Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Couples Therapy

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Family Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Individual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

I wish I had listened to the reviews of this place but at the time, it was already arranged for my son to participate in the partial hospitalization program early in 2024. It takes so long to get in ANYWHERE for mental health treatment that I went against my better judgment and hoped for the best. The program itself seemed to give my son a renewed sense of fight in him that was encouraging. It's a shame the momentum was put to a halt when they failed him as far as his aftercare. When I signed him up, I kept asking for reassurance that they would help set up his after care. No less than 5 times, they assured me that yes, they would take care of it! I wouldn't have to do anything but take him! Don't worry, we'll handle it!They did not, in fact do anything! When my son finished the program and was discharged I figured it would take a few days to hear from his new therapist's office to schedule him. After a week and a half, nothing so I called them. They had no record of my son whatsoever. That very day, his old counselor texts me to ask how my son was doing. I explained what happened and he told me he would find out what was going on and would call me back. That was on a Thursday. By Monday I hadn't heard back from him. I texted him only to get a text back saying that he was no longer an employee or something to that effect.Don't make the same mistake I did! You will regret it and you will end up wasting time that you or your child could have been getting better care somewhere else.

As someone who has spent over a decade in the mental healthcare system, I would recommend you look elsewhere ANYWHERE before receiving services at PPI, either the main campus OR Division Street. The way they treat such a highly vulnerable populace whose lives depend on their services is shameful, harmful, and straight up unethical and unlawful not to mention the rampant discriminatory practices, and seemingly randomly discharging patients left and right (which you ll see all across this page in other reviews). You will be wrongfully treated, talked down to, and discriminated against, especially if you are disabled. Please approach your healing somewhere safer; Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute has demonstrated time and time again that they do not have the resources, compassion, or people to create an environment that is safe and conducive to recovery.

Anytime I try calling no one ever answers the phone. I tried getting my own information from them and they refused to let me have access to my own records from them.

Don t bother to call in to reschedule an appointment, you just leave three voicemails and then they send you a no show letter saying you never called. Oh, and now apparently don t accept new patients now, even though I was SUPPOSED to be a new patient last week. It s a joke and not worth going to.

If you want your appointments canceled over and over and to never see your Dr, this is the place to go. Worst customer service ever! Your appointments get canceled and no one calls to tell you. Brenda behind the desk loves to call you the wrong name even when you have told her your name a hundred times! This place SUCKS!!!!!

READ ME. Do yourself a favor and seek treatment elsewhere. This facility is a complete JOKE. If you enjoy being laughed at, mocked, and have your trauma be downplayed then this is the place for you. It's unbelievable how poorly run this place is. The therapists are a joke. They must've gotten their certifications off the back of a cereal box. The "psychiatrists" are clueless. What an absolute waste of time.

Are you KIDDING ME? I had a telehealth appointment for January 10, 2024 and I got a robocall confirming this about 2 days before the appointment. The day comes and I don t get a link, so I start calling. Outpatient services won t answer so I call again and the receptionist transfers me again and tells me to call back if they still don t answer. I do that and she puts me through to someone who said he was the admissions manager who doesn t know what s going on but he will find out and definitely call me back. Guess who didn t call?It s hard having a mental health issue and getting in anywhere. I finally find a place and they constantly jerk me around rescheduling appointments (try me PPI, I have it all documented), but they would fill my medications so I wasn t too upset about having appointments rescheduled 2 and 3 times by them. Now I have an appointment and they can t be bothered to show up. I was told today that they re not doing telehealth right now? Did anyone tell me? Did the robocall tell me this changed? Nope. These practices are horrible for someone who depends on medication to function and if they don t know this they shouldn t be in practice.

Typical of all mental health providers in Dauphin County, only in it for the money.
