be. They are very familiar with the legal system and the paperwork you’ll need to provide. This could be the place to go for court ordered classes and counseling.

It’s also worth noting that this counseling center has services in English and Spanish to make their classes and services more accessible. Keep in mind that the reviews are a mixed bag. Some clients said they received their services smoothly. Others said that they have had issues with administrative details.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

aftercare iconAftercare

Rehab aftercare programs support clients' successful reintegration into their home, workplace, and community. Drug rehab aftercare presumes that recovery requires life-long support. These programs typically offer a wide variety of services customized for the clients' unique and evolving needs. Clients may receive vocational training and career counseling, housing assistance, legal aid, peer coaching, and 12 step program induction, among other services. Clients' case managers often play a lead role in rehab aftercare planning.

12-step icon12-Step

Many addiction recovery centers base their treatment modalities on the 12 step program model, and those in treatment often transition to community-based programs. These programs can also be effective for clients who choose not to enter rehab. Traditionally, 12 step meetings are designed to provide intensive peer support whenever it is needed. In addition to group meetings and peer sponsorship, participants "work the steps" to achieve recovery through a systematic healing of the mind, body, and spirit.

sober-living iconSober Living Homes

If you're struggling with adjusting to daily life after inpatient rehab, a sober living home in Arizona may be a good option. These residences offer an in-between option where you can practice the skills you learned in rehab in a structured, drug-free environment. This transition can help you prepare to face the "real world" after treatment. You'll live with others in recovery and follow house rules such as contributing to chores and paying rent.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

If a person denies their substance abuse behavior when confronted one-on-one, a drug intervention in Arizona may be necessary. An intervention may be formally planned with intervention services from a professional who can guide loved ones through this process. The intervention involves confronting someone with how their drinking or drug use has affected themselves and everyone around them and encourages them to get treatment.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

Drug rehab in Arizona is the process of treating individuals who are dependent on a particular addictive drug. Because addiction is complex, this treatment typically includes a variety of interventions that address the many physical and emotional issues involved.

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

mental-health iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

Individual therapy for drug and alcohol addiction includes focused attention on the unique challenges that trigger addictive behavior. During individual therapy sessions, you have a safe space in which to discuss stressors and emotional struggles. Therapy fosters trust and open communication that helps develop personalized strategies to overcome addiction.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

couples-therapy iconCouples Therapy

Residents of Arizona who are experiencing relationship problems may benefit from couples therapy. This form of psychotherapy helps couples express their feelings, resolve conflicts, and increase intimacy and affection.

family iconFamily Therapy

Family therapy involves sessions where members of the family discuss how addiction has affected them individually and collectively. Therapists can guide families in developing coping strategies that help support their loved one's recovery while also focusing on their own emotional health.

life-skills iconLife Skills

Developing life skills is an important piece of addiction recovery treatment. These skills help you succeed in day to day tasks and live a healthy, independent life. They include communication, critical thinking, problem solving, self control, and resilience.

Nutrition Therapy

Nutrition therapy helps reduce the discomfort of detox and reduces cravings during drug rehab in Arizona. It helps you navigate nutrition, teaching you how to plan and prepare meals that meet your nutritional needs.

recreational-therapy iconRecreational Therapy

Many holistic centers incorporate recreational therapy into addiction treatment to offer you a chance to rediscover joy in movement and motion and build social connections. Activities can include dance, group games, and yoga, which all help improve mental health, reduce stress, and develop positive lifestyle habits. These holistic approaches help sustain long term recovery.

When you call, no one is willing to give you any direct information. This is an operation which main focus is not to help people but to get money from clients referred from the mvd.

This place is horrible. They lost my proof of attendance and I got in trouble with court because of it. Then they tried to charge me for more classes. They are so disorganized and poorly run. Plus none of the counselors are licensed so they don't know what they are doing. Av ... Read More

This was one of the worst experiences of my life. The office and administration portion of the staff is horrendous, but the counselors themselves are decent.Classes would never start on time being an average of 23 minutes late, and we would be held back constantly. The front staff is rude combative and inept at simple tasks that really hold up the entire process.I finished classes and needed to get my cartilage and it took an entire hour before they had even begun to work on the process and then had a clerical issue that almost had me do another round of classes. Please for the love of god avoid this place at all cost.

I wish I was joking when I say the woman in charge is a psychopath. Not only was her attitude COMPLETELY inappropriate but she was not dressed appropriately in the slightest either. I've heard stories about this place but I'm at a complete loss for words

Came here for an ordered Evaluation;Don't let the lame reviews fool you. Only those who want help, can be helped. First you have to admit you have a problem. Great experience through and through. From Kristi on the phone / at front desk , to the councilor Jeff. They didn't do "just whatever they wanted" but acted in a great professional manner as someone in my shoes would hope for.

Response from the owner5 months ago
We sincerely bless you with honor, Benjamin. Yes, Krysty always has a smile on her face, and Jeffery is a top-notch counselor. Perception is grateful to have on board. He really cares, and it shows in his work. Thank you for recognizing these great staff members. We are very appreciative of your love.

So far so good. The only thing that is upsetting at the moment is that, I have class every week and the last four weeks there hasn't been class because they were finalizing the move to their new building. Now the phone number is not working and I have given my email to multiple people who've said that I would be notified before today about the class today and it's now 12:30 and I still have no idea what is going on.

The response from the owner, posted 2 months later...is typical. Lots of words and nothing said.I provided all necessary information (footwork) to Perception multiple times, in multiple forms and have records to prove it.The fact that Perception is not affiliated nor do they respond to requests for resolution from the Better Business Bureau does not surprise me, as the BBB holds their members to a higher standard than that which Perception works within.Fortunately, I was able to resolve the issue on my own, with a reputable company.I do not hesitate to share this nightmare of an experience with anyone who mentions Perceptions. Some day soon this 'company' will be exposed for what it is - just another cog in the machine created to make money from the Arizona's DOC.I am unable to get my drivers' license because the administrator refuses to report the screening to the MVD. Over the past 2 years, I have literally called more than a hundred times, and have sent dozens of emails and texts. I have records supporting everything noted here.I have even contacted the BBB to which Deb Lowther refuses to answer. There is only one administrator/owner...so, she goes unchecked in her lack of professionalism. Just being in her presence gives one a sense of amplified disorganization. She is flighty and lacks the professionalism needed to resolve basic issues as this. During calls, Deb Lowther has raised her voice, hung up on me, and violated HIPPA laws as she did not disclose that there were other people in her office as I was on speaker phone disclosing personal information. The counselors are great, perhaps they can work with the "administrator" with some of her issues.I have seen the responses to other unfavorable reviews posted here...if this is not the forum to discuss/post, I would like to know what/where unresolved issues are addressed as nothing has worked to this point.UNLESS YOU ARE COURT ORDERED TO ATTEND THIS SPECIFIC COUNSELLING "BUSINESS" I STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU GO ELSEWHERE.

Response from the owner1 year ago
Yes that's correct. We do court ordered treatment. and yes to satisfy MVD we need the correct date of DUI, some do not have this. My suggestion is you get ahold of MVD or sign up with your own account to get MVDNOW.gov to get your own account. It's important for you to do the footwork. Good luck to you.
