About Mayo Clinic Health System Faribault — Fountain Centers

Mayo Clinic Health System Faribault — Fountain Centers serves adults and their families battling substance use problems in Faribault, Minnesota. Their program is built on the principles of respect, dignity, and current scientific research. Here, patients can safely discuss their substance use issues and the circumstances surrounding them in a supportive outpatient environment.

During outpatient treatment, patients acquire the abilities and methods required to succeed in the community at work and at home. To guarantee that they address the needs and concerns that are most important to the patients, treatment plans are customized and developed in collaboration with the patients. Their treatment programs are based on the traditions of cognitive behavioral therapy and motivational enhancement with a focus on relapse prevention skills education.

They encourage 12 step recovery and incorporate its tenets into their therapeutic offerings. Every week, a volunteer with training leads their recovery support groups. Although a referral from one of the treatment programs offered by the center is not required, group participants usually come from those programs. Participation is advised for at least a year.

The goal of their employees is to support individuals in leading active healthy lives. Everything they do is based on their core value which is that the patient’s needs come first. Anyone coming out of drug abuse is welcome to join their relapse group. Every meeting has a staff member in attendance to offer guidance and assistance.

They provide phone assistance for recovery. Participants in our residential or extended care programs are eligible for this service. After discharge, there is phone contact and continued support available. Clients can access this service at critical points in their recovery, including one week and one month after completing the program. They can also access it three, six, nine, and 12 months later.

I had appointment to meet with a real doctor today for some sever pain. Had two back surgeries in the past six months. My doctor I was meeting with in cannons falls left and they have no one to continue my care that my previous doctor was managing. They told me to get in asap with a new primary and I got in at the Faribault location and met with a Cassandra Miles-Hanson, and she was the rudest person iv ever met. Did not want to listen to my story or anything I had to say. I wasn t told I d even be meeting with this lady. I m not sure why she was even there today. I was told I was meeting with my new primary care. Casandra was terrible and made me feel terrible for even being there today. I ll never go back here again and am strongly considering leaving Mayo completely now.

Highly incompetent phone service, I don t even think they know how the Faribault clinic operates. Plus I doubt they know anything about Epic orders. They give so much misinformation to patients, this needs to stop! They tell you you can come in and take no responsibility when they waste your time for a lab with no orders.

Absolutely stay away from this clinic. When making an account to be connected to my minors the front desk woman used a patient with a similar name to create my account. Giving me access to their personal information for months. After looking closely and realizing this myself I contacted customer care. The woman in the lab took blood from my 18 month old. My child wouldn't stop bleeding afterward. She said she couldn't give me a band-aid. She held a gauze to it for a minute. It wouldn't stop. She told me she thought it'd be fine and motioned for me to leave. I wasn't comfortable leaving with my child bleeding. She seemed uncomfortable and overwhelmed by not knowing what to do. I finally just walked out with my child still bleeding bc she didn't really know what to do. My family of five just recently moved to the area and we were looking to establish care. I made a a yearly physical apt for myself after one of my children saw a pediatrician. Upon the NP entering the room, she looked at me with a shocked and upset look, asking me if I knew her. I said no. She began talking to herself and disregarded some of my responses to the things she was saying. It was a very cold interaction in which I felt like a lab animal she was studying rather a human she cared for. I learned she wasn't going to perform a pap smear at this apt bc she stated with new patients they don't do this and that we would just be speaking about history to establish me as a patient and then I would have to return for the pap smear. She seemed to be dismissive of my list of concerns. Between the abrupt cold interactions with her and finding out I wouldn't even have a physical I was upset to be having to return for the actual physical check. Thankfully broached me seeing someone else in the clinic. I agreed and went to the desk to make a new apt. After crying and being urged by the staff at the desk to make a complaint to patient experience I did. I received a letter letting me know what they had decided, which is below. I called billing to see what they felt was correct for the apt as the front desk stated I probably wouldn't be charged bc I was in the room or all of 10 minutes. Billing acted as if I was the enemy. She stated the provider had spoken to me and taken my vitals which according to them constitutes a physical. They charged me $230. I told her I thought it was ridiculous that they were charging me $230 when I never had a physical. In the letter and according to billing bc I had a list of things I wanted to discuss that ruined me having a pap smear. Which isn't what I was told during the apt. The woman in billing told me to look at my chart if I wanted and that there was an apparent "behavioral" issue during the apt and I was walked out. As a licensed and certified practitioner myself I hope I absolutely never make a patient feel this way. And I doubly hope I never work in a clinic that charts false information for monetary dominance. I am thankful to my old clinic and will be glad to make the 40 minute drive for warm, respectful, open care where I'm heard and not lied about. I hope the NP i saw that day finds the love in her heart she needs. As a provider to patient care myself i'm at a complete loss of words for the interaction with the NP and the way the clinic has chosen to handle this. Mutual respect has not been given, let alone quality honest care. This was not the care I assumed I'd receive from a clinic associated with the prestige of Mayo. I'm thankful for the experience which showed me I definitely never want my family, friends, or me to receive care via this chain again.****Requested my chart notes. Provider stated phrases, events, and behaviors I did not say or showcase. Absolutely stear clear. Provider claims I was belligerent and disrespectful. Although I somehow managed to in my "uncooperative, agitated and aggressive" state agree with the provider and walked out with no issues to schedule with another provider. I have no words. Go to Northfield Clinic instead. Provider sat with me for an hour and made me feel safe and heard.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive Outpatient programs are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs. Once enrolled in the intensive outpatient program, treatment plans are individualized to meet the unique needs of each participant.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Rehab aftercare programs provide robust, wraparound care for clients who have completed detox and/or intensive inpatient rehab. Their services may vary widely, but typically include peer coaching, relapse prevention support, 12 step program induction, career counseling, and related community reintegration services. The client's case manager and recovery team coordinates with the client to identify the rehab aftercare services they need to promote their sustained sobriety.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
24-hour icon24-Hour Clinical Care
At certain points in the recovery process, it's important to have support available 24/7. 24-hour clinical care offers a safe environment in which to recover from drug or alcohol addiction in peace, knowing medical detox and other treatment will happen with professionals on hand.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug addiction is defined as an inability to stop using drugs even though it causes negative consequences in your life. Drug rehab in Minnesota provides treatment for drug addiction in a variety of settings including inpatient treatment and outpatient treatment.

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Motivational Interviewing (MI) is a clinical approach to helping people with substance abuse issues and other conditions shift behavior in positive ways. It is more goal-oriented than traditional psychotherapy, as MI counselors directly attempt to get clients to consider making behavioral change (rather than wait for them to come to conclusions themselves). Its primary purpose is to resolve ambivalence and help clients become able to make healthy choices freely.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

For a successful recovery, life skills training is key. That's why rehab programs in Minnesota include training in social skills, self care, time management, financial management, and other daily life skills. By growing in these areas, you'll gain tools that allow you to navigate challenges and avoid relapse.

Substance abuse leads to poor dietary choices and vitamin deficiencies. To address these issues, many drug rehab programs in Minnesota include nutrition therapy. You'll learn about the right foods to eat to support recovery and develop a plan for long term success.

Nicotine replacement therapy in Minnesota addresses physical dependence on nicotine. Paired with support systems to address the psychological aspects of dependence, they can be an effective tool to help you quit smoking. Options include nasal sprays, inhalers, gum, and lozenges.

Well unfortunately I would give this place zero stars if I could. Not to mention phone options are horrible and unnecessary. I had a c section and preemie baby the 14th so just a few days ago. The Mayo Rochester hospital advised that my baby HAS to be seen on Monday for a check up appointment. I wanted to do something closer in town so I didn t have to travel far with how small she is, she s about 4 pounds or less right now, and my primary care could only see her in Chanhassen today so I called Mayo so they could see the baby and do her check up today instead. I sat on the phone for almost two hours, got transferred and then I was helped by someone who couldn t get through their lines to see why I couldn t get any help which was very frustrating. I eventually was told that I would a receive a call back once they figured out what was going on. They advised they saw my note in the system that my daughter had to be seen right away due to her size and her being newborn. I was then told that since her primary care will not be Mayo that they refused to see my newborn daughter for a necessary check up, and to look elsewhere. Yes, I repeat they REFUSED to see my newborn premature baby. I could not believe they would refuse service to newborns, or anyone for that matter pretty unethical

Very upset that you guys changed the phone options you now have to enter your date of birth and I have been on hold for way to long and can't even get to the department I need.. They answer and say we will transfer you they do but then it starts asking me for my date of birth again and I keep going around and around in circles Very frustrating and so much harder then it was before....

I have to say that their services could use some improvement for managing patient care. Due to issues it took weeks to move forward on a pain related item. Long time to manage such a harsh item.
