outpatient iconOutpatient

This is the next step in Pathways’ continuum of care. Extended Outpatient services are provided in regularly scheduled sessions which do not exceed nine treatment hours a week. This programming is also offered at a variety of times, demonstrating Pathways’ responsiveness to clients’ needs. Their outpatient psychotherapy and counseling services offer a dynamic process in which therapists use professional skills, knowledge and training to help individuals using the service to realize and mobilize their strengths and abilities; take charge of their lives; and resolve issues and problems.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

aftercare iconAftercare Support

This is the lowest step in Pathways’ continuum of care. Continuing Care treatment provides one hour of treatment per week. Continuing Care works to strengthen the client’s understanding and use of the tools of recovery and provides the client with relapse information. Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

Drug rehab in Iowa is available in many formats. A variety of inpatient and outpatient options provide programs that are tailored to individual needs, making recovery possible for everyone.

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

mental-health iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

couples-therapy iconCouples Therapy

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

nicotine iconNicotine Replacement Therapy

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

The front office staff is amazing, friendly, and very accommodating. The counselors are caring and understanding. However, the doctors that are in charge of prescribing the medicine don't work full time, so you are forced to deal with rude nurses. Average experience.

The front desk ladies are amazing and I love Andrea. However, Kelly and the other prescribing nurses act rather passive aggressive, smug and dont like to make exceptions. They cut off my antidepressants because I couldn't make it to a couple of my appointments due to being homeless, having no car and a lack of reliable phone service for zoom appointments. I have already spoken with them about this with them and they just don't seem to care. Now I have to deal with hellish withdrawal symptoms! Thank you pathways, you have made my problems worse!

You would think people working in this type of services would have more people skills but the nurse (Kelly?) was incredibly rude, passive aggressive, condescending and smug. Knowing a patient is at their mercy and treating them this way is unreal. Told me to go an ER after abruptly ending healthcare with me.

I had a positive visit. Danielle made me feel absolutely comfortable to share private, intimate details about my personal life, lol. I had a situation where I only needed one session, but I would have felt more than comfortable to return, if needed.

Front office ladies are amazing, friendly, and very accommodating. The prescribing doctors aren t actual MD s and don t work full-time so you will deal with grumpy on-call nurses. Don t ever lose your medication by accident or mistake- you will be perceived as a drug abuser and you will go serious withdrawal... which could lead to many bad things like seizures, job loss, family issues, etc.My advice is to drive far away as you can from Pathways to find an actual Pysch and pay for it, even if you can barely afford it. Your brain, life, job, family are very important- the prescribing doctors do not give a hoot about those things. The 1 Star is dedicated for the front office. I d give them 5 stars if I could.

The counselors are caring and understanding. The psychiatrist and nurse practitioners are knowledgeable, patient, and they do their best to provide the needed care. The atmosphere is friendly and professional. I can go in and I am known by name.

Overall, a poor experience. The psychologist they referred us to for testing never returned the evaluation, and they had no interest in helping with that. Additionally, they claimed they had counselling suited to behavioral and emotional issues related to autism, but it was not at all useful. Rather than teaching anxiety coping mechanisms, they preferred medication.
