About Mental Health Resources, Inc. Main Office

Mental Health Resources, Inc. Main Office is a nonprofit organization in Clovis, New Mexico, that provides mental health and substance use services. The organization started in response to the lack of mental health and addiction treatment available in eastern New Mexico. They offer outpatient clinic services, group therapy services and medication assisted treatment (MAT). Clients are able to access these services in person or through teletherapy. The organization also offers community support services, psychosocial rehabilitation services and crisis services. They provide assistance to individuals regardless of their ability to pay. The facility is staffed with therapists that have master’s degrees and have licenses from the New Mexico Board of Social Work examiners or the New Mexico Counseling and Therapy Practice Board.

Clients will receive an assessment from a therapist and then be recommended to the appropriate level of care. The intensive outpatient program (IOP) will involve group sessions that meet three times a week and individual substance use counseling. The program will address both substance use and any underlying mental health issues that are contributing to a client’s addiction. Some individuals may have chronic medical issues that may be a cause of their substance use.

The CareLink program at Mental Health Resources helps to coordinate care for individuals who have both chronic medical issues and mental health disorders. Clients will have appointments coordinated for them, treatment with multiple providers and increased access to health education.

An additional service this organization provides that stands out is its housing services. They connect individuals who have severe mental health issues to reduced rate housing. The organization also teaches clients how to maintain stable housing.

This place is disgusting and if there were any other places in clovis to take my child to for his medical treatments I would take him there instead. The receptionist are okay I suppose but the therapist lack so much professionalism. They gossip about the parents to any and everyone willing to do so and make HORRIBLE judgment calls. My child has told me numerous times that in their "sessions" his feelings and concerns were ignored while his therapist and grandmother gossiped about me (his mother) and my work schedule, love life, finances ect. Which totally defeats the purpose of him receiving services. Also, Trish and Veronica thought it would be in the best interest of my then 14 YEAR OLD CHILD to handle and take his meds which were given to his grandmother to then give all 7 bottles to him in secret with a promise that he won't tell his mother he has them. My child has had several issues with self harm so why any of these people thought this was a good idea is beyond me. I'm seriously pissed off and I will definitely keep pushing to fix this issue because IM NOT going to lose my child because adults with semi earned degrees lack common sense. As a single mother of 5 it is hard enough to hide kitchen knives, over the counter meds, prescription meds, extension cords, shaving razors and various other sharp objects to keep my child from getting them so why are people who are supposed to help him telling him to hide meds from his mother and engaging in slander in front of him ABOUT his mother? Make it make sense. Flat out Disgusting!!!

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Per session payment lets you pay for each treatment at the time of service. You may also pay for a certain number of sessions up front and then pay for more if needed. This format allows you to tailor the financial investment to your specific needs and avoid having a large lump sum payment due at the end of the treatment program.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs promote clients' long-term recovery by providing a robust continuum of care aligned with clients' evolving needs. Because addiction is a chronic disease prone to relapse, rehab aftercare services are highly client-focused and uniquely responsive to clients' changing medical, mental health, and social circumstances. Case managers and care teams collaborate with clients, assess their goals and needs, and provide access to recovery-focused resources, such as peer coaching, employment assistance, and relapse prevention services.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Each drug rehab in New Mexico offers unique amenities and treatment methods. Common aspects of treatment include group and individual counseling, recreational therapy, medication management, and healthy living. Aftercare is often provided to prevent relapse.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
hearing-impaired-program thumbnail image
Hearing Impaired Program
A sensory disability, such as hearing impairment, can compound the challenges of addiction recovery. Drug rehabs that are specially designed to accommodate the needs of persons with hearing impairments will include special accessibility features and accommodations to make treatment as comfortable and effective as possible. This may include access to American Sign Language interpreters.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy at Mental Health Resources - West 21st Street is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members. Mental Health Resources offers substance abuse/recovery groups and education groups to support individuals with Severe Psychiatric Mental Illness (SPMI). Additionally, MHR has community groups that it supports that include Al-Anon and Double Trouble groups.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life. Individual counseling at Mental Health Resources - West 21st Street may include mental health issues, substance abuse/dependence issues, or individuals who have a dual-diagnosis. Counseling is provided on an out-patient basis. Any client above the age of 14 may request counseling services and have the full benefit of confidentiality.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation. Family counseling at Mental Health Resources - West 21st Street is offered and is considered to be a key component in the recovery/resiliency process. Family counseling is also offered for mental health issues, substance abuse/dependence issues and co-occurring issues. Services are offered on an out-patient basis.

Substance use disorders disrupt thinking and behavior patterns, which interferes with critical life skills. Drug rehab programs in New Mexico include life skills training to allow you to rebuild those skills. You'll relearn how to think, behave, and interact with others in healthy ways so you can successfully navigate daily life.

So the therapist are good. However you cant make an appointment until the morning before. And it takes less than 5 minutes fill all their schedules. I'm going to do some math. 8 hours= 8 appointments figure 20 therapists atleast 160 appointments. If 4 phones are making appointments and giving 1 minute for a super fast call, it should take 40 minutes 5 phones 32min, even 10 phones 16 minutes. But everything is most of the time full in 2 to 3 minutes. That means according to their rules of "dont call until the day before". That means 80 phones had to be in use. Knowing that doesn't happen since I have gotten a busy signal many times; this rule is being broken or someone is getting special treatment. I have issues like everyone else but I have to follow the rules, like everyone else. Who is this group that gets special treatment and how can i get on it.

I love the people there. they are very helpful but I haven't been able to get my son in for 4 weeks now due to day before scheduling that they just decided to start doing. Hes seen the same lady same time every 2 weeks for almost 5 months now and hes been having episodes and we cant even get in to see his counselor. This is very frustrating and inconvenience that I'm going to start looking for him another place to go. Someone more reliable and dont inconvenience people. It will he hard for my son since he likes only a few people and doesnt like change. All because of new policy...

They schedule your appointment then tell you to be an hour early, but they still won't see you until your scheduled time. So why make us come an hour early?
