Everyone we met was very nice. Very helpful. The new Malone Family Tower is beautiful. Rooms are large and comfortable. Let's talk food!!! It's awful!!!The only thing that is good is the chef salad of the hospital menu. Burger is fake meat, flat bread pizza was cardboard looking & tasting , breakfast potatoes are trying to over compensate for no salt. Just plain awful!!!Its a pity to have this great beautiful place and serve nasty food. Really the only things that were good, were not made there. Fresh veggies.

I was seen in the Emergency room today. I have always had decent nurses but the woman I had today was an awesome nurse. She deserves to be recognized. I hate being in the hospital but she talked to me about my kids and made conversation while putting in my IV. She didn t make me wait forever for meds when I was in pain. I think she goes above and beyond to make sure her patients are comfortable. Her name is Grace and if you have her for a nurse I hope you treat her respectfully as she does to her patients

Maine Medical Center – Outpatient works with several private insurance providers and also accepts private payments when possible, please contact to verify your specific insurance provider.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

ECT is a form of treatment in which controlled electric currents are passed through the brain, sometimes causing short seizures. Treatments are done under general anesthesia. ECT appears to change brain chemistry for the better, and has been shown to provide fast and sometimes dramatic improvements in severe mental health conditions that can exist alongside addiction, including depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, and suicidality. ECT is also often used by those who prefer it to taking medication.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

What a terrible adventure doc didn't remove the problem through surgery they simply are way too young. They tried talking to me and did not makes scents. One nurse pressed on my burn/wound i had to tap her on the shoulder I was in tears and what does she do the very same thing right after that still. I asked for a complaint form and they must be omnipresent because they don't have forms!! So they must never makes mistakes. they constantly changed meds and i had to almost fight to get my Oxy script when the burn hurts through She wanted to me to use 1 a day, finally she said ten tabs i went down to fill it and she had changed it back to 8. Asking for meds is a huge deal I felt like I was a criminal. I will never go there for any procedure and will advise my family the same way. Among many other small arguments all day all night and totally made me feel mentally and physically ill at the same time happy to answer questions if it can help others

I had 2 different hospital stays for major surgeries between July and November of this year (2024). Both times, the bathrooms were dirty, and people were very slow to respond. Every time I went to the bathroom, I couldn't wait LONG times for someone to come in. I had to take my neighbor's toilet hats out and clean myself with a huge surgical incision in my body, putting me at risk for infection. Yes, that is BLOOD all over the sink and handles. In three days, the cleaning person only cleaned once. I LOVED my surgeon, though, and it makes me sad that I need to look for another surgeon because I NEVER want to have surgery in this hospital ever again!

My husband was lifeflighted to the hospital recently. As he was having a test done, I fainted. They not only took care of him but me also. When he passed away, they were very concerned and patient about mine, my daughter's and my young granddaughters wellbeing.I am so grateful for the Dr's and nurses who cared for us all.

It's amazing if you look at all the reviews with with 3 to 5 , has a response from Maine medical hospital (RARELY 3) anything less no response. Says alot about management!!!I was admitted to Maine medical center in Portland back in January 2024, my back doctor sent me there for surgery on my back because I was in so much pain. My back doctor who is also part of Maine Med. Do not take pain medication because of bad stomach, neuro surgeons refused to operate on me ( for the 3rd time in last 3 years) and proceed to drugged me up. I had a nurse who wrote on my board she was a doctor (took picture of it) mistreated me and falsified documents. She never examined me and then discharge me. I actually had to walk out of there with help from my wife. For the second time I had to go to Mercy hospital in Portland for surgery. They are absolutely amazing over there. I field a complaint with Maine med, with all the evidence and the responded back on 2/16/2024 saying the where looking into and would respond in approximately 30 days, today's date that I am writing this is 09/13/2024, have yet to hear from them. Filed a claim with medical board with all documents and prove of my claims. Watched meeting and was a total joke. Neuro surgeons at Maine medical are also a joke. Have had other surgery's there with out a problem, but I guess when you do have a problem they really don't. Wish I could post picture of the board where she wrote Dr Helen so everyone could see it. I would be careful going to this hospital. Just was discharge from Maine Med in Biddeford Maine about a week ago, was there for a week for brain swelling, they where unbelievable nice, everyone I came in contact with, call Maine Med to tell them what a wonderful job they did, don't think they would go down and give them a pat on the back. Beware!!! James Whitman

My husband had a fainting episode today , he fell from a standing position and hit his head on the road, he was transported here. Not sure who downgraded him and transferred him to a chair. EMS couldn't start a line on him to give him fluids. He was supposed to be started on fluids immediately he got to the hospital. No attempt was made to start him on fluids or do a CT scan on him.I tried to talk to the nurse Elyse, I was completely ignored. I went down to the patient access reps, they said you have to talk to the nurses. Okay which nurse should I talk to, they had no idea. I eventually talked to a nurse who listened and said she was busy with a patient and would come see him. Never saw her again.I had to do manual fluid resuscitation on my husband by giving him 500 ml of water praying that it would correct the fluid shift. We waited in the waiting room for at least 3 hours before he got any sort of tests done. For someone who had a vasovagal response, 3 hours is a long time to wait for fluids. It should have been started immediately he got there as well as the CT scan for hitting his head.As for the nurse Elyse, when a white woman went up to her and she suddenly had the time to have a conversation. I found that very unprofessional and racist. The doctor Laura was professional. The security was nice and helpful both the black lady and the white guy. That is why they get a 3 star.
