About Odyssey House Louisiana Inc

Odyssey House provides substance abuse and mental health treatment in New Orleans, Louisiana. They have an intensive outpatient and on site housing program. If you need higher intensity care, they may refer you to another location.

The intensive outpatient program is unique because it allows residents to live on the premises while in treatment. The service lasts three to six months, depending on the needs of the individual.

Residents have a safe, secure environment that promotes recovery. You’ll have life skills training that assists with employment after treatment. This phase is considered a step down service as you must complete their residential program before you can move to intensive outpatient services. The intensive outpatient phase offers a transition so residents can continue recovery efforts.

Case management is available for guidance and can help you find affordable, safe housing, to start fresh on your sober path. They may provide referrals to community agencies and resources when needed. Parenting classes and vocational training are included to help support positive lifestyle changes and improved career abilities.

Intensive outpatient typically includes individual and group therapy sessions. Individual sessions allow one on one time with a professional skilled in addiction care. You may work on learning healthier coping strategies, recognizing substance triggers and developing relapse prevention methods for future use.

Group therapy includes others in recovery who can understand your addiction challenges and may share similar backgrounds. They can often give valuable feedback related to your sobriety. Their complete continuum of care model aims to provide the tools and resources needed to become a productive member of the community without substance use.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Clients enrolled in outpatient rehab typically need less intensive supervision and support than those in inpatient care. Clients may continue to work and attend school while participating in addiction counseling and recovery education during the evening, night, or weekend. Clients also often enter intensive outpatient (IOP) treatment immediately upon exiting residential care, which provides them with high-level step-down support as they reintegrate into their homes and communities.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements. OHL offers a short-term (approximately 28-day) residential drug rehabilitation program, which intensively focuses on the most basic aspects of drug rehab treatment, such as abstinence from drug abuse, life skills building, and recovery tools.

sober-living iconSober Living Homes

Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

While each drug rehab in Louisiana offers unique elements, recovery support often follows a similar pattern. Detox is followed by inpatient and/or outpatient care, then aftercare support is provided once the participant completes the initial program.

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

mental-health iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Hand holding medical sign icon Clinical Services

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

couples-therapy iconCouples Therapy

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

life-skills iconLife Skills

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

desert iconMotivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

The staff were amazing. Detox they took very good care Of me. No one knew my bad behavior, caused by seizures. 5 different types. Walking talking worst. I'm mean violent, after seizures. They dealt with me, kindly, I wasn't nice at all. I still have doctors they set me up with. 5/6 years ago, I was there. Before you judge staff, look at yourself. Detox, is hard. They still deal with you and your bad behavior. You are no Saint, if your in Odd. House. I'm alive because those men, and women. Ellen Trauth

The Detox Center and The Long-Term Resisential Program are good. But if you're going to the Short-Term Residential Program, please go somewhere else. The Short-Term Residential Program doesnt care about your well-being, your recovery, your safety, or your sobriety post-completion. You will have no support. There are individual staff that want to help in whatever way they can, but they are so overworked and burnt out that they cant help anyone after a while. Everything will be against you in the Short Term Residential program.

The detox is amazing. TVs in all the beds, decaf coffee, red delicious apples and hot chocolate 24/7 and the staff is accommodating. Keep in mind these places deal with a tons of people detoxing and lots of aggressive people so they are a bit tense. But considering all they deal with they do wonders. A tech even bought me a pack of cigarettes when I was transferring to the 28 day program. They also give you all the meds you need to detox with as little pain as possible, suboxone, valume, anxiety meds, nausea meds.

Ms Allison is the sweetest most caring person there, but her co worker Frances wrongfully discharged my daughter, she was crying on the phone not wanting to leave, she violated her HIPPA rights. She specifically signed a sign of release form that said only let her probation officer know that her counselor is out. She brought her to the lobby and said you didn t go to court! Which she did. She also had a mental health assessment the next day which she needed her social her id and some other things. I didn t know exactly where they were at or I would ve brought it to her. The counseled Frances should NOT be working there, not only did she put my daughter in danger by sending her out to the streets, she almost had her jailed. She is not the type of person I d like near anyone trying to get help

I have witnessed so many lives changed because of the work that OHL does for individuals and the community. When it seems no one cares, the staff at OHL never stops caring. Even in the worst of times when others walk away, Odyssey House Louisiana will always be there!
