Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
A sober living home in North Carolina offers structure and support to help individuals maintain sobriety. The home is free from substances and offers 12-step programs, individual responsibilities, and mutual support with others in recovery. This setting can provide a lifeline as individuals strengthen recovery skills and prepare to reenter mainstream society. Most residents remain in a men's or women's sober living home for six months or more.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

There are many types of drug rehab in North Carolina. To receive treatment for addiction, you can choose from many inpatient and outpatient programs. Often, participants start with detox and work through a full continuum of care that continues with ongoing support for long-term recovery.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Pasadena Villa Outpatient Center provides a therapeutic Group that educates residents on how to recognize ways in which their thoughts and feelings affect their behaviors. Participants also learn specific techniques and engage in role play activities to solidify their knowledge and practice of said techniques.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Equine therapy, aka equine-assisted therapy (EAT), is a form of experiential therapy that involves interactions and activities with horses. It does not necessarily involve riding horses, but all activities related to horses, such as feeding, grooming, haltering and leading them. A mental health professional frequently oversees the activities (often in conjunction with a horse professional), and helps patients process their thoughts, feelings, and behavior patterns during and/or after the interaction.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Pasadena Villa Outpatient Center offers a therapeutic group that addresses family relationships and promotes positive, healthy communication. Group discussions include family conflict and problem-solving, codependency, family roles, and healthy boundaries. Group members can identify and process feelings about family dysfunction and issues of grief and loss..

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Support and educational group that promotes healthy eating, cooking, and living. Group will address nutrition, a balanced diet, and exercise. Group members also participate in nature walks to promote overall health. There are group discussions regarding ways in which residents can modify meals to fit everyone’s unique nutritional needs.

Art therapy is a powerful therapeutic tool that can help resident’s process past and present traumas and stressors that they are not ready (or willing) to verbalize yet. This healing modality is enjoyed by participants with differing diagnoses and further enhances the overall therapeutic process.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

The therapists at Pasadena Villa (PV) are a breath of fresh air!!!! I was there starting the end of May of 2024 and strangely I found myself not wanting to leave! This was my third time in PHP and IOP, but my first time at Pasadena Villa. I found the environment intimate due to the small number of patients in group, which made it, I feel, so much better. It can be intimidating with larger groups and there's not as much time, to share. My therapist was Mallory, who is phenomenal!! Mallory, is caring, patient, knowledgeable, kind and very personable, which all qualities are an awesome bonus when dealing with numerous challenges along one's healing journey. My past experience prior to PV was a larger setting, although I had positive experiences at the previous facilty, I feel my experience with PV, was far more beneficial and effective! All/most of the therapist's are involved in Group, which again I feel is far more beneficial!! Each client has a TEAM of therapists, with different specialty's participating in their care. Rachel had me hugging trees :-), which I never thought of before, however I look at Nature as a healing resource more than before. She is caring, knowledgeable and an awesome therapist and made me think out of the box! Ashley applies comedy as well as the other therapists in group, however she also is very compassionate and knowledgeable as well. I truly enjoyed working with Greylyn with art therapy, on days especially, when I just felt like being to myself..I was able to pour my emotion into my project/group projects . Amy (new) and... Leigh Ann, were also great therapists! I am so glad that I came to PV. As I said, when it came time for me to leave, I did NOT want to go. I recommend PV to every and anyone, who needs/feels a need for PHP and IOP along their healing journey!A. Keys

My time at Pasadena was helpful to my mental health journey, but incredibly disorganized. Myself and others had unresolved issues involving medications we were prescribed here. Groups were very crowded, at times having over 20 people in them, when the expectation was 14 or less. New staff was coming in and old staff was leaving during my whole time here. It appeared that they were trying out a lot of new changes in the program. I am hopeful that once the new changes and staff is more settled, this program could be as excellent as I see many previous reviews saying it is. I was just here at an unfortunately transitional and crazy time.I had an experience in which I did not feel I was treated with dignity, as I was not given autonomy to find a place to cry that wasn t in front of the group, and was repeatedly told to return to group in the middle of a personal crisis. Even after it was made clear that I was uncomfortable doing so, I was made to sit in front of 10-15 other people as I was in the midst of a mental breakdown.I did not have any contact with the physician at Pasadena after the step down from PHP to IOP, and I had not yet been set up with an outpatient med provider or any doctors. Prior to my treatment I was on no medications and did not have any doctors. It was not until several weeks later that I was referred to a med provider, whom did not have any appointments available for an extended time. I am currently without medication because of this situation, which was made aware to staff at Pasadena but corrections were not made. I was able to personally reach out to the med provider and have my appointment moved up by a couple of weeks, but I will still be without medication until then.Overall I think that the time I spent at Pasadena had a positive effect on me, but there were a lot of hiccups and things that the group had to endure that we should not have. Lessons frequently got off topic, weren t thorough, had no conclusive meaning behind them, were explained poorly, or rushed. Newcomers (myself included) were in a state of confusion because of the way the curriculum is set up, so some people do not learn any real skills (grounding, CBT, etc) until several weeks into the program, yet are frequently asked to discuss/callback to/ utilize said skills before learning them. I was at Pasadena for 6 weeks and was told there was a 5 week curriculum. I had multiple lessons repeated during my time at Pasadena, yet I don t think we cycled through the entire curriculum because there were things I was told I would be taught, or things that others in the group referenced being taught at Pasadena, that I never got to experience. The schedule was inconsistent and disorganized. Activities were skipped or moved around many times. Lessons/ activities almost always late. Lunch was a disaster multiple times. My entire experience had an air of disorganization to it.I will say, there are some very good people on the current staff at Pasadena. Some therapists who really care and really carry their lessons well. Art and yoga therapies were both great, and during my treatment they also hired on a music therapist who was wonderful.I think Pasadena is a place that can potentially be helpful, especially to people who are at the beginning of their mental health journey. I don t regret my time here but it was certainly far from perfect.

I am taking the time to post on here only because of how poorly I was treated today by the executive director, Katharine Augustine. After four weeks of PHP and only three days of IOP, I was forced to leave due to being late too many times. She knew I lived over an hour away and that I was unhappy with the therapist I was provided with and instead of helping me, she decided to condescendingly tell me what she thought of me. She tried to use my weaknesses against me and it worked because I left crying and wanting to die. It was obvious I was in a dangerous state of mind when I left there but instead of stopping me and making sure I was okay she asked if I wanted a box of tissues for my long drive home. She's a bully with no remorse or compassion for anyone. For her to have the position that she holds at Pasadena Villa, that's just extremely unsettling to me.

I cannot thank Pasedena Villa enough for helping me through one of the lowest points in my life. The staff was kind and I could tell they truly enjoyed helping others in need. I feel like a better version of myself now that I have gone through this program. I actually have hope for the future now. If you re on the fence about this place, just do it please! I ve been to a few other places in the area and this one blows them out of the water.

It s obvious that this center has gone through a few changes but it is as life changing as it s ever been. Katherine (the director) is very involved and wants to hear from the patients and values what we say. I can tell the therapists are happy and while I m getting ready to leave, I am so grateful for this place and these people who really do care.
