outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

sober-living iconSober Living Homes

A sober living home in North Carolina offers structure and support to help individuals maintain sobriety. The home is free from substances and offers 12-step programs, individual responsibilities, and mutual support with others in recovery. This setting can provide a lifeline as individuals strengthen recovery skills and prepare to reenter mainstream society. Most residents remain in a men's or women's sober living home for six months or more.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

There are many types of drug rehab in North Carolina. To receive treatment for addiction, you can choose from many inpatient and outpatient programs. Often, participants start with detox and work through a full continuum of care that continues with ongoing support for long-term recovery.

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

mental-health iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Hand holding medical sign icon Clinical Services

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Pasadena Villa Outpatient Center provides a therapeutic Group that educates residents on how to recognize ways in which their thoughts and feelings affect their behaviors. Participants also learn specific techniques and engage in role play activities to solidify their knowledge and practice of said techniques.

dialectical iconDialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

equine-therapy iconEquine Therapy

Equine therapy, aka equine-assisted therapy (EAT), is a form of experiential therapy that involves interactions and activities with horses. It does not necessarily involve riding horses, but all activities related to horses, such as feeding, grooming, haltering and leading them. A mental health professional frequently oversees the activities (often in conjunction with a horse professional), and helps patients process their thoughts, feelings, and behavior patterns during and/or after the interaction.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

couples-therapy iconCouples Therapy

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

family iconFamily Therapy

Pasadena Villa Outpatient Center offers a therapeutic group that addresses family relationships and promotes positive, healthy communication. Group discussions include family conflict and problem-solving, codependency, family roles, and healthy boundaries. Group members can identify and process feelings about family dysfunction and issues of grief and loss..

life-skills iconLife Skills

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Nutrition Therapy

Support and educational group that promotes healthy eating, cooking, and living. Group will address nutrition, a balanced diet, and exercise. Group members also participate in nature walks to promote overall health. There are group discussions regarding ways in which residents can modify meals to fit everyone’s unique nutritional needs.

art-brush iconCreative Arts Therapy

Art therapy is a powerful therapeutic tool that can help resident’s process past and present traumas and stressors that they are not ready (or willing) to verbalize yet. This healing modality is enjoyed by participants with differing diagnoses and further enhances the overall therapeutic process.

medical-detox iconExperiential Therapy

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

nicotine iconNicotine Replacement Therapy

To avoid unpleasant withdrawal as you quit smoking, you can use nicotine replacement therapy in North Carolina. This gives you controlled amounts of nicotine in the form of lozenges, inhalers, sprays, patches, or gum.

The therapists and administration here are beyond excellent! The programs are based on proven methods and I've witnessed and experienced personal healing and growth. I'd highly recommend Pasadena to ANYone who is searching for quality PHP and/or IOP programs. It's a place to openly exchange a variety experiences in a safe environment. I've had first-hand experience with every therapist and can say they are highly trained professionals who genuinely care for each client's mental health!

I am taking the time to post on here only because of how poorly I was treated today by the executive director, Katharine Augustine. After four weeks of PHP and only three days of IOP, I was forced to leave due to being late too many times. She knew I lived over an hour away and that I was unhappy with the therapist I was provided with and instead of helping me, she decided to condescendingly tell me what she thought of me. She tried to use my weaknesses against me and it worked because I left crying and wanting to die. It was obvious I was in a dangerous state of mind when I left there but instead of stopping me and making sure I was okay she asked if I wanted a box of tissues for my long drive home. She's a bully with no remorse or compassion for anyone. For her to have the position that she holds at Pasadena Villa, that's just extremely unsettling to me.

I cannot thank Pasedena Villa enough for helping me through one of the lowest points in my life. The staff was kind and I could tell they truly enjoyed helping others in need. I feel like a better version of myself now that I have gone through this program. I actually have hope for the future now. If you re on the fence about this place, just do it please! I ve been to a few other places in the area and this one blows them out of the water.

It s obvious that this center has gone through a few changes but it is as life changing as it s ever been. Katherine (the director) is very involved and wants to hear from the patients and values what we say. I can tell the therapists are happy and while I m getting ready to leave, I am so grateful for this place and these people who really do care.

I recently had the opportunity to receive treatment at Pasadena Villa, and I cannot express enough how positive my experience was. From the moment I walked through the doors, I was greeted with kindness and respect by every member of the staff. Through individual therapy, group sessions, yoga, and art therapy, I gained a deeper understanding of myself and learned how to navigate the world more effectively. The holistic approach at Pasadena Villa emphasized not only my mental well-being but also my overall health. They provided resources and guidance on communication styles, coping exercises, and mindfulness practices, ensuring that I had the tools to support my recovery from all angles. This well-rounded approach made a significant difference in my journey toward becoming a more balanced person.Another aspect that stood out to me was the sense of community within the facility. Connecting with others who were going through similar experiences provided a sense of camaraderie and understanding that was incredibly comforting. The group sessions fostered a safe space where we could share our stories, offer support, and learn from one another.I am grateful for the positive impact Pasadena Villa has had on my life. Their commitment to treating patients with dignity and respect, combined with their extensive knowledge and treatment methods, has truly made a difference. I feel more equipped than ever to face life's challenges and pursue my aspirations.

I found my experience to be extremely frustrating and I would only recommend this place to some who is new to their mental health journey.I'm in my late 20's and have had ups and downs my entire life. A few years ago my anxiety and depression got the better of me and as a result I went to another facility in the area. I continued to have ups and downs until a few months ago and I found my way to Pasadena Villa.Pasadena came highly recommended to me for their quality of group therapy so I did have high expectations. My first day was probably the best day I had in my 35 sessions (I believe is was 15 PHP and 20 IOP). They preached and they continued to preach to people that started after me that they have a strict schedule but I found that this was not the case as they are short staffed and they struggle to keep up with the client load. Groups are supposed to be 50-minutes but on average they lasted anywhere between 25 minutes to 90 minutes depending on the person leading the group and group participation. This was extremely frustrating for me because I felt like I wasted a lot of time either waiting for groups to start or spending time on topics that were not as engaging for me. Obviously some days just are going to be better than others but the inconsistency of the schedule was aggravating. Art therapy and yoga are also group classes and those were good groups. If you're not artistic, it's easy to go off and journal or color (I've been having a hard time with lack of creativity and did not love the art topics so I went & did my own thing). I won't go too much into detail on this but lunch (yes... lunch) was also a big fiasco and they continued to change how they decided lunch on a weekly basis. On the worst day, we spent our entire morning session, that's 2.5 hours, deciding on what everyone wanted to do. For the structure I really needed at the time, Pasadena just didn't offer that security. For the therapists, they do care and they want you to improve on your mental health but there were 3 therapists when they were supposed to have 6. As you can imagine the therapists were overworked as they had to make time to meet 1:1 with patients and lead groups and for 2 groups of 15 (I believe groups were normally around 15 people!) that is difficult to balance. I was disappointed because I thought I would be meeting with a therapist individually at least 2 times a week but at a minimum we met 1x week. Between the quality of groups and the amount of time in individual therapy, I was really disappointed as I was hoping I would get a chance to work thru what had brought me to Pasadena and apply skills from group to cope but this just wasn't the case. Finally, billing. I'm still working with insurance but they will have you schedule payments prior to starting the program. They continue to point blame on the person that they let go but they charged my card twice while it clearly stated in the contract I signed that I only wanted them to charge the card one time. They apologized that it happened but the billing person doesn't work at this particular facility so there really isn't anyone to talk to. A few days before my discharge date one of the directors pulled me out of a group 20 minutes prior to the time I was supposed to leave to discuss billing. In my mind there was absolutely no reason why they had to do that and while I understand they want to make sure they get paid, they should not be pulling you out to discuss finances. I was there to get better and this was not necessary to my recovery.Overall I feel like I did not get what I anticipated from Pasadena as the program was extremely unorganized (I'm also surprised more people didn't comment on the lack of organization!). This was supposed to be the start of my recovery from a traumatic event and I still feel like I'm where I was when I started the program. While I hold myself accountable as well, Pasadena was not the place for me and I would urge others to seek out other options in the area before committing to Pasadena.
