About Northeastern Center

Northeastern Center provides intensive outpatient services for adults struggling with alcohol and drug addiction. The program serves residents of Angola in Steuben County, Indiana. This program provides a similar professional level of treatment as inpatient care without requiring you to give up your job or leave home.

Treatment is provided in a supportive environment where you can learn about the disease of addiction, the value of a sober support system and potential relapse triggers. Priority treatment is given to IV drug users, pregnant women and mothers with minor children.

The program starts with a comprehensive assessment and individual treatment planning to ensure treatment is tailored to your needs. The recovery approach involves two phases. The first phase focuses on the main issues of chemical dependency or addictive behavior and how to manage them to achieve lasting recovery. This may involve ongoing assessment, individual counseling and group therapy with emphasis on life skill building and relapse prevention.

The second phase equips you with advanced relapse prevention skills and resources. Ideally, this phase will involve participation in self-help groups, personalized relapse prevention plans and the development of solid coping skills, including stress and anger management. You’ll also receive education on addiction and managing triggers.

Employer and family involvement is emphasized in both phases. Services also include medication evaluation/monitoring, drug screening and case management. Their onsite case manager case provides care coordination and can connect you to community resources that support your recovery.

This may include essential services like housing, employment and educational programs. Day and evening group sessions are available for convenience. Transportation is provided for the evening sessions. Comments from clients reflect mixed experiences.

disrespectful/rude & unprofessional staff. they would call me numerous times to change my appointment dates, I'd come in on the new rescheduled date only to be told that there was no appointment for me that day & acted like as if the phone call never happened. the psychiatrist had a very bad attitude that would interrupt me when I spoke of my concerns, disregarded my concerns, & spoke in a disrespectful manner to me. the front desk staff also had a disrespectful manner. so far the only nice staff I've interacted with is the therapist. they diagnosed me with major depression & anxiety so I feel as if they should understand how the way they speak to someone with this diagnosis mentally hurts & scares off the client from wanting to come back. they have not made me feel safe or comfortable, rather I feel like it's been nothing but money milking & pill pushing. I'd only recommend for the therapy, nothing else.

Very rude and unprofessional. They will not return your calls and it's impossible to get clinical records for your personal record keeping. But they are quick to send you the bill and get you out the door with a pocket full of prescriptions. They are simply their to make money.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Per session payment lets you pay for each treatment at the time of service. You may also pay for a certain number of sessions up front and then pay for more if needed. This format allows you to tailor the financial investment to your specific needs and avoid having a large lump sum payment due at the end of the treatment program.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Clients receiving support in a rehab aftercare program have completed inpatient care and may also be preparing to exit formal outpatient care. Outpatient services are typically categorized as rehab aftercare, but these services often continue beyond the cessation of formal treatment. Rehab aftercare services are designed to promote life-long recovery through comprehensive, wraparound care, which may include medical, mental health, and social services. These programs are usually created in collaboration with the client's case manager and care team.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Individual dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) takes place in weekly, 60 minute sessions. You'll have homework to do, such as keeping a diary to track your emotions and actions. You'll also attend group sessions, which are intended to be skills practicing sessions. DBT in Indiana typically lasts six months to a year.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational interviewing aims to stimulate the client's personal motivation and commitment to change. Rather than receive advice and warnings from the therapist, the client is given the opportunity to share their concerns and reach their own conclusions.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life skills include cognitive skills, interpersonal skills, and personal skills that help you manage daily living. Cultivating these skills during rehab in Indiana is an important part of recovery. With these skills, you'll be able to navigate challenges and prevent relapse.

Recreational therapy integrates structured activities into a holistic treatment program to help promote your physical and mental health and well being. You might engage in sports, creative arts, or outdoor adventures as a positive outlet for your stress and emotions. This helps you develop new interests and build a supportive network that helps you maintain long term sobriety.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

I am so grateful for their commitment, counselors keep their appointments until the end and don't cancel at the last minute, something really common in other places! They adequated my treatment to my financial situation since the beginning.

This is a little harsh and I m sorry. I am writing this with respect and concern. But, I used to think this place was great. In the beginning, nearly 2-3 years ago. I struggled so long to find mental health care due to lack of insurance. This place was a miracle at first. I could see a light at the end of the tunnel, knowing I d have a team to work with to achieve my goals and heal. The team being: Psychiatrist (prescriber), psychologist (therapist) and case manager. It was a great idea. It didn t last. It really started when my first therapist, the first one to ever help me in 20 years and understand me, left. She didn t say it explicitly, but it was heavily implied that it was due to how the place is being ran. Then my case worker quit. One days notice on that. I don t even know who my new one is because communication is not a strong point with this place. It s been over a year. I have never met my new case manager. Not once.I seriously never leave negative reviews, not on anything. I don t like to be difficult or complain, or exaggerate, But 90% of the staff I knew in the beginning are now gone with little to no warning. And again, I don t want to cause a problem or be disrespectful but the new front desk people take a tone that makes it kinda really really difficult to get any info. It s different people every time I go in. You feel like you re in trouble or something for calling. That you re legitimately inconveniencing them. I have stopped calling because of this. It s easier to just deal with my stuff compared to working out this mess at this point, and it s actually a great source of stress and panic for me.. They re more harm than help at this point, and I d love for that to change. You can tell they either don t want to be there or they just don t care. Which I never want to think about someone. But it hurt. I felt like I should be apologizing for my basic question. The complete lack of stable staffing has made it all the more easy to just withdraw. I mean this respectfully, but I no longer feel supported by my team. Why should I be? They ll be gone in 3-6 months. For every time I no called, no showed (I m not defending that, it was wrong of me to do) there was no record of my scheduled appointment anywhere. In 15 months, I walked an hour to get there just to be told I don t have an appt, despite me clearly holding the appt card in my hand. At least 9 times, y all. Not 1, not 2, NINE. Half of these were psychiatrist appointments. I have gone without refills or medication a few times, simply because the appt time they gave me just magically disappeared. I have been hospitalized due to this, TWICE. Some meds aren t safe to cold turkey quit, like mine. Even one missed day can have steep consequences.I hate saying this cause some of the staff is wonderful, but this has been a nightmare and I feel worse off. There is zero trust now. I feel 100% alone in this. There is no support coming. Just excuses and miscommunication/misinformation. I m trying to remain objective about it, but they just don t care. So why should I?

I feel the Northeastern center in Angola, Indiana is not interested in helping patients, they just want people to come there over and over. I was a patient for over 6 month, and all unheard was try this, let's add this. Nothing worked for me. In the 6+ month Dr Lauren only meant me face to face one time. The rest was over zoom( computer).Jeff Cleveland

Generally the mental health staff are fine. The administration and the front desk rarely know what s going on and have attempted to drop me as a patient multiple times without giving me reason or being able to tell me how to fix it.

I would exhaust all other options especially if you have crisis happening. Even if you have to drive far. The director also is very insensitive and unapologetic for any failures that happen on their part. The most unprofessional care I've experienced for my child.
