About Nystrom & Associates – Woodbury

Nystrom & Associates is a mental health and substance use treatment center with locations in several states, including a clinic in Woodbury, Minnesota. The Woodbury location offers adult day treatment programs, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), psychiatry and medication management. They also treat substance use in adolescents.

The facility accepts most major insurance plans. They also take Medicare and Medical Assistance (MA). If you’re unable to pay then they won’t deny you care. They offer a sliding scale fee schedule based on the size of your family and income.

The center is LGBTQIA+ friendly. They understand the unique mental health challenges that those in the LGBTQIA+ community face and are prepared to help with specialized programs.

There’s also an outpatient substance use disorder program for adolescents ages 12 to 18. The program has individual and group counseling, programs for families and care coordination. There’s also peer led support for alumni groups.

If you’re 18 or over then there is help available for mental health and substance use disorder through the intensive or regular outpatient programs. You’ll meet with counselors who are licensed alcohol and drug use counselors. You’ll get individual and group therapy, drug screening and family programs. You’ll also have an individualized plan and a care coordinator to help you navigate the process.

The counselors help you identify triggers that cause you to use substances as a coping mechanism. Once you’ve identified the triggers then you can work on healthier ways to cope with your emotions. In the adult substance use program, you’ll also learn about good nutrition, skills for managing your life and exercise.

The intensive outpatient program (IOP) includes group therapy three times a week for four hours each session. You’ll also have a one hour individual session for substance use counseling once a week. The program runs for about 10 weeks but is based on your progress.

The regular outpatient program has one four hour group therapy session once a week and a one-hour individual session once a week. This program also runs for about 10 weeks.

One former client noted that the staff is always professional. Another mentioned that this is her favorite location for getting help with her substance use disorder and mental health because the counselors are knowledgeable and resourceful.

There was only one receptionist and they had two other clients behind us. The therapist would not see my child due to us being 15 mins late staying he will need a longer time to do the assessment. Which he could have just break it into two appointments for us to finish the assessment. We have no control over a car accident on the highway that caused us to be late and it was raining. I even called them and I was on hold for so long that I left a voicemail stating I will be late. We live 30 mins away from Woodbury too and they expect us to reschedule for a later time or another day. I am upset because I did this appointment almost two months ago and I waited patiently to get my child to this appointment. Do better!

Excellent staff! in these days of staffing shortages -that means the world to me.Encouragement, advocating with me/ for me, sharing referrals that have worked for others in my (similar) situations, having a coffee together sitting outside, finding some hope in talking - about tough stuff like losing loved ones (or not so loveable ones), about plants on my balcony or a pet or memories of chickens as a kid, smiling or actually laughing when you remember opening you're apartment for your visit and watching your worker abruptly start walking backwards as they realized they've walked past your door!Priceless! My Nystrom worker is a godsend! - don't know where I'd be without her. Thanks JessAnd thanks to all the other staff over the years as well who kept me going Thank you from the bottom of my heart

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug addiction is defined as an inability to stop using drugs even though it causes negative consequences in your life. Drug rehab in Minnesota provides treatment for drug addiction in a variety of settings including inpatient treatment and outpatient treatment.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.

Clinical Services

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

My therapist and psychiatrist are both very invested in my mental health. I never have trouble scheduling an appointment when I need one, and the staff is very helpful. I will continue to come here for therapy and psychiatry.

The malpractice of numerous providers at Nystrom & Associates left me more psychologically damaged for the mistake of trying to work with them. We were lucky to get a second appointment with the same provider, we had to get intake fees waived every time I came because every appointment I was starting over with a new provider at no fault of my own. I was misdiagnosed, insulted and bullied by providers here. Some were cool and doing their best, but those who failed me caused serious harm from which I have not recovered.Nystrom & Associates has destroyed my trust in the healthcare system. If you are a provider and you turn off your listening ears when I tell you I'm not seeing another talk therapist (I've seen 15+ different therapists theyre not helping with executive dysfunction), but I am seeing a life coach, if I ask you about medication that has helped me in the past and instead of asking what the coach does for me you give me that humiliating "sorry we don't have a MAGIC PILL to fix all your problems" when you showed zero interest in the work I'm doing, don't take a pay check to not only invalidate how hard I'm trying to get it together without medication, but TEACH A STUDENT TO TREAT ME LIKE A JUNKIE, take that evil back to hell with you I wish I had the strength to report you when you did that to me but monsters prey on the feeble and sickly when we dont have the strength to fight back. Nystrom & Associates took my money to hurt and humiliate me prepandemic and I have never recovered.Oh, and by the way: there actually was a magic pill that fixed a lot of what I was going through; treating even an extreme vitamin D deficiency doesn't even take a prescription. You didn't have to invalidate all the work I'd been doing and reduce my desperation to drug-seeking. Now I'm afraid to take the prescriptions I need, specifically because of how I was treated at Nystrom & Associates. Shame on youSave yourself and go somewhere else if you're able

My experience has been great. The psychiatrist is very understanding about my issues and is giving her knowledge as my main problems. Beware there are a lot of questions about family history health issues and it's like putting a puzzle together. With her help I don't feel like I'm going crazy but do have problems. I recommend this business highly.
