About New Horizon Counseling Center

Based in Valley Stream, New York, New Horizon Counseling Center (NHCC) is a leading nonprofit outpatient drug rehab, mental and behavioral health center licensed by the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH). Care is available to individuals of all ages and families. They accept most private insurance options, Medicaid, Medicare and private payment. Sliding scale fees are available to those eligible.

Their reputation has been nurtured by more than 30 years of experience serving the local community. Clients can rest assured that when they come here for help, they’re in experienced hands.

The addiction treatment program here provides a full range of services to teens and adults including individual, group, marital, psychiatric and family therapy. Sessions take place in a warm, peaceful setting where clients can feel safe and free to share their feelings and experiences without judgment, supported by empathetic staff.

Addiction education sessions are also available and address a range of topics including
relapse prevention, anger management, conflict resolution, improving self-esteem, goal setting, abstinence skills and opening up to sober socialization. They also help individuals understand how addiction affects the mind as well as the social, physical, medical and even familial consequences of substance use.

Following evaluation and assessments, clients will receive a personalized treatment plan and can expect to begin treatment within a week.

Specialized age-specific services are available for teens. Using a multifaceted, multi-layered approach, the team helps young people recognize the harm that addiction can cause. These services are available to teens aged 13 to 18 who are currently misusing drugs or alcohol. Family involvement is encouraged where applicable. In this way, family members also receive education and support, so that they can be better equipped to help their child through recovery.

Services are also available here in Spanish. Clients can also access medication-assisted treatment (MAT) and management services, anger management classes, and DWI programs here as needed.

Great place to reset your life. In the beginning it seemed a bit off, due to my participation being an unfortunate requirement due to my scenario, however after a few weeks it was clear that everyone I interacted with (in the chemical dependency 3rd floor section) does genuinely care. Glenn in specific, was a great help through my journey.

I have been struggling with Anxiety after I was in a medically induced coma for double pneumonia, I ve seen many negative reviews here that are mostly from a year ago. They must have updated their staff because my experiences so far have been the opposite of what I have been reading.

From my first interaction with the receptionist staff, the Therapist, the Nurse Practitioner, and the Nurse, everyone has been incredibly helpful. They are empathetic, kind, caring and wonderful. The Valley Stream location has evening hours so it is convenient after work. I highly recommend New Horizon Counseling Center.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When you choose drug rehab in New York, you'll participate in a variety of treatments that are designed to help you live a drug-free lifestyle. Common methods of treatment include group, individual, and family counseling, medication management, nutrition, exercise, and management of co-occurring mental health disorders.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

I had the major misfortune to come here without knowing what a waste of time it would be. First of all, they lack of doctors, most of them are practitioners, which is not bad but it's not helpful either most of the time. Second, the receptionist couldn't be more rude, they n ... Read More

I left this place years ago because they let my Father inside the office to speak with my therapist without my consent. They also put my sister down as a proxy to make medical decisions on my behalf without even telling me.This place is absolutely disgusting and it needs to be closed down as soon as possible. The people who run the place and the office staff have no business working anywhere. If you make a complaint they ll retaliate against you and act like a bunch of immature children who didn t get their way.
