It's hard to believe people who are supposed to help you can be so cold. I had a case manager, Kirstin, for two years who had always been very helpful. Then she turned on me at a crucial point of my progress, got me terminated from the CSP, destroying my hopes for finally overcoming a huge barrier that crippled me from trying to get back to doing what I have loved for decades. It takes a heart of stone to do what she did to me. No empathy or respect. Just abandonment. The worst part is that I was blamed and punished for having bad anxiety attacks over the problem, and lost my services at a crucial time. Even though much of what I was accused of doing was a pack of lies fabricated by my case manager's supervisor, and I brought it to upper management's attention, they refuse to relinquish my being banned from their services, which has done nothing but hurt me. They believe what I said, and the one who fabricated the lies has since left Ben Gordon, yet they just don't want to take responsibility for having wronged me. Patient Relations has been useless. They told me that since the managers made the decision to abandon me, there was nothing they could do. I wasn't even given an opportunity to advocate for myself before they made the decision to kick me to the curb. I deserved at least that much, as well as an explanation of why my case manager turned on me in the first place. It's shameful of them to treat suffering people in such a way. I had been a client for years, and because medications my providers prescribed me caused severe anxiety they felt the best thing to do was get rid of me? Where are their scruples?

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Per session payment lets you pay for each treatment at the time of service. You may also pay for a certain number of sessions up front and then pay for more if needed. This format allows you to tailor the financial investment to your specific needs and avoid having a large lump sum payment due at the end of the treatment program.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Illinois is designed to help people recover from addiction to a number of substances. The length of each program and its intensity tend to vary, and the plan of care is based on your individual needs.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
hearing-impaired-program thumbnail image
Hearing Impaired Program
A sensory disability, such as hearing impairment, can compound the challenges of addiction recovery. Drug rehabs that are specially designed to accommodate the needs of persons with hearing impairments will include special accessibility features and accommodations to make treatment as comfortable and effective as possible. This may include access to American Sign Language interpreters.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

I had to call off work due to my sister mental health issue. I called in for an appointment to speak with her doctor about the issues she had been experiencing. The doctor actually changed her medication but refused to write a doctor statement for my work. She stated she could not confirm that my sister had an medical issue that needed my attention. I could not understand why did she increase her medication if she could not confirm or think it was an issue. It seems that the staff are pushing to get my sister under some type of "Case Management" service that the office have, and are medically forcing people to participate in, because it is not mandatory. This "Case Management" cause for a certain insurance and we do not carry that insurance. What if I do not want the service ...let me guess the staff refuses to properly give patients proper documentation for issues that occur but then uses the same information that they can not "confirm" to make decisions to increase patients medications!!! I will immediately be looking for another doctor! I felt like I was discriminated against!!!

I had one good therapy who was experienced, but unfortunately she left to live closer to her daughter. After that every therapist seemed to be fresh out of college with no real experience. One was to rigid for the job. So I don't think they have enough people with the experience that people need who are in need of a good therapist.

Displays actively discriminate against people with learning disabilities and mental illness. Unfortunate that it s supposed to serve individuals who struggle with us. Their attendance policy does not account for people who have time blindness memory loss and struggle with organization and keeping a schedule. Despite having a case worker it has been impossible to get anywhere with this center. If they stop you from getting the help what s the point by taking people who need it most out of your programs who struggle with the ability to be consistent due to their mental health issues. You would think that they would actually help you but they don t they make it worse and then then. They decided after my father is passing away to drop me from their time in a time of crisis. This place needs to get shut down and everyone in their needs their degrees and licenses stripped from them and fired from Northwestern medical. Shame on on This staff for participating in active Discrimination against actual disabled people

I was a pt at BGC for a few years. I had never been inpatient (diagnosed since 2009) until they took over my care. I ended up inpatient twice while under their care. In my experience I feel like my psychiatrist does not do her due diligence before meeting, diagnosing and medicating patients. In my experience she had been hot headed, badgering and lazy in her approach to my care.I hope this helps anyone seeking services from Ben Gordon Center. I will say that the people in the Living Room are amazing, but the rest of Ben Gordon Center needs to do better!!

I've tried scheduling an appointment to see my files, CSP never called me back. I told them that I was going to see if I could sue CSP, for not allowing me to see my files. About a month or so ago when this all happened, they sent me a bill, trying to get double payments from me, my insurance was paying them, and then I got a bill from CSP for their services, I told some of the staff members that I was going to sue CSP for trying to get a second payment from me, when my insurance was paying them. The staff members from CSP had told their boss about what I said of suing CSP, the next day the payment was dropped. WHEN I WAS HALF BLIND THEY MADE IT VERY HARD FOR ME TO GET INTO CSP AND DID NOT WANT ME BACK BECAUSE I WAS GOING TO SUE THEM FOR DOUBLE PAYMENT.

Stopped my services completely because I know what s better for me then a team of people who have never talked to me! Refused to even put me on the waiting list for a therapist I know it must be hard to fathom that a client might actually know what will work and what won t work maybe just maybe start listening to your clients needs over your ego!

Absolutely horrible treatment from top to bottom. Abusive, unhelpful psychiatry department. Their "counseling" consists of someone patronizing you for an hour with no clear guidance or goals with treatment plans. They tell you one thing and write something completely different down in your chart. They mostly focus on troubled teens since they tend to be well insured, if that gives you any indication of where their priorities are at.Stay away at all costs. Seek other places in the area. They are poorly reviewed on here for several reasons. Ben Gordon is a bad joke and your mental health is the punchline.
