09/20/2024 by LARA - (1 out of 5 Stars)My son was traveling out of town and got sick in Fairmont, Minnesota. At the time he called to get an appointment, he was running a fever of 103- coughing- mental clarity was not sharp, weak and very ill. The phone service of the Mayo Clinic said that the closest facility was an hour drive away. He drove himself in the rain and was seen. Rebecca Thorston did not give him a needed xray, did not check to see which sort of pneumonia he had with either a blood test or nasal test, she just said that he had Comunity Aquired Pneumonia and told him to take Bactrim. Bactrim did nothingDoes Bactrim cover Mycoplasma pneumoniae?Medication SummaryBeta-lactams, sulfonamides, and trimethoprim are not effective against M pneumoniae.Sep 7, 2024 -Bactrim is for another type of Pneumonia and does not treat this type., so she cost him 4 more days of being sick with pneumonia which progressively got worse and he was eventually hospitalized in Iowa thanks to Rebecca Thorston being incompetant. My son repeatedly asked to have a chest xray taken to confirm her diagnosis and she didnot comply and said she did not have to. Rebecca A Thorston did not follow protocal by even doing a blood test or sputum test to see which sort of pneumonia he had. It was just her suspicion and guess what he had. He was later rushed via ambulance to a hospital in Iowa where he had traveled to they took xrays, took multiple blood samples and nasal swap to confirm MYCOPLASMA PNEUMONIA. He was admtted to this hospital for a few days. I also had a conversation on the phone with her that evening and asked her simple questions. Her reply was extremely rude, basically thinking that it was funny that I was even asking these questions. The conversation was recorded so you can most likely find it in your files. I do not recommend this facility nor this practiioner. Totally unprofessional and took advantage of a situatlon.. One star rating doesnt even come close to an honest opinion. Why should anyone want to pay the bill when they can't even provide the proper medication? Especially for pneumonia

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

monthly iconMonthly

Per session payment lets you pay for each treatment at the time of service. You may also pay for a certain number of sessions up front and then pay for more if needed. This format allows you to tailor the financial investment to your specific needs and avoid having a large lump sum payment due at the end of the treatment program.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
They offer a range of outpatient services in the least restrictive care for adults and adolescents experiencing alcohol and other drug problems. Brief screenings are available for the individual or family member questioning what step to take next and a comprehensive chemical use assessment is completed to determine level of care. Once enrolled in the intensive outpatient program, treatment plans are individualized to meet the unique needs of each participant.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Recovery support groups meet once weekly and are facilitated by a trained volunteer. Relapse group meetings are held once weekly and are open to participants of Fountain Centers treatment programs, the recovering community at large, and individuals referred from other service agencies. A Fountain Centers staff member is present to provide education and support. Telephone Recovery Support is a service provided for individuals completing Fountain Centers residential or extended care programs. As an alumnus of the program or simply a concerned person for recovery, join the LIFE Club Alumni Association and benefit from quarterly newsletters with up-to-date program and staff information as well as recovery-related activities that are occurring around the state.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient programs are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs. Once enrolled in the intensive outpatient program, treatment plans are individualized to meet the unique needs of each participant

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug addiction is defined as an inability to stop using drugs even though it causes negative consequences in your life. Drug rehab in Minnesota provides treatment for drug addiction in a variety of settings including inpatient treatment and outpatient treatment.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
postpartum-program thumbnail image
Postpartum Program
The postpartum period is a sensitive time, especially for women in addiction recovery. Rehabs with specialized programs for new mothers will offer compassionate, personalized care to meet each client's needs as they transition from pregnancy to this season of life. Care teams may include obstetricians, pediatricians, and social workers working collaboratively to give women, children, and families a healthy future.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Eating disorders include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating, and dysfunctional eating patterns. Many psychologists and other mental health professionals consider eating disorders to be food addictions, meaning food is being used in an addictive way (similar to drug or alcohol addiction). Certain substance abuse treatment programs will have treatment for eating disorders as one of the services offered. An eating disorder may also present as a co-occuring disorder or dual diagnosis alongside drug and alcohol addiction.

EMDR is a therapeutic modality originally developed to help process trauma. In an EMDR session, a patient is prompted to undergo eye movements that mimic those of REM sleep. This is accomplished by watching a therapist's finger move back and forth across, or following a bar of light. The goal is repetitive sets of eye movements that help the brain reprocess memory, which can significantly reduce the intensity of remembered traumatic incidents. Associated memories can heal simultaneously, leaving patients significantly calmer, more stable, and more emotionally relaxed.

They consider family involvement an essential part of our treatment program. They believe it is critical for people in early recovery to have positive support systems in their life. They know that addiction impacts not only the individual, but the family too and therefore working on forgiveness, communication skills, building trust and understanding the issues that may interfere with recovery for both the addict and the family member is addressed while the patient is still in treatment.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety. The life coach works with the whole person, taking the time to listen to concerns and asking powerful questions to help motivate you in your desire to make and sustain changes. Through coaching, you are empowered to reach your highest level of physical, emotional and spiritual health.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

This is one of the worst experience I've have had at a Mayo Clinic. The nurses took a lot of time to see me even after I told them that my son was having a crisis and needed urgent care. The doctor also never showed up.

Utterly disgusted in the push for profit over the care for me as the patient. After visiting the ER, and letting me know orders for PT were needed, they would not send the orders outside the Mayo system to make things more convenient and closer to my residence. This has led to delays in getting PT scheduled. They followed up with a call to get me to switch my primary care provider to one of their not even 24 hours after leaving the ER. I'm now a week into injury with no scheduled appointment for PT. This is borderline malpractice and unethical.

Just moved here from the cities. Absolutely horrible GI doctors. My husband has an active GI bleed with strong family history of can cancer. I can't get them to do a colonoscopy! They sent us home with no directions. Also has critical lab values. Followup up the end of August! What do I do?

They don t take patients in pain seriously. You are asked to schedule appointments and then they want another follow up appointment that s 2 months apart. I have been arguing with the mayo system since Jan of 2023. If you are willing to wait till you re at your Witt s end then this is the place you would want. Mayo health systems suck!!!!!!! They treat their patients like a bunch of junkies.

Mayo Clinic helped me save my life! The day leading up to my admittance to the psych unit was an intense one. I had stopped using Meth, Alcohol, Marijuana and nicotine the day before after my now-ex had beaten me. I woke up that morning and went to hang out with my friend. We grabbed coffee, ate, hung out at her shop, and we enjoyed several hours just spending time together.I knew that at some point that I had to go back to my captor. I had nowhere else to go, I was on drugs, and my friends didn't help me try to find something else to do. It was a day, much like the last 7 months. My captor called me telling me that he was grabbing my laundry and if I would go grab it with him. I reluctantly said yes, and my friend dropped me off at his venue. I waited for him, just hoping that I could have a nap (after being screamed at the entire night before), but he showed up early. We went to the laundromat, and I grabbed my laundry and threw it in the basket in the back of his truck, and I was yelled at the entire time. We went back to the venue because he had to go to the bathroom. I knew that this might be the only time that I could leave. I grabbed my jacket and my purse and left with the clothes on my back.I called the Suicide Hotline, and I called local hotels, and my friends. I asked them if I left tonight if they had a place for me to sleep. Everyone said no, except for my friend Asher, who said that I could check into an IRTZ facility that he was in.I walked around Mankato all that day until then with everyone asking me if I was okay. I kept lying, I didn't know what to do, and I was so broken. I was exhausted and trying to sleep in bushes to finally get some rest. I ate at Nolabelle Kitchen and Bar, and finally went to the IRTZ Facility. My friend hung out with me until I could do an intake. I did the intake and sat. At midnight I got referred to the South Central Crisis Team, because I needed a higher level of care.I went to the South Central Crisis Center and did an intake there. I heard that a person before me got rejected because they were full. I cut myself, because I wasn't sure if they would take me seriously. I didn't want to go back to where I was. In the end they brought me to Mayo Clinic's Emergency Room, and were in the process of finding me a psychiatric unit to go to. I made up a story, so my ex wouldn't go searching for me everywhere and bring me back to his place.I lied and said that my parents reported me for doing drugs, and that I was in the Albert Lea Psych Unit, because they were the only one with beds open, and my parents requested that I be institutionalized. It was a lie to buy myself time, and space away for him that seemed compliant yet fit within a realm of believability. The next day I was admitted to the Mankato Psych Unit. I told my captor, because I still wasn't sure of what to do, or how I would escape. I figured that this would placate him, so I had more time. An "involuntary 72 hour hold" turned into a 10 day stay. He would walk into the psych unit every day with work papers for me to work on while I was there, and threaten the nurses in charge that he was going to break me out.I'm so grateful for the daily scheduled activities. I appreciate the community of people that were there during my time. The staff was mostly helpful, I wish that I had been able to attend my online meditation group. My spirituality is of great comfort to me and that would have really helped. My doctors kept asking me about going to an inpatient facility for my drug use. I kept thinking to myself that I didn't have a drug problem and that I had finally used drugs right, and I thought that up until the last day before I left.I was handed a stack of inpatient papers about each facility. Pride was of course first on the list, but it was two weeks to just get a phone interview. The second most appealing inpatient was Latitudes. I left for Latitudes the next day. Thank you Mayo for helping me save my life. In three days I will have nine months clean and living my best life in Minneapolis!!!

I was seen in the Er for allergic reaction to an anabiotic, it took the Mankato GI department 8 days to get me something. They completely ignored all calls and portal messages come in asking about a new antibiotic. They didn t do a thing until the 8th day when I had called and put in a complaint. Then harassed me through my portal telling me it was not an emergency and I should trust that their Dr had my best interest in mind. Which I never stated it was I just want anabiotic to replace the anabiotic that I was taken off of that I was allergic to that s all. Mayo at it finest!!!!! I m sick I don t have time or patience to deal with them anymore and will be do all my future medical at Mankato Clinic! Thank you Mayo for all the extra medical bonus errors through the years you have added to my plate my only regret I should left the Mayo years ago!
