About Mayo Clinic Health System

The Mayo Clinic Health System is renowned for their advanced specialties and one of their many facilities is this outpatient clinic in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. Their psychology and psychiatry department help with any number of mental health issues and that includes addiction recovery. They accept most insurance plans here but they also have financial assistance available if you can’t afford your treatment.

The treatment here is all outpatient. This level of care is typically best if you have a mild drug and alcohol addiction or if you have already completed more intensive programs like residential rehab or a partial hospitalization program. This is because the outpatient treatment gives you ongoing support and guidance but not around the clock supervision and access so you need to be fairly stable in your sobriety to benefit from this level of treatment.

The care here is mostly individual therapy and group therapy. They use evidence based techniques like dialectical behavior therapy to help you work through the challenges of recovery and also the issues that might make your sobriety more difficult like emotional issues or past traumas.

One of the things this clinic is best known for is their mental health care so they can be a good choice if you have co occurring mental illness. They can also do comprehensive assessments to find out if there’s an underlying mental health condition that affects your addiction.

Clients here say that they love the quality of care they receive. At the same time though they do say that some of the administrative processes are frustrating and time consuming like getting prescription approvals.

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

substance-abuse iconSubstance Abuse

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Mayo Clinic is the worst clinic I have ever gone to. The employees there don t want to go out of their way to help you. They seem like they don t want to work or be helpful in anyway. I was referred to by a Mayo doctor to go to their pain clinic. The pain clinic denied me because I was a patient a long time ago at another pain clinic. What sense does this make? The fact they can treat people like this is terrible. When you make a complaint, they refer you to the office called patient experience. That office is a joke. All they can do is relay your frustration with the department you have an issue with. I can t talk with a supervisor any where. I can t talk to the person who denied me from going to the pain clinic. What a terrible place to go. I m extremely disappointed in the Mayo Clinic and will never go back there. They need to do better and treat patients better.

I have to say this is the first time that I have reviewed any place. The standard of care that mayo clinic provides is outstanding. I have had years of experience with Mayo Clinic and think that they are the best place to receive medical treatment. However, that being said, the hell that we have to go through on a monthly basis to get a prescription wrote is horrendous. Almost every single month, we have to contact them to have the doctor sign a prescription and almost every month it is the same hassle. they didn't get around to sign it. This inevitably leads to us waiting around until they get a chance to sign a piece of paper, i can pick it up and drive it two blocks away to get the prescription filled. By this time, the medication from the month before is gone. My wife and I have taken off work, rearranged our schedules and waited around all day for them to "get the time" to sign the prescription. I have complained to the clinic and the complaint line and have seen no improvement. I am all about being understanding, but when the poor service reoccurs for YEARS, my patience wears out.
