This place is literally the horror stories you hear about VA clinics. I called to confirm about walk-ins to see a provider. They said yes of course. I show up, get pulled back everything is going okay. A nurse comes in explains she forgot her hearing aids and asks me questions but can t hear me (iv been having a chronic cough and hurts to speak loudly) she checks my lungs but how are you going to convince me that my lungs sound good when you can barely hear me talk? They covid test me and ask if Iv been vaccinated, I explain to her several times Iv been fully vaccinated when I was AD. I ask to get seen by the doctor as a second opinion (the nurse mentioned she wasn t able to prescribe medication which is what I needed as I knew I had some sort of infection as the OTC meds weren t doing the trick). The nurse says okay, and I wait. I then get kicked out of the room im in by the provider herself and then get put into a dirty room, which I told the technician, but didn t care. So I wait even longer until a man comes in and gives me an Urgent care paperwork. Explains to not come to this clinic as a walk-in. (Why even have this service???) the provider will refuse to see you and threaten you with a long wait time as she has other patients who are scheduled first. Such a waste of time, especially when not feeling well. Just take my advice and DO NOT COME HERE AS A WALK-IN. You ll regret it.Btw I ended up going to CareNow afterwards and instantly got diagnosed with Bronchitis and was given medication. Such a simple and quick task and the Katy VA provider didn t even bother to assess me before kicking me out of her office (not even sure why the nurse put me in there to begin with). I will only go there for labs and vision. Never to see a medical provider. I also transferred to the Houston VA hospital as I rather just do the hour drive. So far so good!!

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs are based on a model of continuing care and the premise that recovery is a life-long process requiring ongoing client support. Many rehab aftercare services include outpatient care, but clients often continue to receive support after being discharged from formal treatment. Case managers and care teams typically collaborate with clients to design their long-term care plan, which may include peer coaching, career counseling, and 12 step program induction, among other services.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

During rehab in Texas, you'll deal with underlying issues that contribute to addiction. By addressing these challenges and learning healthy ways to cope with them, you'll develop strategies that help you live a drug-free lifestyle.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.
military-program thumbnail image
Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

I've been using the Katy VA clinic for about 3 years now and have never had any issues. They've been proactive on contacting me for appointments and even calling me whenever I've missed or been late to appointments. The docs are nice, Doc K is nice and amenable, you must advocate for yourself and she'll listen. Doc D (my dr crush...lol), my sleep doc and her NP are nice and very receptive regarding my CPAP treatment and respond quickly to parts orders and concerns using the messenger in the VA app. Yes, the receptionists are sassy at times, but they are nice ladies, the reception room is too echo-y and is in dire need of sound diffusion or sound deadening panels, I think that would help everyone.Overall, the Katy VA clinic has been great to me, it's convenient and communication with them is not difficult. I recommend fellow veterans leverage the VA app more, you can set up appointments, message the docs and NPs, get Rx refills and check on your disability status if you have it.

Typical VA care here. Doctor doesn t really listen to you, just trying to hurry and get you out of there. They wonder why veterans kill themselves when no one here gives a damn.

Best VA in Texas! The staff was so amazing, friendly, and caring. I don't ride elevators so they sent officer Rodriguez down to escort me on the emergency stairs. I accidentally checked suicidally on the paperwork the staff was so caring and persistence they wouldn't leave me alone, then I finally realized I had checked suicidally. RN Mrs. Georgia made sure I got medicine the same day and hooked me up with all the information I wanted and needed. I am so grateful I went they made me feel amazing, I'm glad I didn't focus on the reviews.

I regret transferring from the Washington DC VA Medical Center. This location and the Houston VA are jokes to Veteran Healthcare. I walked into this location and was told that I would have to wait to even get started. I wait weeks and call back only to be told that I will continue to have to wait until I am contacted. I go back to waiting, and finally, after a month I m told a video connect appointment has been set. Today is that day, and I ve been sitting in front of my computer for 40 minutes with no assistance. I called the Houston VA and was transferred to the Katy VA Outpatient Clinic, and I am still on hold. Finally, after waiting on hold I m told the MH is gone for a week, and they don t know what to do. I m speechless and angry. What a waste of time.***Months later, I go back to this Katy location for my scheduled appointment. I show up 30 minutes early. I m told at check in that my appointment was canceled, and they tried contacting me 5 times to inform me. I m puzzled because I have been getting the appointment confirmation text for the last week, and I confirmed all of them. One of the secretaries told me that the number that I provided doesn t work or I must have unknown callers blocked. I m agitated at this point and tell them to call my phone while I m in their presence. After confirming my number and watching them call my phone rings and one of the secretaries blurts out "well his phone works, and it says KATY VA OUTPATIENT CLINIC. I am pissed.I hate liars, and this VA clinic doesn t deserve recognition as a facility that serves veterans. I am not sure I will be returning here, but I am very certain that I am leaving and going back to DC.patient advocacy is irrelevant.

The treatment receptionists give vets is unacceptable. There's no need for attitude. We visit the clinic because we need help, we don't want to be here ether. If you don't like your job, go do something else.VA, YOU SHOULD RESTRICT PERSONAL PHONE USAGE AND JUST MAYBE THIS WILL MAKE YOUR EMPLOYEES FOCUS ON DOING THEIR JOB PROPERLY.....
