About New Beginnings

New Beginnings, located in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, is a holistic addiction treatment center that helps men and women through evidence-based tools and alternative therapies. They focus on personal care that caters to the unique needs of each person.

New Beginnings offers intensive outpatient, outpatient, and medication assisted treatment.

Intensive outpatient treatment is for men and women who may need additional support after they complete residential treatment. The primary focus is to begin the process of helping people reintegrate back into their daily routines. Daily therapy, such as individual or group therapy is offered.

The outpatient program is catered to fit the individual and focuses on ongoing treatment approaches that support long-term recovery. Trauma treatment, individual and group therapy, and aftercare support are provided.

The medication assisted treatment program combines FDA approved medications with mental health counseling to mitigate withdrawal symptoms, decrease the chance of relapse, and support each person in working through issues surrounding their addiction.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

inpatient iconInpatient

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

aftercare iconAftercare

Clients receiving services from a rehab aftercare program are usually stable and in the maintenance phase of recovery, having completed detox and/or intensive inpatient treatment. Rehab aftercare services can vary widely based on clients' individual and evolving needs, but often include peer coaching, relapse prevention support, 12 step program induction, and medical, mental health, and social service referrals. Individual care plans are typically developed by the client in partnership with their case manager and care team.

12-step icon12-Step

12 step programs prioritize the recovery journey as a life-long process based on personal spiritual growth and ongoing peer support. Regular attendance at 12 step meetings, which are held multiple times each day in most communities, is expected. Participants also receive one-on-one mentoring by a self-selected peer sponsor. The 12 steps are designed to encourage participants' self-compassion, awareness, acceptance, and accountability. Dedicated programs for specialized groups, including seniors, teens, and families, are common.

sober-living iconSober Living Homes

Residents of a sober living home in Pennsylvania pay rent and contribute to household maintenance. For their contributions, individuals get the opportunity to live in a substance-free environment and receive support from others in recovery while all residents practice sober-living skills. Sober living expenses are not covered by insurance since they are not treatment services. However, grants and scholarships are often available to help individuals afford rent for men's or women's sober living.

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox

A medical detox is the safest way to wean your body off drugs and/or alcohol in an inpatient setting. When detoxing from addictive substances, the physical and psychological side effects of withdrawal can cause mood swings, anxiety, nausea, or flu-like symptoms. In medically assisted detox, a team of medical professionals are on hand 24/7 to help alleviate potential withdrawal symptoms, administer medications to alleviate withdrawal symptoms, and ultimately keep you safe and comfortable throughout this process.

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

dialectical iconDialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

desert iconMotivational Interviewing

Motivational interviewing in Pennsylvania gives you the opportunity to share your perspective and explore your ideas and motivation for change. Your therapist will walk you through the four steps of engaging, focusing, evoking, and planning to empower you to make any desired changes in your life.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

couples-therapy iconCouples Therapy

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

eye-movement iconEye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a short term, client centered therapeutic technique that helps you integrate traumatic memories of events you may have seen or experienced. This reduces the effects and symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder. EMDR is widely applicable to a variety of conditions but is most commonly associated with trauma therapy.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

art-brush iconCreative Arts Therapy

Artistic talent is not required to participate in creative arts therapy. This form of rehab treatment in Pennsylvania simply allows you to try different art media and use the one that works best for you to express yourself. The goal is not to produce quality art but to use the creative process as an outlet for recovery.

medical-detox iconExperiential Therapy

Emotions that surface during experiential therapy can reveal how you've coped with situations in the past. A trained therapist will guide you through conversations about your emotions and reactions either during therapy or in a follow up session. Therapy may include activities such as equine therapy, wilderness therapy, martial arts, drama, music, or art.

The therapists are professional and friendly, however, only two stars for the front desk staff. Some are very rude or appear completely unconcerned with your situation.

I have nothing but good things to say about New Beginnings. I transferred there to join my therapist Abbey Bressler. She is attentive, caring and always there when you need her. I would have never made it through some things without her. She supports you like a therapist should. I don't want to people well which is why I followed Abbey from another place. The staff is great I get multiple reminders through the week so I never miss.

I am very pleased with my experience with new beginnings. I get reminders of my appointments every week and my therapist abbey bressler has been the best therapist. She has helped me through many years and has been the only therapist that has made me believe in therapy. I will continue to stay with her and new beginnings. If I could give way more stars I would.

I was a little hesitant to go through New Beginnings for mental health treatment due to the not great reviews on here, but I am happy that I gave them a chance. They are good about returning phone calls in a timely manner, every person I have spoken to has been very kind and professional, and my provider was very prompt about getting my medication sent to the pharmacy.

Unfortunately, there is no option for a negative number of stars. I have "tried" to use New Beginnings for about 1 month now. In that time I met with a Functional Nurse Practitioner and she explained they'd be happy to help me and they have experience in treating and helping those in my circumstances, THEN, this fact was directly contradicted when I asked for and received a different FNP. The new FNP stated we "Don't do "that" (Specific type of casework that the previous FNP said they do, INDEED, "do""). From the therapy sde, I had one meeting with a therapist, who I liked very much, and received a text that she is no longer working for the company 2 days later and that someone would be in touch to get me a new therapist, which hasn't happened yet. It's a dumpster fire. I don't know how else to say it, they're unorganized, hire people who probably shouldn't be in that line of work, they don't take/read the notes accurately or communicate between staff regarding the client at even the base level of "why are they here?", they have pretty obvious biases that shouldn't be introduced into therapy, they diagnose over the phone at the first meeting with minimal information and it appeared the whole process and treatment in general is crammed into less time than is necessary to help and when you combine that with the absurd level of turnover,.it's a recipe for failure. It's probably not a great idea to have to lose your therapist and restart the entire process to get the new one up to speed. They have made an already painful issue worse and wasted my time and the insurance company's money. Between the staff turnover, lack of communication, not reading the relevant information on the client, this place is a mess. Worse yet, my circumstances are time sensitive. Would never recommend it to anyone for any reason.
