Navy Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program - SARP VA 23708

About SARP Portsmouth VA

The Navy Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program is a rehab program for addiction in Portsmouth, Virginia. Most people call it SARP. This program operates in the Naval Medical Center.

This program is on a mission to help military members overcome addiction and return to a healthy and sober life. It’s for active duty military. It’s run by the Navy. But it’s actually open to active duty military from all service branches like the Army and the Air Force as well.

This rehab has different levels of treatment based on where you are in your recovery and how much support you need. The first is level 0.5 which is called Prime for Life. It’s a short educational course that’s more focused on prevention so it’s designed for people who aren’t diagnosed with substance use disorder but have some signs of excessive use or are at risk for addiction.

The next is level 1. This is a short outpatient program. It’s mainly for people who have mild alcohol addiction. For a more intensive outpatient program there are levels 2.1 and 2.5 which give you a heavier treatment schedule while you still live at home.

Level 3 treatment is the highest level of care and it’s a residential program for five weeks. It’s for people who have a moderate to severe addiction and need a structured and comprehensive program to launch their recovery.

Regardless of which level of care you need, you’ll also have access to aftercare for your continued sobriety. There are 12 step meetings along with other low intensity treatments.

The program knows how to serve the specific needs of active duty military. If you want help for your addiction that you can balance with your service and that understands how your service impacts your addiction, this program is made for you.

Told me I wasn t allowed to feel what I felt. Said if I wasn t honest with them, I would not get out. Apparently they thought I was lying? Soo what did I do then? So I lied about what I felt to get out. What kind of messed up logic is that?I think the counselors need professional help.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Clients participating in a rehab aftercare program receive comprehensive and customized support as they leave high-intensity treatment, reintegrate into their community, and focus on maintaining their sobriety. These programs offer a wide variety of services to align with the client's unique and evolving needs, often including medical, mental health, and social service program referrals. Clients typically develop their drug rehab aftercare plan in conjunction with their case manager and care team.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
A sober living home in Vermont offers a balance between monitored structure and living in mainstream society. No alcohol or drugs are allowed on the premises, and residents must participate in 12-step meetings. Residents of the halfway house also agree to submit to random drug screenings, pay rent, and participate in household activities such as meetings, meals, and chores.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
24-hour clinical care in Virginia features a highly trained team of professionals to treat your physical, mental, and emotional needs. Doctors and nurses are available to prescribe and administer medications. Psychologists and counselors provide professional counseling. Other experts such as nutritionists and addiction specialists may also offer support. This 24/7, comprehensive care is designed to give you the support you need to begin a successful recovery.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

When you enroll in drug rehab in Virginia, a treatment plan is designed by professional staff in order to help you overcome drug addiction and modify addictive behaviors. This may include evidence-based treatments, group and individual therapy, and relapse prevention.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

The staff is so rude and disgusting! I feel like I would be better making this recovery alone by myself. Useless.

Need help? Great place. They won't listen to you, your actual needs, nor the recommendation from your actual doctor. They will however put you in a little excel calculator and be so dead set on what they decide you can face all kinds of fun retaliation!
