Avenues was my 3rd treatment center that I ve been to and hopefully my last. Just to get it out of the way it s not the Ritz Carlton by any means but the place is well taken care of and comfortable considering it holds up to 49 men and women in three different buildings. There s a gym with some amenities to get a good workout in and they feed us very well. What more do you need?Honestly I can say so many wonderful things about this place but I ll try to keep it short and sweet. Most of the staff were extremely helpful and caring. They truly do care, and it shows. Most of them have been in treatment themselves and understand the disease of addiction first hand. The groups were always informative and engaging and counseling is offered as well. What really stood out to me and made my treatment experience different from the others was the other clients. The camaraderie between us all was something I had never experienced in my life and made me feel a part of. The bonds that I created were genuine and for the first time in my life I felt accepted. The opposite of addiction is connection and I found just that at Avenues. I felt for the first time that I could just be myself, my true authentic self, and everyone accepted me and loved me for who I was and where I was at.Karaoke Sundays were the highlight of my week. To be real it was my first time doing Karaoke! They say to stay sober you gotta do things you ve never done and it starts with getting out of your comfort zone and being vulnerable.HERE S THE MOST IMPORTANT PARTYou will get back exactly what you put in and if you choose to just let those walls down and let others see you, you will be OK.They also offer an Alumni program so when you graduate and get out you can stay connected with others who have graduated and are on the path of recovery. You can get involved with a bunch of different activities and get togethers which are all free!I realize I m not alone anymore and I can t say how grateful I am for that. I spent eight weeks at Blue Hills Recovery (Residential PHP) My experience was very very good. I can say that after reflecting on the person who was admitted and the person who finished and the difference it made. I mean as far as the way I felt and my ability to have a daily program, to talk about things going on my life much easier , having a little more discipline, and definitely more confidence in myself. I owe much of this to the therapeutic and community oriented program at Blue Hills. Last , but definitely not least is the staff members that were very kind to me and carried themselves as mental health professionals should (I write this as someone who s been in several programs) Jodi (clinical director) and Montana (program director) Bless you both for your patience with me and the help you gave me. I highly and fully recommend to all who have been a domestic violence abuser, past or present, to partake in this vital & crucial program. If interested (and if not already court ordered), contact Maureen Casey here @ Spectrum to learn more about PAVE and other programs Spectrum has (specifically for anger management is one example). This place has been great! During Covid I was stuck with a terrible nurse who happened to be a fill-in after my wonderful long term psychiatrist had retired. The fill-in nurse literally had no knowledge of psychiatry (but had been in a hospital setting for many years prior, and therefore should've had some knowledge about prescribing medication and all that entails.) During the 9 years that I was with my original psychiatrist/therapist, it took us the first two through lots of trial and error to figure out what medications and treatment plans worked best for me. (This was no easy feat either, due to the first 16 years of my life being filled with intense and severe trauma. I experienced every form of abuse imaginable, including prolonged torture amongst several other unpleasant things.) So, my mental health &treatment plans are quite extensive and need to be thoroughly regulated. Despite knowing all of this, along with the fact that I had been stable for the last 7 years I was with my prior Dr., this new nurse lady took it upon herself to cut my anxiety and adhd meds in half immediately (no tapering) and changed my depression medication because, 'she had read this one worked better for people like "me."' All of this During the very first year of covid, no-less, when the entire World was anxious and depressed. I cried every single time I had to meet with her, each time I tried to plead with her to let me go back to the medication routine that had been keeping me stable for so many years before having to meet her, no such luck. I was stuck with her for a full year before I found The New England Center and I cannot tell you how good it felt to express tears of joy after my first time meeting with Michael Pizza! He actually listened to me, he actually cared- and boy, what a whole World of difference that makes! I've been here for 3 years now and I am still receiving a highly skilled level of care! I strongly recommend The New England Center for Healthy minds!
