About Oaklawn

Oaklawn in Goshen, Indiana, is an organization with services for those dealing with mental health issues and drug addiction. They offer an environment that supports integration for both mental health and chemical dependency recovery for adults and adolescents. They offer a range of services from outpatient therapy to intensive outpatient programs (IOP) as well as inpatient treatment for the most severe cases. They accept Medicaid, Medicare and private insurance. They also offer sliding scale payments to ensure that the cost never hinders anyone from getting treatment.

Oaklawn shines in their trauma trained awareness of mental health and addiction. This is significant because their trauma informed care allows you to work on what feeds your issues so you can ultimately achieve long term healing. Because Oaklawn specializes in co-occurring disorders, they can manage substance use and any mental health issues simultaneously. You can guarantee that you’re not just addressing one symptom but the root of the problem. They offer therapy and medication management along with varying degrees of extra care such as trauma informed care and dual diagnosis disorder support.

Oaklawn has proven to be a model of community involvement. A few reviewers mentioned how the staff checked in on them regularly and seemed to sincerely care about their treatment process.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

12-step icon12-Step

12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).

24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

sober-living iconSober Living Homes

Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.

Access to Recovery

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

For long-term recovery from drug addiction, drug rehab in Indiana is often key. This treatment gives individuals who are struggling with a substance use disorder the tools to manage their disorder and achieve long-term sobriety.

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

mental-health iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Hand holding medical sign icon Clinical Services

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

couples-therapy iconCouples Therapy

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

dialectical iconDialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

eye-movement iconEye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

EMDR is a therapeutic modality originally developed to help process trauma. In an EMDR session, a patient is prompted to undergo eye movements that mimic those of REM sleep. This is accomplished by watching a therapist's finger move back and forth across, or following a bar of light. The goal is repetitive sets of eye movements that help the brain reprocess memory, which can significantly reduce the intensity of remembered traumatic incidents. Associated memories can heal simultaneously, leaving patients significantly calmer, more stable, and more emotionally relaxed.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

life-skills iconLife Skills

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

desert iconMotivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

nicotine iconNicotine Replacement Therapy

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

The program they work with is really well designed and it's meant to help you develop coping skills, but it's tough to get a good therapist to work with you. On top of that, they have a very long waiting list, so it's nearly impossible to get the appropriate treatment.

Dr. Kramer and his office are awesome. Jon-Eric was THE best therapist. I was never in patient here, but I heard that they have real mattresses instead of the usual yoga mats. Great facility.

I am worried about going here for a court ordered classes as I was told by the court that they do not submit the paperwork to the court as required. People have gone to jail as a results.

Someone very close to my mother and I, is attending this facility right now. We are not sure how he is being treated. However, my mother spoke with a nurse this morning that was TERRIBLY rude. Yes, my mother called three times throughout the night to the morning, because her questions were not answered. She only wanted to know if she could bring him extra clothes. However, the nurse responded very rudely. Her name is Sandy, not sure of the last name because they did not provide it to my mother. If you get her as your nurse or someone you love has her as their nurse, i recommend they ask to have a different nurse. Not sure how she is treating him. Maybe she had a bad day, but that s no reason to act so impolite when my mother needed answers. Hopefully Sandy doesn t have a job there for much longer! Go work in a jail/prison if you decide to be so hostile towards outsiders! I wouldn t recommend this nurse OR facility. They are already letting out someone who is known to be suicidal and just tried to commit. Great help right? Good job oaklawn! This place is a joke and so is SANDY!!! Don t recommend and if i could leave 0 starts, i definitely would. OH BUT LET ME ADD ON ABOUT THE CONVERSATION WE JUST HAD WITH ONE OF THE TECHS NAMED RON. My mother needed to get ahold of the nurse, and he is the one who picked up, while he said he would forward a message to the nurse. They were talking & everything. However, my mother was not even finished speaking and he interrupted and said that Sorry but he has other things to do and to work on , even though she needed to say something. They are overmedicating at this facility as well. A patient should still not be lucid almost 3 days after arriving. Thanks for the help!!!!! I also have VIDEO PROOF of RON saying he s done talking to my mother, as well as him not knowing what to do, so tell me what u want me to do earlier . Very disrespectful and I am so dissatisfied. I was hoping someone i love was getting good treatment , but of course i was wrong. Places like these suck . They do not care about you at all!!! If someone you know gets sent to this facility, they should request to switch!! This is terrible treatment . Gross treatment and pathetic. Have a nice day.

They extorted me into getting treatment I did not sign up for nor pay for. They wouldn't give me my Bipolar/Depression medication unless I agreed to quit using marijuana. This was 1 week into "treatment". An employee actually told me privately "I would go someone where else, if I were you"

I have recently started working here, and I'm quite happy with my job. There are some people I work with that admittedly I try to avoid (there's always one of them, right?). Overall, a very friendly environment. I have seen many people that come here for counseling leave a better person. Remember; what YOU need in counseling is not always what others need. Your therapist not working for you? Request a new one. It helps to have an open mind on both sides!

I enjoyed my therapist and the staff that I worked with. The nurses were very quick and able to answer questions or help me with any needs. I changed medication because I already had been wanting a change. I was blessed to have A wonderful nurse who helped me through the change of meds and added on meds which made me very sick. I will say they treated me very well. However once I was released I was unable to keep my psych Dr. but he was available to help if needed and the new Dr. was very good. I will say that the Gary was great in helping me to not fall through the cracks so to speak. I do not enjoy therapy and I have only had 1 out of several therapists I can talk to. The rest of it was of no help to me. If you can afford a better place for therapy with someone you trust and feel comfortable around i would suggest doing it . If not keep trying to request someone new until you find a fit. For you. Over all good except that. Thats why I gave it a 3 star plus the room s are not up to date or very well kept for showering facilities.
