About New Oakland Family Centers

New Oakland Family Centers provides mental health care services for children, adolescents, and adults across Michigan, including a location in Clinton Township. They operate a 24/7 hotline that clients can call to access their programs, which include crisis stabilization services and different levels of outpatient care. They accept self pay and private insurance.

Their crisis services are designed to be an alternative to inpatient treatment. To qualify, clients must be diagnosed with a mental illness, which may include a co-occurring condition like drug or alcohol addiction. In the program, they’ll participate in individual and family counseling, psychiatric support services, and other kinds of therapeutic programs to help them get back on track. From there, most clients enter into outpatient care.

Their most intensive type of outpatient treatment is their partial hospitalization program, called Face to Face. Clients in this program attend therapy for about six hours each day for around three to five days a week. The groups are divided by age so everyone can feel comfortable opening up and sharing their experiences. Clients usually attend these sessions as a group but they can also go on their own or with family members. Some of the other available services include medication management, psychiatric testing, and educational courses on relevant topics related to mental health and addiction.

New Oakland provides inadequate care for its patients, and when they inevitably struggle, they funnel them into their partial hospitalization program.

I was a patient there and I was always getting a new therapist and doctor and earlier this year I received the bill in the mail for services. I asked My therapist, the front desk and the billing department if they accept Aetna and they tell me yes and and I just called to give them the member number so they can bill them and they told me they never accepted Aetna. I'm not sure what is the truth but I do not recommend this place to anyone

This is the absolute worst office and staff I have ever had to deal with. My doctors office merged with these sick corporate greed individuals. I understand bills and laying them but this place is beyond ridiculous. For one, their office smells like a damn urinal! I feel bad for my doctor that moved with this merge. I can't imagine that this is any kind of fun for her. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient programs are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Traditional outpatient services are the least restrictive means of treatment and may include individual, group, family and medication management focused treatment. These outpatient services are based on the client’s needs and may involve weekly, bi-weekly and/or monthly scheduled sessions.
inpatient iconInpatient
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
The New Oakland FACE to FACE Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) focuses on children, adolescents and adults with emotional, behavioral, and/or chemical abuse problems. It is less intensive and restrictive than the FACE to FACE partial day program, taking place on three non-consecutive days per week and lasting three hours per visit. It is a modified, less restrictive component of the FACE to FACE partial day programs, still featuring group, individual and family therapies that effectively deal with crisis, depression and conflict through the acquisition of social, interpersonal, communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills. With the New Oakland IOP, an individual continues to live at home and remain engaged in his or her own life, continuing to go to work or school while developing the skills he or she needs with the help and support of the program.
heart-hands iconIntervention Services
During a drug intervention in Michigan, family, friends, and colleagues share in their own words how a person's substance abuse has affected their lives. An intervention must be carefully planned, with the goal of encouraging the individual to get treatment for their addiction. Many rehab programs offer intervention services to help families prepare for this confrontation and guide them through the recovery process.
partial-hospitalization iconPartial Hospitalization Program
While many people know it as "day treatment", a partial hospitalization program (PHP) offers treatment during the day and allows you to live at home. PHP treatment typically requires a commitment of at least 20 hours of treatment every week, with a program duration that spans approximately 90 days. While commuting is necessary, some programs offer telehealth options. PHP treatment plans usually include relapse prevention, medication management, and behavioral therapy.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
24-hour clinical care in Michigan is essential for certain phases of recovery treatment. During detox, many physical ailments related to the detox process can be lethal if not treated. Having medical staff available at all times provides the proper care for safe detox. Medications and other treatment can also make the process much more comfortable and bearable.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
During a medically supervised detox, addictive substances are removed from your body while under the 24/7 supervision of medical professionals in an inpatient environment. This is the safest way to wean your body off of addictive substances, since quitting alcohol or certain drugs (like opioids or benzodiazepines) can be dangerous if done on your own. The program typically lasts around 5-7 days, but is highly individualized depending on your needs.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Michigan provides personalized treatment to help individuals break this cycle and regain control of their lives. Treatment methods are used in various levels of care, including inpatient rehab, partial hospitalization programs, intensive outpatient programs, and standard outpatient treatment.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
hearing-impaired-program thumbnail image
Hearing Impaired Program
A sensory disability, such as hearing impairment, can compound the challenges of addiction recovery. Drug rehabs that are specially designed to accommodate the needs of persons with hearing impairments will include special accessibility features and accommodations to make treatment as comfortable and effective as possible. This may include access to American Sign Language interpreters.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Cognitive behavioral therapy in Michigan helps participants view challenges more clearly so they can respond to them in healthy ways. During a limited number of structured sessions, clients learn about and practice these changes to effectively address substance use and mental health disorders.

Addiction often involves intense situations and emotions. Dialectical behavior therapy helps you understand and regulate your emotions and better manage the situations that evoke those feelings. You'll receive mindfulness training and stress management training to cope more effectively with difficult emotions.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

During motivational interviewing, therapists express empathy, support self efficacy, and develop discrepancies. By using these techniques, therapists help clients reflect on their desires for change and understand why and how they should move forward with those changes.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

To maintain a healthy and productive life, you need certain life skills. They help you make good decisions and build good relationships. Because they are key to long term recovery, most rehab programs in Michigan include integrated life skills training.

Substance abuse negatively affects your nutrition. Some drugs affect your metabolism, while others affect how your body absorbs nutrients. Others suppress your appetite. To restore balance to your systems, nutrition therapy provides a healthy meal plan and training for how to eat the right foods to support addiction recovery.

Yeah I should have definitely went with the reviews. I always give people the benefit of the doubt. This is not a family place at all. Everyone is confused and they don't communicate well between Dr's and staff. They do not work with you on your schedule it's what they say or nothing. Telling me it's a busy time of the yr. I'm not worried about anyone but my kid. So if they didn't have enough time to help him don't take his case. Also you can't reschedule, they consider that a missed appointment and they make you wait till your next appointment. And you can't cancle if your kid is so depressed he won't get out of bed. Because then they will cancle your case and can't be seen anymore there. No understanding of depression or suicide thoughts. They seem to hire people with no education. One more thing.... pill pushers. Be aware.

The worst front desk people ever! Supervisor isn t any better either. I was called a week ago after my sons second appointment (the day after his therapist scheduled two appointments for my son) and said my sons therapist is no longer there, and we will be getting a call back to find a new therapist and schedule an appointment. So today I called after a week in a half of waiting and I was explaining my frustration to the person at the front desk and she hung up on me, I called back saying this is so and so s mom I was just hung up on and she hung up again. The supervisor called me later on today and I decided to find treatment for my son elsewhere since this whole facility is a JOKE!!!! I told her what happened with the front desk and she acted like it was no big deal! If you care about your child s mental health, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR YOUR CHILD!!!!!! Rude, unprofessional, Disrespectful staff! PLEASE READ ALL THE REVIEWS AND TAKE YOURSELF OR YOUR CHILD SOMEWHERE ELSE THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOUR CHILDREN!!!!!!

First experience with therapy as an adult. Mental health is hard, and I can admit I missed some appointments, and struggled to communicate in time. (That's anxiety for you, right?) After getting used to taking heavy medication over the last year, they have closed my case for no-show, and won't reopen it for 6 months. Meaning, now they're forcing me to cold-turkey stop the heavy meds, and what? See what happens? Please inflect my heaviest sarcasm as I say "they obviously care."

I was a patient there for 10 years. I received great help and medicine for my mental issues. My therapist was excellent and so was my psychiatrist. I would definitely recommend.

Awful, harmful place. Openly and blatantly violated the Americans With Disabilities Act, because I guess having an invisible disability where all my severe chronic pain is on the *inside,* which means that they can look at me and say, and I quote "I've been watching, and I haven't seen you use more than one (disability aid) today. You can be allowed one (disability aid), but that's it." Despite the fact that I did, indeed, use all of the ones I brought with me. What were they, you ask? I had 3 different, small size/shape pillows, because I physically can not sit in a couch or chair for six hours a day without proper support. I have severe fibromyalgia, I am in constant pain, no matter how "fine" I look on the outside. I was 3 days into outpatient partial hospitalization, and I had just been feeling that day that I felt like maybe it was helping, when at the end of the day they approached me about the issue. I explained, again, that I have an *invisible* disability, and that my pain shifts throughout the day, so I don't always use all pillows at once, nevermind the fact that I had indeed used all of them at once that day. They told me that if I couldn't comply with the one pillow rule, that I would no longer be able to continue treatment with them. They said "nobody else is allowed to have more than one, what would we say as to why you get special treatment?" I said, "Tell them that it's an accommodation for my disability?" Like, that's literally the definition of what an accommodation is??? I asked what they needed, a note from my physical therapist explaining the medical necessity? A letter from my doctor confirming my diagnosis?"No, no, unfortunately that won't change anything, it's just the policy that patients can't bring multiple pillows there's nothing we can do. You are allowed to have one though!" "Right, but you don't understand, I *will suffer literal injuries to my body* without proper support." "It's just the policy there's nothing we can do about the policy.""Ok, so what are your alternative solutions that you suggest?" Blank faces. Me: "you know, like what are you suggesting as alternative ways to make the seating accessible? Like, an ergonomic chair with lumbar support, or...?" "No, no, we unfortunately can't provide anything like that. So, will you be able to comply with the rules?"I'm just desperately throwing out solutions at this point, *begging* for them to understand that it's not a 'want', it's a 'need' for my physical safety. Like, one of their excuses for only 1 pillow rule not being able to be altered (which, again, THEY ARE LEGALLY OBLIGATED TO MAKE THEIR MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES DISABILITY ACCESSIBLE) was that actually, they had had problems with bedbugs in the past, so they had to stop letting people bring things! I was relieved to hear it, because there's easy solutions to it! I could use plastic pillow cases that zip shut, so you know that there's no transfer! (No, it's policy..) The facility could buy pillows to provide them! (No, it's policy..) There's pillows on the couches in the individual offices, if I can just borrow 3 of them, that'll work! (No, it's policy..) WHY. THERE IS NO RISK OF BEDBUGS, IF THE PILLOWS COME FROM INSIDE YOUR OWN FACILITY."Like, you do understand that this is denying me access to mental health care because of my physical disability, right??? Because my disability requires a minor accommodation?? Please, can you go back to the supervisor and make sure she understands that?" He went to check, comes back with "yes, she understands that, but there's nothing we can do, because of the policy. So, will you be able to comply with the policy, or should we prepare voluntary discharge papers...?"I said "it's not voluntary! But I can't *be* in a place *knowing* that I'll suffer injury here! Do you understand that this is literally discrimination? I'm not choosing to leave, you are making me!" "Ok, well, if that's your choice, we'll take care of it we'll have the voluntary discharge papers filled out and mailed to you "
