In my opinion, SSM Acute Rehab deserves the highest rating we can give. Let me provide you with a quick overview. Note, I was there over a 3-4 week period.Doctors: Each patient has a Rehab and Medical doctor who came to see and speak to me everyday of my stay. They were professional and best of all compassionate. The insurance team fought my insurance company to ensure I received the best care possible and extended my stay 3 times. The Nurses and Techs responded quickly and worked to assist me with all my needs. I was treated like royalty.Admittedly, the food was less than satisfying. However, I did not come to eat. I came to work and walk again.By far, I save my greatest praise to the OTs, PTs and their Techs. Each day I was asked about my goals for that day. You would be surprised how quickly you heal if you accomplish daily goals. This group of individuals outlined expectations and assisted me with encouragement, support, and a sense of compassion I have not witnessed in a long time. My condition was complicated from the beginning, but the team found a way to tackle the road blocks and clear a path for me to succeed! Even though I have a ways to go, I did walk out of the hospital and accomplished my goal with Everyone's help. I cannot thank St. Mary's Rehab enough for the support and compassion. I now think of them as family. These are wonderful people who treat each patient like their own family. I cannot thank them enough.John Chestnas

I am updating my review because it is no longer relevant. I am very sad to hear that the director John is retiring; he is a wonderful, caring person. Some tips: they only check bills with a marker that only detects the presence of starch. This only works to ID fake bills that have been printed off of somebody's HP or Lexmark onto cheap printer paper. even accidentally washing your pants with a 20 in the pocket will be enough to "set off" their pens. Bills made priot to 1973 also automatically fail. Because counterfeiters often use bleached, real $1 bills, not only are they vulnerable to larceny, but false positives left me and others feeling judged and unable to dose. I acquired easy to read posters and literature from the St Louis Department of Revenue for local businesses to detect counterfeit currency and distributed them to every window. They did not use them or even try the many ways the US Treasury advises to detect fake currency (microprinting, watermark, texture of raised ink, security thread, color-shifting print, etc.) Implying I have a 65 ton printing press in my basement but used a $1.99 ream from Kinko's.Speaking of money, they do not take change (coins)and nor do neighboring businesses. They also may not reinmburse you if you don't have the correct bills for exact change.Counselors are a hit and miss. I have encountered 12 steppers who are proud to treat a disease the same exact way for a near century and are quick to blame you if AA doesn't help, never the program. Even if you have been repeatedly victimized by 13th steppers. Imagine if an antibiotic failed to cure your infection. Would your doctor say you have moral failings and give you more of the same antibiotic? No. Some counselors here do know about smart recovery and other, actually helpful, programs. Do not be afraid to find someone who works.

Just wanted to come on here and leave an update since my last review. I only have one thing to say BRING BACK Becky!!!The only reason I m giving this place a five star rating is because of Nancy, Becky! These nurses are amazing and go above and beyond. They are so overworked and at times very unappreciated by some of the clients. High five to Mark and Jeff as well these two councilors are handling very heavy caseloads but still manage to show that they love their job and want what s best for their clients. They also know how to handle the hot headed ones the reasons I could have given it a one star:Their drug lab sucks!! 50 percent of the time their results are wrong. You could be 100 percent clean and the test could come back positive. They know the lab sucks but says there is nothing they can do about it when they send it back to be retested then most of the time the true results will come back. But now they have this new rule where you have to pay 35 dollars for your test to be retested!! It s a money making scam!! They tell you the lab sucks and most of the time will get your results wrong but now wanna charge you 35 to have it sent back!??!? They know they ll make hella money! What pisses me off is for the one such as myself who are on probation, this could potentially get me in huge trouble! Thank god I get hair follicles from the state! For the love of God New Seasons GET A NEW LAB!!

I was a patient in this hospital in July of 2021. I was there for about 3 weeks. My whole overall experience was very good. Everyone treated me very well and helped me with my recovery from lung surgery. They really saved my life imO don't remember the Doctors who saved me but I was a very sick woman. I had a hole in my lung, my lung was collapsed and also had an abscess on the inside of my lung that ruptured. If I wouldn't have been sent there in an emergency all the way from Granite city, I believe I would have died. The Doctor told me I almost died 2 times. So they were very great with me. So I say thank you to all doctors and nurses that took care of me.

Dr. Shiue is an amazing physician, she was my son's pedestrian, I remember him getting sick and i would call and she would always see him I know she worked through lunch and stayed late as well. He was 21 and no longer technically her patient but had not seen an adult Phyician and was going to be over a week to get in, I called the office with my concerns, they spoke with her and she saw him through her lunch break, Dr. Shiue also called the adult Doctor and got him in the next day, turned out he had a really bad case of pneumonia. Dr. Shiue also gave me her private cell number to call her if I needed anything. She is totally an amazing person as well as a physician, she really cares about her patients and the parents as well, she has called me after hours to follow up on my son. It was very hard to move on to an adult physician. I can not say enough about the staff and her. My son is now grown and is expecting a little one of his own and of course Dr. Shiue will be her Doctor. I trusted her with my son and now my Granddaughter 100 %. Dr. Shiue is one in a million and can't say how happy I am she will be seeing my Granddaughter

When my children were in high school, I noticed the kids today party much more than when I was a kid. For a while, I thought their actions were those of normal teens, having fun, blowing off steam, etc..After all, they were teens, and mine were enrolled in a tough private school. I tried to justify the pressure not to rock the boat at home. Well, it started getting out of hand; failing grades, disrespect, lies, rudeness, and no concern for each other, and certainly not for my husband or myself. We tried a few licensed therapists whom my children had snowed. An education counselor strongly recommended a wilderness program in Utah for approximately 3 months only to follow up with a therapeutic boarding school for the following year. Parents will do anything for their child, especially when you feel helpless, don t know where to turn, and you feel them slipping away emotionally. Wilderness may be great for some, but it was a very temporary band aid for mine barely scratching the surface. The so called therapeutic boarding school was the scariest place I had ever visited. I wasn t one bit surprised when I realized my child regressed at that school, but my intention here isn t to bash the schools as they may help with other issues, but they don t address addiction. I ll get to the point Crossroads Recovery Program.. I made the call, and it was the best decision I have ever made. As a mother, I knew it was the perfect program for my daughter, and later, my son. My husband, however, took his time doing due his diligence. A week later, our daughter was enrolled, and months after that, our son joined the group. After my initial jitters, I found myself absolutely adoring this program and all it had to offer. I have to say I was weary of my kid hanging out with former addicts, and then I thought, wait, these kids are now sober, no one is forcing them to be here, and helping the new kids in turn helps them. Crossroads is based on the twelve step program. It s a strong, solid program, for addicts and non addicts. It strengthens relationships and enriches lives, and it can be incorporated in all areas of one s life. Let me tell you just a few things I have learned from Crossroads; it s not a short fix-meaning you don t just go to a 30 day program and you re miraculously cured! It takes your teen, or twenty something child to want to change his/her life, and it takes at least a couple of years before they are ready to move on from the program after all, they are young! They have unbelievable second-to-none support from the peers in the group, counselors and group and graduates as well. They have a blast in this program, and come to realize sobriety is much more fun than their previous lifestyles. They have learned real life lessons, and I am still amazed at how grateful, kind, caring, and honest my children are because of Crossroads. Just in the past three plus years we have been involved, several grads are now in college, working, or both, and two that I know of headed off to med school. I am very grateful to have gotten to know the participants in Crossroads; they are the sweetest, most caring, non judgmental and fun group of teens/twenties I have ever known. For the first several months I was involved with the parent meetings because I would do anything to support my children. Over time I have come to realize that those meetings are for me & for my own healing, after all, addiction is a family disease. I am continually learning from the parent education meetings. It s an unexpected bonus that I feel that I have grown as a person as well, (always a work in progress). These counselors give their time and talents more than any other. A big part of the success of Crossroads is because the counselors have all been there, and the kids can totally relate to them. They get it, and they are totally dedicated. Is it perfect? I would have to say no but I don t know what I would change! I do know there is no better support out there, I can t say enough good things about Crossroads. Forever grateful.
