I came into the intensive outpatient program after being referred from an inpatient I attended in Georgia when I was 17 years old. I did 13 weeks of IOP and then stayed in their support group for 1 1/2 years. This program taught me how to be sober and live a sober lifestyle in a way that I could understand and relate to. I had been to 4 other treatment centers when I ended up here. I connected with this place the most because all of staff are in recovery and had gone through the program themselves. They were immediate examples that recovery was possible for me, and I knew they understood what I was going through because they had gone through it themselves. The meetings and functions gave me things to do in the evenings other than using substances and people my age who were sober to socialize with. This program gave me the environment and tools I needed to learn how be sober and take ownership over my life. I have 3 years sober next month and have fully transitioned into AA, but I will forever be grateful for my experience here and what I learned.
