About Parkwood Behavioral Health System

Parkwood Behavioral Health System offers comprehensive mental health and addiction treatment services. They’re located in Olive Branch, Mississippi, next to Olive Branch City Park. They have behavioral health programs for children ages 9 to 11, adolescent services, adult services, and senior adult services. The center accepts many major insurance providers. They’ll also work with you to find financially manageable ways of getting the care you need.

If your child is using alcohol or drugs or acting out and having problems in school, they can address their issues. Their programs for children and teens include education services, so your child is not missing out on school.

They have an adult detox program. They also have an inpatient center where you can start treatment for substance use and dual diagnosis mental health disorders. Some of the disorders they treat include schizophrenia, codependency, anxiety, depression, suicidal thoughts, phobias, anger and other dangerous behaviors.

The components of their acute inpatient care program include art and pet therapies, proper nutrition, yoga, relaxation groups, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, and medication. They also have 12 Step programs onsite.

If you need less restrictive care than the inpatient program but you’re not ready for an intensive outpatient program, you can choose the adult partial hospitalization program (PHP). This is a good step down after leaving the inpatient program, and you’ll still get individualized care. The PHP is five days a week, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

The adult intensive outpatient program (IOP) has group therapy if you need more than weekly therapy. This is also a good program to help with the transition back to your life. This program also meets five days a week Monday through Friday, but it’s from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. If you need to attend treatment from home, you can opt for the adult virtual intensive outpatient program which meets Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Parkwood Behavioral Health System’s Intensive Outpatient Programs consist of group therapy for patients who abuse or are dependent on alcohol or drugs, or patients who have psychiatric issues or patients who have both substance abuse issues and psychiatric issues. Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)is designed to meet the needs of adults, 18 years and older, who are experiencing problems with addictive disease and/or psychiatric symptoms, but are not in acute situations. The program provides intensive treatment while adults maintain their jobs and family obligations.

inpatient iconInpatient

Acute Inpatient Care offers a safe, structured environment with treatment administered by a multi-disciplinary team of mental health professionals. Therapeutic components may include individual, group and family therapy, and activity therapy (offered for children, adolescents and adults). Residential Treatment Program (Adolescents only) is provided when an adolescent needs a longer, more stable environment than provided by inpatient care. This option provides a safe living environment for adolescents ages 12-17 so they can receive professional behavioral healthcare in a caring group setting. Programs are held 5 days per week, from 5:30 pm – 8:30 pm. There are two tracks available – one for patients with psychiatric issues and one for patients with substance abuse/dependence issues.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Discharge planning begins the first day of admission; they keep their eye on the goal during the whole process. While each patient begins to address his or her goals and family members participate in the process of change, the therapist coordinates the transition from treatment to home. Weekend passes allow residents and their families the opportunity to prepare for discharge. Issues that arise on passes are discussed in family, group, and individual therapy.

partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program

Recommended as a flexible and intensive addiction treatment option, a partial hospitalization program (PHP) is often used as an alternative to inpatient rehab. With daily sessions typically lasting up to six hours for five days a week, PHP treatment provides evidence-based therapies and medical care while allowing you to return home every evening. The length of PHP treatment varies based on your needs, but it averages 90 days.

In addition to meeting the school needs of their patients, they also offer a therapeutic day school program which works in conjunction with various school systems to meet their special education needs.

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

For those seeking help with addiction, a drug rehab in Mississippi offers the necessary care to achieve long-term recovery. Options include inpatient, residential, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and long-term drug rehab in Mississippi.

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

mental-health iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

family iconFamily Therapy

At Parkwood Behavioral Health System, family involvement is a vital part of their treatment process. Because may patients return home, it is important that family members become actively involved in the therapeutic process. Their counselors and staff educate family members on the patient’s treatment goals and needs. Just as importantly, their counselors assist family members in working through their own feelings about the process.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

desert iconMotivational Interviewing

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

life-skills iconLife Skills

Often, substance use and mental health disorders weaken basic life skills. This makes daily functioning a challenge and can lead to a cycle of addiction. To help you break free from this cycle, drug rehab programs include integrated life skills training which helps you redevelop or strengthen the life skills you need for success.

When it comes to the staff, I would say about 90 % of them are truly empathetic & care deeply for there still is about 10 % that only care about a paycheck and don't care at all for the patients or their issues. I was admitted July 3rd 24 and released July 17th 24. I was ... Read More

This place is AWFUL. Please don't send your loved ones here. I am a 17 year old female and I was sent to Parkwood to receive mental help and medication for my depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts. The staff were INCREDIBLY RUDE. The staff would not let you go to the bathroom when needed, they were very mean to the children, and were only there to "get paid." Half of my belongings brought to me by my mother we're lost, and the items I did receive weren't given to me until days later. Never in my life have I seen a more unprofessional facility. The staff at the front desk also admitted to the facility lacking in money. They were also heavily understaffed. They do not care about helping you whatsoever. I only saw my therapist two times, for about 30 minutes each time, for the entire duration of my stay. They did not provide scrubs, gowns, socks, and other necessary hygiene products. They were constantly out of PADS and TAMPONS as well. I can not stress to you enough how horrifying this experience was for me, and what I've written in this review is only the tip of the iceberg, there's so much more I could say. The entire facility is just a cash grab. I can't remember the doctors name,(probably due to my brain trying to block out this entire traumatic experience) but I've seen him mentioned in some other reviews, and just from the description other reviewers have given I know that we're referring to the same "doctor." I believe he was an older gentleman and if I'm rembering correctly he was one of the first people I spoke to once I had gotten "settled" in. I was taken to an office room of some sort with multiple people plus the "doctor" and he began asking me what my hobbies were....I started listing off activities I considered to be my hobbies at the time to which he replies "those aren't hobbies." I think my hobbies stated at the time (before he interrupted me to discredit the legitimacy of my hobbies) were "watching tv, swimming, painting" things of that nature....I broke down in tears because of how rude he was being and he, without giving any comfort or consoling, sent me back to the day room. It was also recommended to my mother that I should be sent to a RESIDENTIAL facility AFTER NOT RECEIVING ANY HELP DURING THE ENTIRE DURATION OF MY STAY....I'm gonna leave you with this....this place and the staff makes me absolutely sick to my stomach, and I am infuriated that this facility is even allowed to stay open. I received no legitimate help and best chances are you won't either.

I have just been released from the Ivy Trails unit. And I have to say that from the moment I walked in those doors I was admitted by nurse Pam and tech Tonya, they were very gentle and sweet explaining everything to me. Very attentive as well. The night tech Natalie was amazing and very cheerful and caring not just with me but all the women that are there. Nurse Rachel and tech Diana were also amazing. Very attentive and caring as well. Ms. Marquita was extremely helpful and caring. Her therapy session were very helpful and beneficial for me. Above all I got the care I needed. Thank you again to the Ivy Trails staff for all your help and care.

The only reason I m giving a review because I am legit concerned about this place. I came here back in June after an altercation with my father (Who was the one who was pushing me to come here from the time I touched down in MS) and having no where else to go. From day one it was concerning, they put me in a room with another patient that had the room smelling awful! So bad that the smelled rubbed off on me & they talked about me for it instead of cleaning and sanitizing the room. I was brought in by police so I had nothing because it was unsafe for me to return into the house & grab anything. I wasn t issued scrubs until THEY were tired of the way I smelled and wanted me to shower. They saw I was out of it from the incident and didn t think about the fact Okay, she had blood on her . I only opted to stay there cause I have been dealing with anxiety and felt I needed help anyway cause the incident only heightened my anxiety. While I was there it seemed as if I walked in with a diagnosis already. Schizophrenia (the voices I was hearing was my dad s constant telling me to get out for any ole thing) that was induced by marijuana (I later saw on my paperwork). Staff yelled at me when I got frustrated about their treatment towards me, staff would say rude stuff like they knew you personally. I had to ask several times where is my daughter (keep in mind I was brought in by the police) they told me CPS when come to find out my daughter was still with the man that attacked me. They even put on my paperwork my child was with CPS when that wasn t the truth. Makes me wonder were they willing working with him? The doctor came and talked to me less than 15 mins before saying she wouldn t listen to a liar and ended our meeting. The first doctor was kind of rude and it seemed everyone knew something that I didn t and was playing along with it. That place was strange, but I do agree needs to be investigated.
