About Nexus-Mille Lacs Family Healing

Nexus - Mille Lacs Academy is a treatment center that helps families and children who are dealing with mental health issues. They’ll offer you treatment in the form of a residential program, which caters to youth. They have centers across the US but this one is in Onamia, Minnesota. They focus on creating programs for youth between ages 10 and 18.

The Mille Lacs location specializes in sexual problematic behaviors. With this program they will work with your child with an individualized treatment plan to help combat this issue. They take an empathetic approach that is trauma informed when going over the challenges that your child faces. This will be done through assessments and psychiatric evaluations to treat your child and help them combat their negative thoughts. Experiential therapy will be used as the treatment method. This means that they’ll use animal interactions and play therapy to help treat your child.

Aside from treatment, this facility has a supportive transition system to help your child move from the recovery setting to everyday life for a gradual move back home. People have mentioned that this place was not ideal at first, but after a while they said that this place helped them a lot.

It was terrible. Made my son lie and hurt his sisters feelings and was very judgmental towards others. Really need more training in many other ways. Made my son believe that his family didn't love him. It was all lies. Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
A drug intervention in Minnesota is a planned effort to persuade an individual to quit using drugs or to enter a treatment program. The intervention may be led by a specialist provided by rehab intervention services. This interventionist should have training in addiction treatment and experience in the mental health profession. Their expertise can prove invaluable in leading the intervention discussion and guiding the family in appropriate next steps.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
When individuals first enter rehab, they may be malnourished due to substance use. They may also suffer from illness, organ damage, or other medical issues. 24-hour clinical care in Minnesota provides on-call staff who can monitor these conditions and provide appropriate treatment 24/7. This setting helps individuals who need substance use disorder treatment get the physical as well as psychological support they need.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

eye-movement iconEye Movement Desensitization And Reprocessing

Families in Minnesota use family therapy to understand the roles they play in addiction. Each member plays a role and contributes to a pattern of behavior. Families learn to interact in healthier ways that support each other and contribute to their loved one's journey to recovery.

This place was actually really good when I had first got there I was there for almost up to 2 years and the first 5 months it was great but then I went downhill so fast it was even funny the staff qualifications were trash it seemed like they had just hired anyone and all the activities had just stopped so it wasn t as fun and productive as it was and the therapy there was not good at all I m talkin horrible there was kids that would cut themselves and the therapist would say they do not care and to basically keep doing it. I am not going to lie there was a lot of riots I m not going to lie I was part of them but they had made it so easy and they would let us do it and the staff would sit back and watch. I remember when a youth had cut himself so deep he was basically bleeding out and I had to patch him up with a fish hook and a piece of fishing line cuz they did not want them to go to the hospital cuz they didn t have transportation . I would not recommend sending your kid here at all.

This place use to be so productive. In 2000, 2001, 2002. It was separated into 4 programs each with its own age limits. I remember program 3 use to be a ship theme. Each program had its own theme. Violence was forbidden and punished harshly, sometimes involving police. There were camping trips and ice fishing trips on mille lacs lake every year. Canoeing, Lots of trips to different places. Cursing was punished. We never had a pool or rock climbing wall, and the wood piles were enough to keep most residents inline.
