Excellent experience here (1 month) - the people are what make it great. It feels like a community, led by a supportive, knowledgeable and patient staff. There is good variety in the classes and treatment options (highly recommend art therapy with Diedre) so you can work with the counselors and therapists to find a path that works best for you. My therapist was truly special, but I heard good things about the others as well. They really get to know you and tailor the small group discussions and one-on-one meetings to each individual's experience and challenges. Also I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food: healthy options and a lot of variety. Stay active or you can quickly gain weight! My only constructive criticism is it would be nice if they offered longer beds (there were a few of us there over 6'4" at the time and the beds are too short). As with most things in life, the key is to stay focused on the goal - use your time to learn as much as possible from the team and fellow "clients" so that you leave with a full toolbox for the next (harder) phase of recovery. I heartily endorse Silver Pines for anyone who needs help getting (and more importantly STAYING) sober.

I won t be biased, since no experience at a psychiatric hospital is gonna be enjoyable. I spent 5 days at KidsPeace this October, and my time there was a little bumpy, but tolerable. When I first got admitted, I hated it and wanted to go home and disappear. I couldn t take phone calls to my family without crying. It definitely feels like a different planet. Most of the staff was respectful as long as you respected them, my peers were very very nice to me, and I even made some friends leaving. The food was average, and you do get time outside. School was very easy as well. The schedule is very strict, and you have no control of what time you eat, sleep, etc. Overall, nobody s gonna enjoy this experience, but I imagine it would have been a lot worse if it weren t with KidsPeace

Please don t dismiss this practice based on the negative reviews posted here. Psychiatry is a very subjective thing. It s going to be a completely different experience for every individual. Just because one person has a negative experience doesn t necessarily mean the practice or doctors are bad. It means it wasn t the right place for that person. This isn t a pair of jeans your buying on Amazon. This is a very personal thing. What works for me might not work for you. Please know this practice has MANY patients whose lives are so much better because of the care they re received here. Try them for yourself before you arbitrarily decide they re a horrible practice, because for me, it s quite the opposite. I hate coming here, not because I don t like them, but because of the reason I have to go there in the first place. Don t judge until you know for sure.
