My daughter went through the Mountain Valley treatment program for her anxiety. Mountain Valley provides excellent, evidenced based treatment for anxiety and OCD to teens and young adults ages 13-21 in a beautiful, warm setting. The staff: directors, clinicians, and residential staff, are intelligent, skilled, compassionate, and wise. Not only do they provide great treatment in the form of exposure response treatment, CBT, DBT, and ACT; they explore the larger life journey, values, and meaning for each resident. They connect the residents to nature in their beautiful NH setting, and on their farm with animals. They have a wonderful chef and integrate healthy food and life style choices. They have a three phase treatment structure that aligns the treatment process with the idea of a heroic journey, and have ceremonies to mark entering each phase (a fire ceremony and an ice bath ceremony). They foster an atmosphere among the residents that allow them to develop community with others and deep connections. My daughter not only learned the tools to address her anxiety that she will carry forward, she learned to connect with herself and her values, and to tolerate her distress and challenges with courage. In addition, they offer a parent support and education program that allows us to learn about anxiety, supports us, and gives us the tools to parent our children with significant anxiety. They also offer a transitions program for the residents after they leave to bridge the return to their lives at school, home, and in their communities, My daughter s experience at Mountain Valley was life changing and healing. I recommend it without reservation for kids with severe anxiety and OCD, and am so grateful for her and our experience at Mountain Valley.

I don t have the proper words to express how much Mountain Valley means to me. I would give it ten stars out of five if that were possible.By May 2023, my parents were scared and confused, unsure of how to move forward. My OCD and anxiety had spiraled out of control. Despite continuing a perfect attendance at school to match my nearly perfect Junior year grades, I had never been more unhealthy. I was diagnosed with ARFID and lost over 10 pounds. Eventually, my therapist told my parents that simple outpatient treatment was not enough: residential treatment was the best option.I was upset and felt betrayed surely I was not that bad and hadn t everyone been saying that my outpatient therapists knew what they were doing? I (reluctantly) took a call with MVTC admissions and showed them the bubbly facade I was an expert at. By a stroke of fortune, they had availability for me. At the time, I was unimpressed and furious that my junior year would go up in flames after all my hard work.Being the understanding people that they are, Mountain Valley staff allowed me to finish up my last month at school before checking in (while this option is not always the best or what s recommended, I had enough support at home and so little time left that it ended up working out).I arrived at Mountain Valley on May 30, 2023. Admittedly, I had bought into some parts of the idea, making collage posters for my room and downloading music onto my Mighty. My biggest concerns going in were the food, the roommate situation, and if this was even going to work. To me, playing with farm animals and doing random art seemed too lighthearted to fight the dark demons I had inside. Well, little did I know that I had just entered into the most incredible place on this planet. Having to leave after 87 days was bittersweet and I longed to return even as I thrived back in the real world. To address my initial concerns, the food was amazing and diverse. The chef was kind and loved to take recommendations. We baked or cooked sometimes during modules, and there were always snacks available or leftovers if I didn t want a particular dish. And the roommates. I was scared that they would hate me or think I was weird or judge my OCD. None of those things were present anywhere at Mountain Valley. The staff tried to match roommates up by personality while also keeping a minimal age gap, but every single person eventually bonded with their roommates. Of course, in such an accepting, loving community, it was nearly impossible for anyone to have animosity or judgment. I still talk to my roommates on Facetime or text often, as they ve become my most trusted confidantes.Thirdly, the treatment itself. The therapists are out-of-this-world. They aren t robotic or working against you; truly, they re on your team and want to work to help you succeed. They are very human, and living in a residential setting brings out that side of everyone. You see your therapist in very serious conversations in their office, and you also see them playing capture the flag on a sunny day or getting lunch or when they take you off campus for a special treat, just because. There s no shame in therapy, whether it be family, group, or individual. You are living in a healing environment where everyone around you has your best interests at heart. That s how doing random art helps: you get to explore your identity, embrace your inner child, and live in a safe space.(this is only half of my post; the character limit was exceeded because I have too many great things to say!)

This was the first adult psych trip I d had since turning 18. Going in I was very nervous as my last visit to a behavioral health center for minors was unpleasant to say the least. I can say today though that this was the most comfortable stay I ve had in a psychiatric unit and I left feeling like my problems mattered while I was there.I was able to meet with a team of training med students and professional psychiatrists at least once a day with vitals taken daily and medication given daily if prescribed. I feel like I understand my mental health a lot better through the optional group therapies which allowed for open discussion between a therapist and all the patients. You were able to see both a professional and personal solution to different problems, such as; coping with grief or cognitive distortions, while sharing your own story if you choose to do so.Often nights the other patients and I would gather around the table and play games or watch TV together while having conversation. The nurses did not specify bedtime or wake time (though most slept before 11 PM and woke for breakfast at 8 AM willingly) making the experience very personalized.Upon leaving I was also provided with a bridge program to meet with a psychiatrist on unit until I can be transferred to an outpatient provider to continue my meds. I was also given written instructions on how to fill out the new patient intake forms at the care center nearest to me making me able to attain a primary care physician!I left there having made a few friends who never failed to lift my spirits or offer a helping hand when I was having a bad day. Overall, I feel better equipped to care for myself both physically and mentally when it had overwhelmed me so much just a week prior.Thank you to the whole team and a special thanks to nurses Melissa and Allison, Ashley, and Dr. Schwartz. These were some members of the staff who left a lasting impression on me going above and beyond to make me feel comfortable in my stay.

Avenues was my 3rd treatment center that I ve been to and hopefully my last. Just to get it out of the way it s not the Ritz Carlton by any means but the place is well taken care of and comfortable considering it holds up to 49 men and women in three different buildings. There s a gym with some amenities to get a good workout in and they feed us very well. What more do you need?Honestly I can say so many wonderful things about this place but I ll try to keep it short and sweet. Most of the staff were extremely helpful and caring. They truly do care, and it shows. Most of them have been in treatment themselves and understand the disease of addiction first hand. The groups were always informative and engaging and counseling is offered as well. What really stood out to me and made my treatment experience different from the others was the other clients. The camaraderie between us all was something I had never experienced in my life and made me feel a part of. The bonds that I created were genuine and for the first time in my life I felt accepted. The opposite of addiction is connection and I found just that at Avenues. I felt for the first time that I could just be myself, my true authentic self, and everyone accepted me and loved me for who I was and where I was at.Karaoke Sundays were the highlight of my week. To be real it was my first time doing Karaoke! They say to stay sober you gotta do things you ve never done and it starts with getting out of your comfort zone and being vulnerable.HERE S THE MOST IMPORTANT PARTYou will get back exactly what you put in and if you choose to just let those walls down and let others see you, you will be OK.They also offer an Alumni program so when you graduate and get out you can stay connected with others who have graduated and are on the path of recovery. You can get involved with a bunch of different activities and get togethers which are all free!I realize I m not alone anymore and I can t say how grateful I am for that.
