About PAR Rehab Services

PAR Rehab Services offers neurorehabiliation and comprehensive psychological services to individuals of all ages. PAR provides services and evaluations for the Greater Lansing area in Lansing, Michigan.

The process at this facility is pretty simple. You’ll go through some basic assessments when you arrive. This assessment is used to make an evaluation of your condition and how severe it is. Once your evaluation is complete, you’ll work with a specialist to determine what care you truly need and an individual treatment plan will be provided.

What’s nice about this facility is that it addresses both mental health and addiction treatment. It’s quite common to find that people with an addiction also have a mental health condition that enables the addiction. This is known as dual diagnosis. Specialists at this facility treat dual diagnosis conditions like anxiety and depression. This type of dual treatment can help you achieve more long term recovery.

Don't know why my psychiatrist referred me here for testing. It's been 12 weeks and haven't even heard a word on my results. Called the front desk and they had no answers and said it would still be awhile. Awful. *Update* Increased rating because after calling I received my test results 20 mins later. Sad it had to come to this.

Absolutely terrible business. Will never recommend anyone to this circus act. This company is non compliant in many ways and tries to get as much money out of their patients as possible.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
During a drug intervention in Michigan, family, friends, and colleagues share in their own words how a person's substance abuse has affected their lives. An intervention must be carefully planned, with the goal of encouraging the individual to get treatment for their addiction. Many rehab programs offer intervention services to help families prepare for this confrontation and guide them through the recovery process.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Michigan provides personalized treatment to help individuals break this cycle and regain control of their lives. Treatment methods are used in various levels of care, including inpatient rehab, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, and standard outpatient treatment.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

During trauma therapy in Michigan, you are guided through traumatic memories within a safe and supportive environment. Your therapist then provides you with tools to process traumatic events and reduce the symptoms that occur when you're exposed to a trigger. This improves your overall mental health and ability to function in the community.

Both internal and external factors can put stress on a relationship. Couples therapy helps you and your partner work through those stressors and find healthy ways to deal with challenges as they arise.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

I do not agree with the 1-star reviews. PAR staff members were extremely helpful and polite. I was wary of this place because of the reviews, but it was a very positive experience. Would recommend Dr. Julie to anyone.

I was referred to Par Rehab Services by my doctor to get tested for autism, ADHD, and OCD. The person in charge of handling my test was very polite and patient, but Dr. Fabiano was the exact opposite. Immediately upon seeing me during the video call, he told me he did not believe that I had autism, or any of the disorders I had come in to get tested for. He laughed at me when I said my hobby was video games and was so condescending towards me, that I literally got paralyzed and could barely speak for the remaining duration of the test.Dr Fabiano also showed up 30 minutes late to the phone call interview to go over my results, where upon he told me all I had was anxiety disorder. I have been getting treated for anxiety and depression for about ten years, and I generally would agree but that does not mean that I can't have other issues going on. I tried telling him so but he interrupted me and went on a 10 minute tangent about how he was right and I was wrong. Then I tried bringing up the things that I thought were indicative of autism (that I wanted to bring up in my original testing before I was paralyzed in thought) only for him to be dismissive.I told him about how I had gotten diagnosed with dysgraphia and dyscalculia at age seven, and he said this "I don't think you have those. I know we didn't test for that, but I don't think you have those." WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? This man is literally trying to gaslight me out of two learning disabilities that I've had for over two decades????All my interactions with him have been awful and he is clearly incompetent. Take a look at the reviews! He put down that I "wasn't fidgeting" during my evaluation. ARE YOU BLIND? I brought three of my own fidget toys with me to the exam and additionally I was messing around with the pencil so much that I broke the lead and I had to get a new one! Is that not fidgeting to you??Additionally the billing process has been quite a hassle. They keep texting me that I have an unpaid bill when I already have sent in the money twice. And whenever I call no one answers! How am I supposed to get a straight answer from any of these people if they never answer?TLDR: the doctor is condescending and they will try to overcharge you. Don't go here!

It's often very hard to get ahold of the front desk (I think I had to call between 10-15 separate times even with having left a voicemail), but my psychologist (VanBuren-Hay) was great and took it into her own hands to make sure I got scheduled and taken care of. She was kind and thorough during my evaluation, and I had a good experience here because of her.

I had a referral to see a neuropsychologist to do cognitive testing because of numerous concussions and head injuries.I set up an appointment but was told I had to see a therapist first to be evaluated ,then it got called back into my insurance company for an authorization. I was told they weren't sure how long that would take but then I would get to see the neuropsychologist. That is an absolute lie and just another way like every review says about them, they try to bounce you around to other doctors and bill your insurance company for an extra visit.I already have my own therapist this isn't an evaluation referral it's for cognitive testing and they did again exactly what it says in the reviews.Do not waste your time on this place, from what I can tell by two phone calls & conversations, they only want to bill your insurance company for extra money.I don't know how anyone after reading the reviews would even consider this place.

Wish I could give a zero star. My son was tested for ADHD, no issues. A couple years later, wanted to get my daughter tested for a learning disability. They never called back. Fast forward, this year my son had a severe concussion which Dr Shaffer wanted to see us in his office. They only did intake virtually, for someone with a concussion this is NOT supposed to happen. Two months later, still can t get a call back. Joanne s voicemail says she returns calls in 48 hrs called her back after 48 hrs, going on a week for a call back. DON T GO HERE they can t even answer a phone!UPDATE: After writing my review, Par Rehab sent me a letter explaining that they are short staffed. While I understand being short staffed, it does not make up for the fact that they took the time to write and mail me a letter, when I have been waiting for a call back from Joanne since Feb 13. Instead of writing a letter, a call would have rectified the situation.

After testing I received a diagnosis from one of the Doctors. It confirmed what I believed. no plan of action was taken while I waited for a "second opinion" from another Doctor in the same clinic. Apparently, that is their protocol. The second Doctor disagreed with the diagnosis, and being older, had seniority over the younger Doctor. My hope of having my condition treated ended there. My family Doctor told me there is another agency in the state that could test me, and that they would likely agree with the original diagnosis, but it would take months to get an appointment, it was 80 miles away, and, it would cost me another $300.00, the portion my insurance didn't cover. Avoid PAR rehab.

I give this practice and my experience 5 Stars! My initial contact was with Katie when I called to schedule my appointment! Katie was friendly, helpful and professional! The only time I needed to leave a message, Katie returned my call the same business day.Jennifer, the front counter staff who assisted me with paperwork and check in was welcoming and happy to answer all of my questions.3 to 4 hours of testing can be daunting for anyone! Kylee, the tester was great! She was personable, patient, and took her time to explain instructions. Her easy going demeanor helped calm my nerves and focus.Dr VanBuren-Hay met with me after the testing session. She took the time to get to know me. She seemed genuinely interested in me and why I was there for assistance. She was kind, encouraging, patient, and reassuring. She made me feel very comfortable and the process less intimidating. I look forward to speaking to her again when my report is complete. Both the Kylee and Dr. Brooke VanBuren-Hay informed me that the test results/report can take a few weeks to complete. My follow up appointment to go over the results with Dr Brooke VanBuren-Hay was scheduled at the end of my appointment.Overall, my experience was very positive!I know this is a long review, but after reading some of the negative reviews, I thought I should take the time to share my positive experience.I appreciate the staff and the services they provide at PAR Rehab!
