I was attempting to contact Northpoint Recovery Centers, a great place I had been previously, and was somehow connected to recruiters for Seaside... In the state I was in, it wasn't until after I had given all my information, that I learned I was talking to a recruiter, who recruits for locations in California... Similar to another review on here, I was told this was a dual diagnosis facility, and I would have access to a gym, surf lessons, and the doctor four days per week, on top of a prescribing psychiatrist to name a few...Well the doctor would only see us once a week (he accommodated two days due to the information I was fed), and the psychiatrist never even came to the house in my 30 day stay, but prescribed over the phone after talking to the nurse. I don't even think this is legal. There was NO counselor, no psychiatrist on-site, barely even a cook around, minimal access to the doctor, and because there was no counselor, there was also hardly any structured groups. On top of this, we had to practically beg the staff to try to take us to AA meetings, but the kicker is, since they are always trying to bring in new people, and those people have to detox for 7 days, they often don't have the needed staff to take their patients (referred to as "clients" in California - let that one sink in) off site for any sort of recovery activities. Also, there is no facility vehicle, leaving the staff to utilize their personal vehicles to drive their 'clients' around in, which is a huge liability, and often did not work logistically, as we could not fit everyone in the house into one car, so people would either have to stay behind, or we simply could not go anywhere. The icing on the cake, was when I was dropped off at the airport, I missed my flight due to my ride from the facility being late, leaving a freshly recovering alcoholic alone in an airport for HOURS, until I could catch a standby flight... I tried contacting the facility, to no avail... I didn't drink in the airport, but I essentially relapsed directly after getting home, something I have NEVER done before, as I have always been able to put together sober time upon leaving rehab... But not this place. With this being my fourth rehab experience, I could go on and on about all the things that were wrong about this place. I would advise anyone considering going here to look elsewhere. I know rehabs ultimately have to turn a profit to operate, but in this place, I literally just felt like an insurance check. Stay away.

Unfortunately when I called the 800 number for Cottage Hospital we were somehow referred to Malibu Seaside Serenity Cove as being more one on one individualized treatment and able to treat a duel diagnosis. The experience my child had was not what is advertised online, nor was it ran by a doctor, there is a psychologist whom refers to himself as the doctor, but we know they are unable to prescribe medication. I m not sure how this company is able to siphon potential patients for Cottage Hospital, but I warn you this is far below par for parents expecting the care Cottage has and treatment options. The staff was not properly trained, and my child didn t feel safe or comfortable with the staff who were not in any way medically affiliated. Medication being administered by non professionals without a prescription for the individual is highly illegal and unethical. Be cautious where you call, as your child may end up in the care of another company far below the standards of the company whom you originally intended to call.A WARNING TO ALL PARENTS CALLING THE COTTAGE HOSPITAL ONLINE TELEPHONE NUMBER

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
12-step icon12-Step
12-step programs are addiction recovery models based on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). A number of substance abuse programs (including some drug and alcohol rehab centers) use the 12 steps as a basis for treatment. Beginning steps involve admitting powerlessness over the addiction and creating a spiritual basis for recovery. Middle steps including making direct amends to those who've been hurt by the addiction, and the final step is to assist others in addiction recovery in the same way. 12-Step offshoots including Narcotics Anonymous (NA), Cocaine Anonymous (CA), Dual Recovery Anonymous (DRA), Sex and Love Addicts Anonymous (SLAA) and Gamblers Anonymous (GA).
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

Drug rehab in California teaches participants constructive ways to stay clean and sober. Treatment revolves around helping individuals stop using the substance they are addicted to and learn healthy habits to avoid relapse.

Opioid rehabs specialize in supporting those recovering from opioid addiction. They treat those suffering from addiction to illegal opioids like heroin, as well as prescription drugs like oxycodone. These centers typically combine both physical as well as mental and emotional support to help stop addiction. Physical support often includes medical detox and subsequent medical support (including medication), and mental support includes in-depth therapy to address the underlying causes of addiction.

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Equine therapy, aka equine-assisted therapy (EAT), is a form of experiential therapy that involves interactions and activities with horses. It does not necessarily involve riding horses, but all activities related to horses, such as feeding, grooming, haltering and leading them. A mental health professional frequently oversees the activities (often in conjunction with a horse professional), and helps patients process their thoughts, feelings, and behavior patterns during and/or after the interaction.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Fitness therapy blends exercise with psychotherapy for a fun, inspiring, and effective way of treating addiction and other issues. By incorporating movement into counseling sessions, clients become more empowered, motivated, and goal-oriented, all while strengthening their bodies and becoming more flexible. Fitness Therapy is usually used to complement a course of treatment (inpatient or outpatient) to make it even more successful. Increasing the connection between a patient’s mind and body helps both with healing as well as in creating new, healthy habits.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

My wife found this place on line. We called and they where top notch caring from the beginning. The thing is we live in Virginia! I flew my wife out there for help getting off prescription drugs. Her first day there she ended up in the hospital. The staff at Seaside made sure she was picked up from the hospital even though they found out they where out of network for our insurance. They took her back in from the hospital 2 times with the knowledge that they may be doing it for free! That is caring. They worked with me to get her the councelling that she needed from them. She came home a different woman and drug free! I can't express in words how good that we both feel about Malibu Seaside! They are GREAT. Maybe we will both go back to visit but not for treatment this time. They are like a new extended family.

My experience at Malibu was amazing, the facility was beautiful very clean and neat and very cozy. The staff were very knowledgeable about recovery and addiction over all. I have gained a lot of wise wisdom and knowledge for the duration of my stay. I definitely would recommend Malibu to a friend who is struggling with active addiction. I truly miss everyone there.

Malibu took me in as there own. The most understand staff who became family to me. They taught so much in the short time I was there. Their level of care 5 star. All the Staff have done their time in addiction and live their sobriety. It's a rehab for those who truly want sobriety and life change. Something unreal happens their if you honestly put the work in. You
