About Northwood Health Systems

Northwood Health is invested in changing the lives of the community residents where they operate through quality and affordable behavioral health care. They offer mental health support, substance use treatment and help with co-occurring conditions. They’ve multiple facilities serving residents of Hancock, Ohio, Marshall and Wetzel counties in West Virginia. This 19th Street Wheeling location is their administrative office from which you can connect to their various services.

It is situated near the junction of US Route 40 and I70. This makes it easy for folks coming from different areas to access. This includes those from the nearby Pittsburgh region about 50 miles away. It might be a great idea to explore some of the natural spots in Wheeling if you’re coming for the first time. The Wheeling Heritage Trail and the Oglebay Park are just nearby. That’s if you’re the nature and outdoorsy type. The Wheeling Suspension Bridge is also worth checking out.

When you visit this facility you’ll explain your behavioral issues to the staff on the ground. They’ll then connect you to their location where you can seek support for your unique condition. This may include medically supervised detox, intensive outpatient therapy and medication assisted treatment (MAT).

At Northwood, detox occurs in a specialized crisis stabilization unit. You’ll reside in this unit 24 hours daily as psychiatrists monitor your vitals. You’ll receive intensive individual and group therapy and even medication if necessary. This ensures your detox is safe and comfy. You’ll have 24 hour access to nursing staff as well.

Most folks continue their recovery journey by stepping down to the intensive outpatient program. This relatively high intensity program involves several hours of weekly group and individual therapy sessions. The sessions focus on helping you build practical coping skills that encourage a sober lifestyle and relapse prevention.

The beauty of it is that you’ll reside at home while receiving treatment. This program is also suitable for folks with moderate to severe symptoms or those who haven’t had success with less frequent or standard outpatient therapy. It offers more structure and therapeutic support than standard outpatient therapy.

They’ll connect you to their facility that offers MAT if you’re dealing with opioid addiction or alcoholism. MAT uses meds approved by the FDA alongside counseling to support “whole person” healing. Northwood clinics prescribe Suboxone and Naltrexone to help you manage withdrawal symptoms. They back this up with counseling to address the psychological aspect of opioid use. This ensures complete recovery.

Another great service you can access from their various clinics is DUI safety and treatment programs. This one is available in their location in Wheeling and is accessible through telehealth. This program helps you meet state requirements to regain your license and offers valuable insights into issues related to drinking and driving. Their DUI classes are fully approved by the state of West Virginia.

Other services you can access in their various locations include psychiatric and psychological evaluations, crisis intervention and case management. The latter may involve connection to community resources like housing support, job placement and medical care. This can help your lasting recovery efforts. Northwood accepts West Virginia Medicaid, traditional Medicare and Medicare Advantage plans.

They also accept Highmark Blue Cross & Blue Shield of West Virginia. You may be eligible for financial assistance as well. They even offer transportation support for established clients to and from outpatient appointments. These combined to make their treatment accessible and affordable.

If it wouldn't have been for part of the staff I would have had a hard time giving one star. Most of the people are hard working and the nicest of people who really care about their clients. They keep the place clean and make sure you are taken care of. The medical staff is basically a worthless group of people with the exception of a couple who actually do seem to care. I've had a cold or the flu for 2 days. The morning nurse gave me a couple Tylenol and a couple ibuprofen, which was the most I got for the rest of the day. The day nurse just laughed at me when I asked her for something that evening. The night nurse gave me 2 ibuprofen. The CRNP on the morning shift said she would take my temperature and get something to help me. Then she went to her office for 4 hours. When I finally got to see her she asked how I was feeling and proceeded to tell me she hoped I felt better. I was there a week in horrible pain and no sleep and I don't think I've ever seen medical professionals with less compassion and caring than the ones here. If you expect to get any medical help stay away. Otherwise it's a good facility and most of the people are the best. The rest are the worst.

Amazing and caring staff here! Very very on top of all medical needs & you actually physically see & talk to a Nurse Practitioner every single day you are there! As well as video appointments with a therapist weekly if not more! Very clean environment & living space! Smoke breaks hourly! Detox is rough but I see why they do it the way they do! Group meetings all day long, 8am-930pm every single day(some learning, some music, some games, some coloring or journaling, some patient picks, and some therapeutic)meal breaks(3-30 minute meals) & smoke breaks every 10 til the hour! Lots to drink, healthy snacks, you keep your cellphone on you at all times!! State provides meals, snacks, drinks, cigarettes(yes smokes), transportation, hygiene, medication, and even clothing or shoes if you have none!!! I met the most amazing & the most kind hearted people at this place! Thank you Northwoods and thank you STACEY for helping me get into Rehab as fast as you did! 5-7 people within 2-3 days she got placed! Thank you everyone for your kindness while I was in such an emotional and fragile state I was in & being new to that type of assistance! Prayers I never have to come again but will choose your facility if I have to 1,000 times over!!!

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Clients in addiction recovery often transition from inpatient rehab to intensive outpatient programs (IOP) to promote their successful reintegration into their home, workplace, and community. These programs provide high-level support for clients in early recovery and those at an increased relapse risk, offering between nine and 20 hours of treatment per week on average. Intensive outpatient treatment typically involves a range of therapeutic approaches, including psychotherapy, recovery education, holistic treatments, such as acupuncture, and medication assisted treatment (MAT) for alcohol and/or opioid dependency.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
When you enter 24-hour clinical care in West Virginia, you gain access to a comprehensive team of professionals who are on-call to help you in your recovery. Nurses and doctors can help you through detox by managing withdrawal using medication and other clinical treatment. For psychological withdrawal and other mental health concerns, counselors are available. This on-site care is designed to meet all physical, mental, and emotional needs.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
If you have become physically dependent on drugs or alcohol, quitting abruptly can cause withdrawal symptoms like anxiety, headaches, flu-like symptoms, and more. In severe cases, these withdrawal symptoms can even be dangerous. In medically assisted detox, a team of licensed professionals will monitor your vitals, provide medication if needed, and help keep you as safe and comfortable as possible during this process.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

People in West Virginia seeking drug and alcohol addiction treatment usually undergo one on one individual therapy. This gives you a safe and supportive environment to explore issues with substance use and any co occurring mental health conditions. Your therapist offers individualized support to help you build resilience and work toward achieving long term sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Don t believe half any of the bad review you read about this place people go here because they either want help or there forced to get help and just because there isn t any instant gratification people wanna talk bad about this place when it comes to recovery work you only get out of it what you put into it and the people that are talking bad about this place are probably the ones that received the help that they needed and not the help that they wanted!!! Hurt people hurt people. This is a great facility with great people recovery isn t easy but don t try to hurt an establishment that is only trying to help the people that need it!!!

I spoke with a lady named Tiffany today and she was so rude. I know people are busy but when dealing with people with mental health issues they should screen their employees and make sure the staff that they have are caring individuals and not ones that sound angry and tired of doing their jobs.Truly,Candy Fahey
