Mathers saved my life but I can't say there weren't a few bumps in the road but things that were out of the control of the clinic for the most part (lab). I go to the clinic, have therapy through mathers as well as see Aleen Shah for medication management. Aleen is the best of the best and not only has compassion but has helped me in ways I never thought we're possible. Not to mention she has an amazing personality which is always a plus! Steve who is now a counselor in fox Lake clinic and came from Elgin is the best counselor I could ever ask for I find myself stopping in to chat and catch up even when life is good and i dont have a stop. They have made so many positive changes compared to when I saw them in the early 2000s and hope people see current reviews. They saved my life and can save yours too! And I'm slowly tapering down and it's at your pace but it's discussed which says a lot about the facility and not just being about cash flow.

I have been going to Mathers clinic for many years with a few breaks in between. I believe I first started going to Mathers in 2008/09. Could have been earlier. So, I feel as though I have a unique perspective to offer my opinion on Mathers Clinic having seen its evolution over many years. And let me tell you has it evolved. And in the best of ways. The Staff even in the last two years has changed but since what I would call its "rebirth" no matter who I dealt with they were polite. But at the moment of this review I have found what I have not found in 30 years of mental health treatment. And that Is I feel welcome. I feel heard. And I feel like im getting better mental health treatment now than even when I was paying out of pocket for high cost specialists. The friendly staff environment and calm atmosphere helps your mood. Its clean and well kept. And no one has ever added stress to my day. It truly is a new place all around. But I have to give a mention to the biggest positive change in Mathers Clinic and that has been my experience with Dr. Aleen Shah. I have never liked talking to psychiatrists. Seeing a new Doctor after seeing one for a long period of time would need to adjust. But for the first time since being a child, I actually have a Doctor I trust. And I have never had that. And I would say that if anyone has a negative experience with this clinic or any of its staff that to look within first. And see if you are investing in yourself what Mathers and its staff are willing to invest in you. Because I will admit I don't always like what I hear. Or get the answer I hoped for. But in the end I had to realize that I need to work on myself in between sessions. Take time to self reflect and make a true attempt at following the advice and being completely honest and transparent. If you can do that Mathers can work wonders for you. I've been through so much in my life. More than most could bare. I felt alone. Mathers is now the first and only place I would recommend to anyone. I may not know all the staff but I know enough of them to know that they all care. And they all have their way of doing things. But that is the beauty. You can find someone who can reach you. And I truly believe they are the best at what they do. And if you put the work into yourself I believe you will feel the same. - T. Moran

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in Illinois is designed to help people recover from addiction to a number of substances. The length of each program and its intensity tend to vary, and the plan of care is based on your individual needs.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

Mathers was a great experience for me, from day one until the day I left. The staff is very understanding and helpful which is hard to find in today's health care industry. I would highly recommend them to anyone. Thanks for being so supportive and professional.

I can not speak for the practice as a whole, as I have had poor history with them in the past but A.Shah is awesome! Never before have I had a better mental health professional of any kind. She is very caring for her patients, knows what is actually going on in your life, communicates great, and has never left me hanging with email or returning a phone call. If you are going to give Mathers a try, try to get in with her. Really you wont be disappointed.

I started going to this clinic around the middle of 2023 and have had nothing but great interactions with staff. Frankly, I'm a bit moody and can get on edge fast when I feel like I have been disrespected, but the Mathers Clinic always has worked with me to figure out co-pays and other insurance issues. I've been quick to be snappy and then nervous to be apologetic, but I've never had issues. My counselor is amazing. Won't put their name here because I don't want them to get any more patients. I'm working on being less selfish, but clearly I have an issue.Anyways, I have been to TOO many clinics in my life. Most places seem to take you in if your insurance is accepted, and just put you in the system as a customer (basically). I've had nothing but progress and success with Mathers. They have worked with me, shown a ton of empathy and patience when I get fussy and overall I cannot say anything more than -- I highly recommend this clinic.I was scanning the reviews, and I don't really think my experience aligns with them. I have had professional experience, and to be honest I'm not even familiar with Mathers being "money grubbing". But my experience might be different than others patients too. It's hard for me to give a review overall since I only see one of their professionals on a regular; but I wanted to review this because my counselor is amazing and I want them to know that I don't just say that during our appointments but I truly mean it.5/5 would recommend, and 6/5 would recommend with rice.

Do yourself a favor and go to Woodstock location and see Irina. She is the best. She is so easy to talk to and you will definitely take something away with you and feel better when the session is through!

I have been receiving therapy with Irina at the Woodstock location and it has been amazing. I look forward to my sessions every week. The staff has been extremely helpful throughout the whole process. They make me feel heard, they are very professional and respectful. I never liked the idea of therapy but my experience has been very beneficial and changed my prospective. I would highly recommend.

This place is a complete joke. Aleen has to be one of the most unprofessional nurse practitioners I ve ever seen. Lying in court letters for patients, inappropriate Communication with patients and no desire to get patients sober, just an absolute hot mess at this place. If you want pills that will ruin your life, this is your go to place.
