I could not have had a better experience! Everyone from the moment I walked in, taken to the back and left was kind and helpful. I m big on looking at patients outside of what a textbook says. My daughter has been sick for 3months and I was fed up with her old pediatric office not doing anything. I m so glad I switched to Howell Pediatrics and Teen Center. I felt heard, understood and I could tell they cared for my daughter s wellbeing. As a first time mom those three things are important. I m thankful we have found our new pediatrician. Thank you for caring for my family and making us feel like a priority!

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Clients may receive peer coaching, 12 step program induction, vocational training, and relapse prevention services.

The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

During motivational interviewing, therapists express empathy, support self efficacy, and develop discrepancies. By using these techniques, therapists help clients reflect on their desires for change and understand why and how they should move forward with those changes.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

Substance abuse negatively affects your nutrition. Some drugs affect your metabolism, while others affect how your body absorbs nutrients. Others suppress your appetite. To restore balance to your systems, nutrition therapy provides a healthy meal plan and training for how to eat the right foods to support addiction recovery.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

BE WARNED of their PREDATORY billing practices!!!I took my son in for a routine well child visit, but was shocked to find they snuck in costly extra charges at every opportunity without consent. They billed $73 for using a tablet to fill out a depression/safety survey they required, and $175 for discussing my son's picky eating with the doctor who then offered me a referral to occupational therapy. I was never informed about the associated costs to simply answer their questions, which effectively turned my free visit into a huge bill. When I called to dispute the charges, I was met with a dismissive response from the customer service representative who just repeated that this was their standard practice. She clarified that if you answer the screening questions, even verbally, you will be billed. They do not tell patients this up front. I have also learned they bill for calling the office and sending messages through the portal. There is no safe way to interact with them without fear of being charged. It is disappointing to learn that the University of Michigan is willing to deploy unethical practices, especially when it violates the No Surprises Act (I called, verified this is a violation and filed a complaint). It is not ok to use sneaky and hidden practices to bill patients for services that they never authorized. Every question was loaded with the intent of filing another charge. As a concerned parent, I urge others to be cautious and vigilant when dealing with them.Update: I spoke with patient relations and the office refused to budge on the charges. I was told to help lessen the risk of predatory, sneaky charges that I should inquire if I d be charged before EVERY interaction. But even then, there s no guarantee! We moved on to a provider who doesn t nickel and dime us extra for providing a standard, routine visit.

So, I have to edit my review from before:The baby is now 22 mos and we had some of the best care & nurses this past week with our grandson! He had a very bad scare with a really high fever, EMS & subsequent trip to ER.Not only were the nurses available and long suffering, but, good listeners. Then, the office staff followed up on a missed prescription today. They got us in to see Dr. yesterday. Dr.Cindy was informative and great as usual and took care of our little guy. We had nurse Sue today, call us back and follow up. She was super helpful and again a good listener. We spoke w/Annette & MA yesterday, w/ Cindy that was fabulous. We also had a nurse last Thursday eve, that stayed on the phone with his mother, determining whether to take him to ER or not. Her calm voice was reassuring and super helpful. So, not only was the central line helpful today, with Annette but we didn t get rerouted. Everyone was able to help us quickly and within a few minutes of waiting on hold. 6/23/222I just needed to update this review because I had left the one below and just wanted people to know that Howell pediatrics through U Of M , in Howell, is still operating with excellence in a lot of areas!2021:We really like the Howell pediatrics for our grandchildren but, it sure has changed since the days of Dr. Kim and local community. They have excellent physicians, great medical assistants, support staff, and receptionists. However, it is sad that parents have to sit on the phone and wait for the call center to forward you to a nurse line, when your baby has a fever, only to be sent back to call center line because no one answered. The hold time on the phone is ridiculous and so annoying when you are truly concerned are about your child s well being. Sometimes waiting 40 minutes to speak to someone about same day appointment. We used to be able to call up and speak to an actual secretary right at the building in the local community or office, who knew what was going in THAT particular office. It s just gotten too big, being in the university system. Why do you have to be forwarded to a central call center? It brings customer satisfactiondown, (even though they are super polite and accommodating when you DO get a hold of a person.) It isn t very conscientious to the patients or their families. Why can t the local office take the calls for their office and manage their own scheduling or emergent care?We want our local community members, not big hospital business, when dealing with our own children in our own local communities. We want someone we can talk to who actually interacts with our local drs.and patients. Why is it that big hospitals took this hometown appeal and feeling away from the local buildings and their local drs. ?You can still have the U of M health system logo and still be a part of the overall system without having to sacrifice good care in scheduling or waiting to get on the nurse lines and then getting accidentally transferred back to reception line. (The nurses are wonderful on the nurse lines so we don t mind waiting once we are on the nurse line.)I mean, come on! This little one has a higher fever and symptoms he s 13 mos old!!! We don t want to run to emergency if it s not necessary or without talking to our local pediatrician and their office or a nurse. We don t want to wait on hold, only to have to start all over in the phone system because the nurse line is busy and so the system automatically sends the call back to the call line. Just leave us in the nurse cue. No one wants to red plain all over again.I would have given five stars but this has happened too many times to mother of an infant who wants to speak to someone and get care sooner. No one likes getting lost in the phone system. Now the infant is a toddler, and it s still happening.Other than that, the care we have received at the actual office has been conscientious, caring and thorough. We appreciate Dr. Cindy and the others who truly care. We appreciate getting in same day and the care we do receive. Overall a great office!!

Horrible experience! They wouldn't even see my son to take his stitches out because he can't wear a mask AND has a medical waiver! I am so done with this place!

Horrible. Requested an exemption letter for my son so he can continue to attend school who has been seen there since he was a baby and he is now 11 only to be denied by a Dr. Maddock who has never even laid eyes on my child, who has never even examined him. This place has been horrible unfortunately since Dr. Wickham who was his primary doctor since he was a baby has left. I won't be returning with my four children who have all been patients there since a very young age.

Wonder staff, warm and welcoming receptionist, nurses and Doctors. They listen to what I m saying and my concerns as a parent. They communicate and work well with the children in all different stages in life. This location is a great place for parents and children who like a smaller office to visit.

The doctors are great but half of the secretaries are the absolute worst. Extremely rude and need to find a job where they don't interact with people. I never expected to be talked to like that and to have them care that little about my child's wellbeing. Too bad you have to interact with them otherwise I would have given 5 stars.
