About North Hudson Community Action Corporation – West New York

North Hudson Community Action Corporation – West New York is a health service provider based in West New York, New Jersey. Along with behavioral health and addiction treatment services, they also offer adult medicine, dental and pediatrics services, women’s health services, and specialty care services like endocrinology and podiatry. The staff is multilingual, so you can be treated in whatever language you’re most comfortable with. The Joint Commission recognizes them as a Primary Care Medical Home, which means they prioritize integration between the different services they offer.

Their Mental Health and Addictive Services Department is staffed by a compassionate and knowledgeable team. Their psychiatrists are able to prescribe medication to help you manage co-occurring disorders or mental health concerns. Substance abuse counselors are trained in the intricacies of addiction, and they provide actionable guidance for maintaining sobriety long term. They also have a crisis worker and a domestic violence specialist for those facing addiction while in a challenging living situation.

Their combined expertise ensures your health is considered from every angle. They provide compressive psychiatric and physiological evaluations to determine the best course of treatment for your needs. Once you have a treatment plan, you’ll attend individual and group therapy sessions to learn more about the mental aspects of addiction and break through barriers to your recovery.

If necessary, you can also receive prenatal and domestic violence counseling. They also offer academic guidance and parenting skills training. Staff can also refer you to their other departments if you’re in need of housing or vocational assistance.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

Drug rehab in New Jersey is the process of addressing the complex issues involved with addiction. Challenges are identified and addressed through individual and group counseling. Participants learn how to manage these issues without the use of substances.

mental-health iconMental Health and Substance Abuse

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

opium iconOpioid Addiction

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

dialectical iconDialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

desert iconMotivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Just today I went to get the papers for school because last Wednesday I went to fill out the form and they told me they would call me and 9 days ago today and they didn't have it ready I had to go home after waiting 3 hours and they didn't give me response is so irresponsible and all because pediatricians don't feel like doing their job...

My experience is very bad, going to this center they make you feel that you are worthless, they do not respect your time, you go and they cancel your appointment that same day, today my appointment was at 8:30 at 9:00 am they passed me on where the nurse and then they sat me down to wait and they started celebrating a birthday and I watched that action for about an hour and no one cared.. if you come sick you die because no one cares about you..

100+ people in line outside, blocking the entry door. Be ready to waste 2+ hours minimum, if not a whole day. Supervisor Gaetana Venezia says every time: they can do nothing to respect the appointment times, they assigned themselves to people s visits. However, she managed to put up a portrait of herself above the security guard at the entrance. They don t warn about delays or backups - not an option. Make you fill out some internal made-up processing forms and lists by hand, write your name down 10 times over - is considered a norm for them. So they pass a big scope of nonsense work they create for themselves - on their patients.

I had an appointment at 2:30 pm, it's 4:10 pm and they still haven't attended to me. It's a complete mess. The people who arrived after me were already attended to, having their appointments later than mine. The attention was a disaster. All this happened in Dentistry.
