In my opinion, SSM Acute Rehab deserves the highest rating we can give. Let me provide you with a quick overview. Note, I was there over a 3-4 week period.Doctors: Each patient has a Rehab and Medical doctor who came to see and speak to me everyday of my stay. They were professional and best of all compassionate. The insurance team fought my insurance company to ensure I received the best care possible and extended my stay 3 times. The Nurses and Techs responded quickly and worked to assist me with all my needs. I was treated like royalty.Admittedly, the food was less than satisfying. However, I did not come to eat. I came to work and walk again.By far, I save my greatest praise to the OTs, PTs and their Techs. Each day I was asked about my goals for that day. You would be surprised how quickly you heal if you accomplish daily goals. This group of individuals outlined expectations and assisted me with encouragement, support, and a sense of compassion I have not witnessed in a long time. My condition was complicated from the beginning, but the team found a way to tackle the road blocks and clear a path for me to succeed! Even though I have a ways to go, I did walk out of the hospital and accomplished my goal with Everyone's help. I cannot thank St. Mary's Rehab enough for the support and compassion. I now think of them as family. These are wonderful people who treat each patient like their own family. I cannot thank them enough.John Chestnas

Pre and post op teams were awesome. They took care of my husband and were happy to answer any questions I had.We had a staff member- unsure if she was a nurse, or otherwise, assist with transport to our vehicle. She was so unfriendly. Didn t greet us in the room or help get my husband into his wheelchair. Once down in the lobby, she audibly scoffed because it was snowing outside. As I was getting my car, while she and my husband waited inside, my husband explained to me she stated it s cold and she turned around and left my husband alone in his wheelchair without even telling him she was leaving and not coming back to assist. He eventually lifted himself out of his wheelchair, and walked himself to the door where I met him with great surprise.I know this is not protocol or typical of transport service, especially after an abdominal surgery, and I wish I would have gotten her name because she is the only reason I would not give another star. Everyone else was so kind and attentive.

The care teams at St Mary s Hospital saved my life, from doctors and nurses in the ER Dept to the main hospital doctor and nurse teams on the floor after my admittance for 6 days. I am on blood thinners, had major oral surgery and hours laters began bleeding excessively and constantly for hours. I went into afib, my bp dropped, and I passed out any time I tried to stand. There were 2 ER visits; the doctor at the 1st one was able to control the bleeding and pain and I was sent home. But it didn t last. At the 2nd 911 call and ambulance to ER, I was admitted. The doctors and nurses are excellent. I felt heard and received excellent care. Not everything was perfect, there were a few hitches, but after 2 blood transfusions, with the bleeding stopped, I improved. I highly recommend St Mary s Hospital. My experiences at Mercy (due to my heart condition) were horrendous. St Mary s care teams, from medical, to nutrition, to Physical Therapy, is how the system should work, with the needs and care of the patient first. I am grateful to all who helped me.
