Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Was a patient on the adolescent unit in June 2022 after being surrendered on a 5150 at a local hospital. I am not a resident, nor have I ever been a resident of the CHS area, and this facility is about an hour and a half drive from my residence. If you care about your children, do not send them here. They forced me to take hydroxyzine (I had never taken it before) and I had a very negative reaction to it and staff left me to sit unresponsive but conscious for 6 hours in the common room without checking on me once. Some of the other patients were corralled around & were the ones actually checking on me- the patients had more empathy than the staff. They also tried to get the staff to help me, but the staff ignored them & me until it was time for us to go to our rooms. I didn't even know how much time had passed. I had to be carried to my room by three staff members. I never recieved proper medical treatment for my reaction to the medication. They also failed to inform my legal guardian of my reaction to the medication even though they said that they did. Additionally, I now have heart rhythm problems because they put me on citalopram (which has not been approved for use in adolescents).Fights break out on the daily and my life/wellbeing was threatened at least a dozen times while I was here by both other patients and staff. One fight was so bad they had to bring in hospital workers to do x-rays on the patients who had taken beatings. The doctors do not listen to your concerns regarding medication changes/side effects and this facility does not aim to treat the cause of patients' problems- they just drug you up to stop the symptoms and send you out to figure it out on your own after signing a contract so they won't be legally liable if you do something. Additionally, they did nothing about an older patient (17 y/o) making advances and saying innapropriate things to/about two of the younger patients (12 y/o).None of the other patients or myself was allowed visitation due to "Covid restrictions" despite the fact that minimal to zero other protections had been put into place for patients regarding illness. This is not a safe facility whatsoever, and the gross negligence from staff is genuinely disgusting. They do not offer dietary accomodations, and the cleanliness of the facility is extremely questionable. This place needs to be closed down and the people who run it need to be investigated. Me and many others have left this facility with more trauma than we arrived with.

If I could leave 0 stars for this poor excuse of a facility I would. If you or anyone that you love needs any form of behavioral or mental health, don't walk away from this place...RUN!! Negligence does not even begin to describe what is happening behind their doors. Anyone unfortunate enough to be placed in their care WILL leave in worse shape than they came in. The staff has no idea of anything going on. The doctors are not on-site and they are not properly staffed or equipped to handle any urgent medical intervention. Please DO NOT send anyone here!! They should not even be open. It is absolutely sickening to witness the things taking place at this "medical facility". CLOSE THEM DOWN!!!!!

I recently spent time at Palmetto Lowcountry Behavioral Health, and unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. While the staff were kind and did their best, the facility itself has serious issues that need addressing.First and foremost, the safety and comfort of patients are compromised. I, along with other women, had to deal with inappropriate behavior from a male patient who repeatedly engaged in explicit actions. Staff seemed unable to act, citing administrative restrictions, which left many of us feeling uncomfortable and unprotected. The environment itself is not conducive to healing. The lighting is harsh and anxiety-inducing, and loud music blared for hours, which only heightened stress. On the therapy side, I was disappointed that only group sessions were available, with no option for individual therapy. A balance of group and individual therapy is crucial, but here, that balance is missing.Another uncomfortable aspect was the bathroom situation. Rooms were locked during the day, meaning we had to request access to the bathroom, which felt demeaning as an adult. This setup could easily be adjusted to respect patients privacy and dignity. Finally, the entire facility operates on paper records, with no computer systems in place. This approach feels outdated and slows down processes, impacting the quality of care. While the staff were compassionate and hardworking, the facility's practices and policies need a serious overhaul to create a safe, supportive, and respectful environment for patients.

Staff was very friendly, very knowledgable about detox process and helping patients in hospital. The food was questionable, not sure how often the floor is mopped but it was not very clean.
