The orthopedic staff were the most warm and attentive of any I hospital in have interacted with as a patient or family of a patient. In particular the OR waiting room attendant went above and beyond to help us see my father and get updates on his status while in post-op after a procedure. The coordination of care during discharge planning was also very smooth and responsive to our needs. The only feedback would be coordinating the overnight scheduling to allow for more sleep during post-op recovery, but that seems challenging in any inpatient setting.

A day is usually goes like this you wake up at about 9, they take your vitals, you do you personal and treatment goals, and you start groups. One where you all come together and speak with the other patients. As well as doctors, residents, and you discuss how your feeling and see if you can move to level 2. You speak about your story and we all have to say if we think your ready to move to level 2. Your able to lead groups and give out snacks. You then go to the rest of your groups one where you work out eat breakfast, lunch, dinner, and two snacks. There s quiet time where you can go in your room and relax. You can go outside and play at the park occasionally. You go to sleep at 9 and do that everyday. The process is the psychiatrist speaks to you everyday and accesses you. Mine were Dr. Uzoamaka Vanessa Onyejiake and Praveen Sandya. They ask you if hearing or seeing things, think you have superpowers, speaking to yourself, have suicidal thoughts, and see your actions, behaviors, and feelings. You usually stay from 1-3 weeks. First you have to speak to your lawyer and go to court to choose to be voluntary or involuntary. The psychiatrist judges when it s best for you to be discharged. When discharged there s a final meeting with your parents. The psychiatrist calls your parents throughout the stay to tell them how your doing. Your parents sign the paperwork and your out of the hospital and can go back to school and your normal life. If they don t think you should be sent home you go to residential. I m thankful for this experience as it made me stronger although I wanted to go through school and not have these problems. In life the reality is your going to face struggles it s what you do when these times comes that attests to who you are. I m going to college to become a dermatologist. I ve matured and plan to I m now able to live without medication it s a process. Practicing good mental health practices and taking care of yourself and using coping skills is key. I m not going to lie it was tough being there and I understand some of the low reviews. Still it serves it s place where you can put your mind at peace and get to a place where your not a danger to yourself or others. These are my experiences with Rutgers Behavioral Health and Carrier as a whole. Dr. Sandhu is an amazing psychiatrist and makes sure your feeling mentally well, along with the mental health technicians you ll have a positive stay.
