About Oakwood Springs

Oakwood Springs offers individualized treatment for mental health and substance use disorder. They’re located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They’re Joint Commission accredited and LegitScript certified. This means that they met the standards for the highest quality of care.

They also address co-occurring disorders. This is when someone is simultaneously dealing with both mental health and substance use disorders. Their substance use recovery program includes medical detox, inpatient rehabilitation and outpatient care. Both inpatient rehab and detox are two aspects of inpatient recovery that occur at their clinic. This highly structured and therapeutic environment facilitates safe recovery.

Their comprehensive inpatient care starts with assessment and individualized treatment planning. This is followed by detox and inpatient rehabilitation therapy. Detox weans you off addiction related toxins that are in your body in preparation for the main therapy. It involves stabilization with 24/7 monitoring by their medical staff. These experts may administer medication to minimize withdrawal symptoms. This ensures your withdrawal is safe and comfortable. This facility even offers acute stabilization for suicidal patients and those experiencing hallucinations.

Their detox takes between three to 10 days and is followed by intensive inpatient rehabilitation therapy. You can receive therapy for co-occurring conditions at this stage. This program integrates the 12 Step model and evidence based approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy and motivational interviewing. These are delivered in a group, individual and family format. You’ll also have the opportunity to connect with peers through NA and AA meetings. They even incorporate holistic practices like relaxation, yoga and music/art therapy. This promotes whole person treatment that heals the body, soul and spirit.

After inpatient care, you can step down to either of their outpatient programs. This can be partial hospitalization or intensive outpatient care. The partial hospitalization program is more structured and requires more therapy sessions. You’ll participate in up to 12 hours of therapy daily, five days a week. Services include wellness education, recreational activities and medication management. You’ll also participate in family and group meetings focused on helping you build solid coping strategies.

You can consider their intensive outpatient program if you don’t want the intensity of the partial hospitalization program. This program lasts three to five days a week and involves three hours of therapy daily. It involves supervised medication management, education classes and life skill training. You’ll also participate in individual talk therapy or support meetings.

Their aftercare services include alumni support groups for ongoing support. They may also connect you to other community resources like meetings for AA or NA.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehabs provide extra support for clients in early recovery and those at a high risk of relapse. They allow clients to focus on their sobriety safe from outside distractions, stressors, and addiction triggers. Clients reside at the treatment center for the length of their program, where they receive extensive addiction counseling, including individual, group, and family therapy. Many programs also offer robust life skills training and holistic therapies, such as meditation.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Clients enrolled in rehab aftercare programs have typically completed weeks or months of intensive treatment, often in inpatient detox and/or rehab centers, and may be receiving outpatient care. Drug rehab aftercare is designed to approach recovery as a life-long process. Clients and their case managers and care teams typically work together to formulate clients' continuing care plan, which may include peer coaching, career counseling, and 12 step program facilitation, among other services.
12-step icon12-Step
12 step programs invoke spiritual principles to promote participants' psychological and emotional growth and healing, though religious affiliation is not required. Their primary treatment modalities include intensive peer support and recovery-focused life skills training based on the 12 steps of recovery. Participants regularly engage in peer-led group meetings, which are free, anonymous, and available throughout the day and night in most communities. Sponsors provide one-on-one mentoring as participants cultivate self-awareness, forgiveness, acceptance, and accountability.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
A drug intervention in Oklahoma can be an effective tool for a loved one who's struggling with alcohol and drug addiction. Intervention services include trained interventionists to help families plan and carry out an intervention with their loved one. It is often helpful to involve a non-partial expert in this highly emotional process. The interventionist provides expert insight and can recommend the best course of treatment for the individual and family.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
A partial hospitalization program (PHP) is a short-term form of intensive rehab, usually for those with acute symptoms that are hard to manage but don’t require 24-hour care. PHPs have structured programming (i.e. individual and/or group therapy), and usually meet 3-5 days a week for around 6 hours (i.e. 9am-3m). Some PHPs are residential (patients sleep on site) and some are not, so patients sleep at home. PHPs can last from 1-6 months, and some offer transportation and meals.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
24-hour clinical care in Oklahoma is highly recommended for those beginning recovery. As your body detoxes, withdrawal from substances such as alcohol, benzos, and opiates can cause severe physical symptoms. Health risks include seizures, hallucinations, heart palpitations, and severe dehydration. A clinical setting offers 24/7 medical care to treat these symptoms and make the detox process more comfortable.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
The safest way to remove addictive substances from your body after you've become physically dependent is through a medically assisted detox. Usually performed in an inpatient setting, a team of licensed medical professionals are tasked with monitoring your health and helping to minimize the risks and physical discomfort caused by withdrawal symptoms. Medically assisted detox is often the first step in the recovery process. After your body is safely free of substances, you'll likely transition to an inpatient treatment program to continue your recovery.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

To address the issues of addiction, each drug rehab in Oklahoma is tailored to meet the individual's needs. Treatment may occur in a residential or outpatient setting, and may last from a few days to several months.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Couples therapy often focuses on a specific problem, such as addiction, intimacy, jealousy, or finances. Treatment is solution focused and change oriented. The couple works with the therapist to identify goals for therapy and actively participates in learning skills and behaviors to reach those goals.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Without proper life skills, it is difficult to build a path to a better future. Life skills training gives you the tools you need to gain control of daily life and face challenges head on. This makes life skills training a crucial part of recovery programs in Oklahoma.

Just finished my third trip to oakwood and I think for my own mental wellbeing I should never go back there. I attempted to refuse medication as I ve had very bad experiences with it in the past and my concerns were dismissed apart from nursing staff who were genuinely trying to help me, but could only do so much. I was on my fourth mood stabilizer I ve tried, and I attempted to express my many failed attempts, but the doctor (who was only there for 3 out of my 8 days) wouldn t let me get words in and was pushing me out fast. It got me high. I went to my job the moment I got out and my boss told me that had I been on the clock I would ve been fired. Essentially the meds just messed with me way too much because of failed attempts in the past, which I figured out on my own (down to the science.) The doctor didn t give me time to speak really or express my concerns and had we had the ability to actually communicate maybe we could ve figured out that that was not the best thing to do as I expressed. I put myself in here. I came there to seek help, and work through my issues in a safe space. I did work through my issues out of my own skills mainly but I did not feel safe, and that comes down to the oakwood system just trying to medicate us and push us out. You can tell so many staff members are trying but at its core, oakwood lacks compassion, and thus the ability to take care of their patients. I recommend Spencer integris, as behind as they are in their facility, it s made up for by how much every single staff member, even the doctors, want to listen. I hope I m never in crisis like this again, but oakwood will not be where I end up.

I'm writing this review in the hopes that it helps not only my own recovery but helps Oakwood Springs become a better facility. This place traumatised me and left me so stressed that it took days for me to finally decompress. Even now, I still struggle to say the name Oakwood Springs out loud.I voluntarily checked in with severe body dysmorphic disorder and malnutrition, and - ignoring the long assessment time - was put in the detox unit, despite coming in with mental health issues. In retrospect, I'm glad they did because, later on, I learned that it would have been an even worse experience there than in detox. I was at Oakwood Springs for a total of seven days (and I can't help but give a sarcastic shout-out to Dr Motiwala for not allowing me to leave a day early when I was so anxious from the environment that I was about to lose it).Firstly, I don't want everything here to be negative, so I do want to say that nurse Paula is a saint for helping me through my panic attack that first day, and Mongo is an angel in disguise. Apart from some of the PCAs, they were the only staff members at Oakwood Springs who truly seemed to care about my well-being.To keep the rest of this as short as humanly possible, I'll be listing just a few of the observations I made and the events that occurred during my stay (names omitted).- Many of the nurses did not appear to take their job seriously. Without going into too much detail, two patients didn't receive timely hospital care. In one of these cases, the patient nearly became septic. At one point, one nurse in particular cursed this particular patient out despite her serious medical concerns. I also noticed that important medication (such as medicine for seizures and insulin) was often administered late or incorrectly.- HIPAA doesn't appear to exist here.- I was given an antihistamine even after I had listed multiple places and verbally stated that I cannot take them due to restless leg syndrome. Due to this, I didn't sleep for days and nothing was ever done to assist me and no apology was ever given.- I came in quite unwell from starving myself and from what turned out to be a vitamin D deficiency. I couldn't eat most food from the cafeteria and I couldn't eat a lot at once, and their only solution to this was for me to drink Ensure. I was told I would get to speak to a nutritionist because my stomach had become so sensitive from under-eating. I never did. One day I ate pizza crust as a meal. I barely ate the entire time I was there.- There was hardly any group or one-on-one therapy whatsoever. I believe over seventy-five percent of the planned activities never occurred as well. I received almost all of my 'therapy' from the other patients.- The 'rules' change constantly. It's also quite hypocritical to allow more alcohol in the products you provide for us but not allow a lesser amount of it in the conditioner I go out of the way to have delivered (new and unopened).- Not much is done to control unruly patients, and Code Blues are blasted throughout the entire building's intercom system. Just so that, in case you're not already under enough stress, you want to hear about the patient possibly dying in another unit. I know there are some things that are uncontrollable (like someone fainting in the lunchroom), but I can't count the number of times my adrenaline spiked to the point I was nearly hyperventilating.- It took days for some patients to even see a doctor or have their blood drawn.- The air conditioner in my room was not functioning, and even after asking several times and constantly being reassured that they would have someone come look at it, it was never addressed.- Frankly, overall, it feels like you're a prisoner.Edit (1/5/2025): I see this place has not changed in the slightest. I'm here adding onto this review several years later, because even today, I have legitimate PTSD from Oakwood Springs.I wish I had done more to have this facility investigated or shut down before I left the state of Oklahoma.*Please* do not send your loved ones here.

When I called up there , they stated they do diagnosis for multiple mental health disorders, and prescribe medications. My friend who was in there said they're not going to diagnose her for things like autism and adhd. They give depression medication to see if you go manic so they can label you as bipolar. Which everyone gets first labeled as until you go to an actual psychologist. Where they give you real diagnoses and guess what you were never bipolar. There so many overlapping symptoms between ocd , adhd ,autism ,bpd , depression , anxiety ,and bipolar. If you guys aren't going to do thorough assessments to actually help people. Then don't claim that you do on the phone and at the assessment. Then to prescribe medication they clearly stated does not work for them and they've been on it before. Whats the point of going here to get the same treatment that does not work ? You give false hope to someone who already has none. When they get out they will be worse off and not even want to try anymore. Mental health in Oklahoma is a joke.

DO NOT go here if you actually want help with your mental health. Would leave 0 stars if I could. They trap you inside and don't let you leave while your bills add up. I voiced on day 1 that I wanted to develop a safety plan and exit. I was told I could speak to the counselor about this, however, one did not come to see me until well after my first 24hrs there despite me seeking out a meeting. I had supportive people on the outside vouching for me, and they held me against my will making me see specialists that I'm still getting bills for even though I told all of them I wanted to develop a safety plan and leave. I did not desire the additional medical appointments that I'm being billed for still (not included in $ they charge btw- hidden information) which solely consisted of me telling them I wanted to leave/ no actual medical help. It's freezing everywhere. They severely restrict outside time along with connection/communication to loved ones. There is nothing mentally stimulating besides tv, beige walls, and some crosswords. You will not sleep well as it's interrupted constantly. We never got to go to the gym because they didn't have the staff to facilitate it. The food was awful- the same black bean patty over and over as the vegetarian option. I ate meat as a vegetarian due to not being able to stomach that patty again. Basically, you will feel like you're in prison. The vibes are really low. Classes, if they happen (as many of them did not), are random topics not necessarily beneficial to individuals. Basically, I paid a ton of money for 1 psychiatrist appointment for a medication that I now know isn't recommended for me, and I no longer take. What a waste of time and money. Highly disappointed I ever went here in the first place. Essentially the opposite of what builds good mental health.

I just got discharged today and I have got to say KUDDOS(!!!) To Robert, Craig, and TJ (the gentleman that escorted me at discharge). Professionals with a smile on their face! They went above a beyond. Thank you so much. The nurses were good. The bummer was Ronnie. That guy leaves much to be desired at his job. He doesn't do well with people. That's putting it very lightly. Overall I would have rated 4 stars if not for Ronnie.
