About Meadowlark Psychiatric Services

Meadowlark Psychiatric Services in North Liberty, Iowa, is a mental health treatment facility that serves both children and adults who are struggling with mood regulation, learning disabilities, autism, attention disorders, emotional disturbances or other mental health concerns. The facility accepts most insurance policies, but seeking pre approval is recommended.

This facility treats depression, bipolar disorder, ADD and ADHD, autism, anxiety, schizophrenia, stress, grief, trauma and other adjustment disorders. Patients first attend a testing appointment where psychologists interview the individual as well as any caregivers. This initial assessment helps staff assess cognitive and behavioral functioning. After careful analysis, a psychologist can come up with a personalized recommended treatment plan. The facility provides inpatient psychological testing, psychiatric evaluation, psychotherapy, counseling and mediation management.

Previous clients report positive experiences with their doctors and care plans. They appreciate how personalized the care is, with treatment tailored to their preferences.

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

mental-health iconMental Health

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

substance-abuse iconSubstance Abuse

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

I m concerned that this clinic is relying on psych patients to inform them that they re derelict with federal regulations. For example, in 2022 I had to inform them of concerns that they were using a Notice of Privacy Practices that was drafted in 2003.One of about fifty problems with that is the fact that in 2013, the HITECH ACT generated many new updates and New requirements for the HIPAA notice of privacy practices . There were several new requirements that were mandated to be added to the NPP, with compliance required by September 23, 2013. And it s not just important that these practices are adopted in the notice - but in practice. For me that demonstrates that nobody at this clinic is following the federal register, or Final Rules, for regulations required under CFR.That s incredibly horrifying, coming from a place that handles very vulnerable patients - and psychiatric records.I ve had multiple problems with the voicemail for prescriptions. I ve requested these records and want to have the clinic work to resolve issues with those staff - and to make sure they re making detailed records, thqt adhere to record keeping guidelines.

Ask for a cost breakdown before seeing anyone at this establishment. My insurance wasn t ran for over a month and the therapist was insistent I saw her every week. The bill I got was astronomical. Each appointment was $300-$400 WITH INSURANCE. Absolutely insane. There was a clerical issue with my insurance and when I tried to explain that to them they were less than helpful. No one returns phone calls. I had to email my therapist directly to get any movement or help. I was nothing but kind to these folks but direct. They were not transparent about pricing at all. While discussing this with my therapist her responses were quite short and frankly ended rude. Ended the email best of luck . Sooo are we ending the relationship? I shouldn t have to guess the status of the relationship of my therapist. Very odd. I m also seeing another therapist for couples and provided their pricing as an example ($75 a session out of pocket) and they eventually comped the bill to that rate - I was not asking for that low of a rate just providing an example. The whole situation was tense and odd. It s extremely hard to find a therapist and the way this ended was disheartening. I m allowed to advocate for myself especially if there is a misunderstanding regarding pricing. The quality of care did not amount to $300/hour either.

Dr's are great here and have no problems with them. There seems to never be anyone to answer the phones, ever, and doing everything remote/via phone is not working out

I ve been seeing Dr. Connors for almost 3 years and she s been wonderful. The reception staff has not. Most of them have been rude / standoffish to me. I called yesterday about an issue with my medication, which I need immediately, and no one got back to me after my initial call.

Response from the owner11 months ago

One month in advance I made an appointment with Dr. Erika Lauer to update my medications. When I arrived at the set time, I was told that the doctor had given my appointment to someone else without informing me. I am a 91-years-old woman, use a walker, and must use assisted transportation. I paid $56 to get to an appointment that was not honored, and with no advance notice. The doctor refused to pay for my wasted transportation. I have gone elsewhere for treatment.

Response from the owner11 months ago
Katheryn, we understand the importance of your time and difficulty with mobility, and we sincerely apologize for the oversight. Patient care is our top priority, and we regret any frustration caused. We would like to address this matter further to ensure it doesn't happen again and to discuss a resolution for your transportation cost. Please contact us at generalmailbox@meadowlarkpsych.com so we can better understand your situation and work towards a satisfactory resolution offline.

Their administrative staff is really not the best and when I spoke to the owner of the clinic about some of the issues I was encountering when trying to schedule or get a timely response to questions the focus seemed to be on trying to find a reason that my feedback wasn't applicable instead of trying to understand the problem.

Thank you for your feedback. We always try to use reviews as a means of improving the treatment experience at meadowlark. If you would like to talk about your onboarding experience in more detail please contact the management team.

The doctor I m seeing is amazing; no concerns there. But that office staff is trash. Maybe they were desperate to hire folks because nothing about my interactions with them says human services. In all of my phone conversations, it feels like I m an inconvenience to the person on the other line. I pray to God no one in a real crisis calls the office first because there is nothing kind about the tone they have.At the end of my last appointment, I returned to the window to schedule my next appointment. The person behind the glass told me that my doctor had already scheduled me for my monthly follow up. I returned today for my follow up, only to learn after sitting in the waiting room for 20 minutes (after a staff came from behind the window and asked my name and doctor) only to learn that I was not scheduled to have an appointment. I took off work and drove 47 minutes (one way) for a big helping of disappointment. The past two times I ve been in the waiting room, it wasn t exactly a HIPPA violation, but I learned so much about the other patients as their doctors came out to greet them. The one girl (elementary school age), she s having some challenges in school, and the guardian has her suspicion on what the root cause is. There is also an email that was discussed; the doctor will be following up with her on it later.Another patient, a boy (13, I believe), was shy to speak but introductions of himself and his mother were all done in front of everyone in the waiting room. I know his name and his mom s name. I don t know that boy s story, but I remember being in his position; afraid to speak, especially in front of new people. I don t believe that it was intentional, but I felt embarrassed for him. The big brother in me wanted to hug that boy and tell him that he was ok. A simple, reassuring head nod that, though this was an uncomfortable situation in front of all these people, he would (hopefully) be ok.I ll continue to go to Meadowlark as long as my doctor is there, but that office staff, they can kick rocks in flip flops. My goal is to have as little interaction with them as possible, and remember to follow up with them two days prior to my appointments to make sure I m actually scheduled for the date and time I was told at the window.
