About Lexington Mental Health

Addiction and mental health care is a vital service that every community needs and you can’t always rely on private businesses to offer it consistently or affordably. That’s why Lexington, South Carolina has Lexington Mental Health. This is an outpatient treatment center for residents of Lexington County that’s operated by the South Carolina Department of Mental Health.

Your treatment here will be based on whatever it is that you need including drug and alcohol addiction recovery. You’ll have individual therapy but you’ll also have group therapy where you’ll be with other people who are recovering from addiction. They have family therapy as well to help you and your family understand how they can support your recovery.

Something about this treatment center that I think is most notable is the fact that they’re both an addiction treatment center and a mental health treatment center. If you’re one of the many people who has a co-occurring mental health condition alongside your addiction then they can treat that here as well and they can make sure your addiction counseling and mental health treatment work together. They have psychiatric care too which means they can provide mental health medications if needed.

This facility serves adults as well as kids and adolescents. They even have specialized services for kids and teens too like a juvenile justice program and services that coordinate with your child’s school.

While this treatment center does provide an important service that the community needs the feedback isn’t very good. I noticed a lot of clients saying that they felt the care here was lackluster and that they would have long wait times when they needed more urgent care like a follow-up after hospitalization. Several clients also say that the clinic often cancels appointments with little notice. A lot of the feedback seems to be typical of a public facility that doesn’t get all the funding it needs.

My 8 year old son who is autistic, has been a patient here for well over 2 years, the first doctor was a quack refused to meet in office refused to get my son the help he needed. Due to this we requested a new Dr.Which has been fine up until now my son had a mental health crisis to the point police was called and he was sent to the hospital to calm down. The Dr. at the hospital decided that he was fine to leave and to follow up with his psychologist immediately. Their idea of immediately is to keep his same normal scheduled appointment FROM A MONTH FROM NOW. With out any help or recommendations. This is a waste of government funding and always has been. They are not here to help. Needless to say I will be switching him to a new psychologist and therapy group immediately.

Rampant Medicaid fraud, and patient abuse. Inappropriate implementation of government mental health. They don't use medication for regular people, they have too much R&D medicine at they're disposal for troubled patients.A big waste to say no to pharmaceuticals they confuse with good buzz street drugs. The homebound medicines they prescribe to their patients applies to themselves must be overlooked by their Ill trained medical, and psychiatric personnel. They all seems to be rich, new age, Republican extremist "addiction specialists" only.It doesn't mean say no all the time, or even some of the time. Their jobs are in vain.

The communication from this place has been extremely disappointing. The constant rescheduling and cancellations are not only unprofessional but also concerning. They seem more focused on convincing you to fill your prescriptions through them than on providing quality care. The multiple counselors I had assigned to me acted with little empathy, consistently failing to remember our previous meetings or goals. As a result, I feel like my mental and emotional state has significantly worsened. Thanks LMH! TLDR: Don't bother coming here. Not until there is a culture change.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Sliding scale payments are based on a client's income and family size. The goal is to make treatment affordable to everyone. By taking these factors into account, addiction recovery care providers help ensure that your treatment does not become a financial burden to you or your family, eliminating one barrier to care.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.
hearing-impaired-program thumbnail image
Hearing Impaired Program
A sensory disability, such as hearing impairment, can compound the challenges of addiction recovery. Drug rehabs that are specially designed to accommodate the needs of persons with hearing impairments will include special accessibility features and accommodations to make treatment as comfortable and effective as possible. This may include access to American Sign Language interpreters.
lgbtq-program thumbnail image
LGBTQ Program
Recovery is most successful when clients feel accepted and validated by their peers and treatment providers. Facilities that offer LGBTQ-inclusive programming are committed to creating a safe space where everyone can grow and recover without fear of judgment or discrimination. They will have dedicated policies in place to create a safe and supportive environment that fosters free expression.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

If you struggle with managing your emotions, dialectical behavior therapy in South Carolina might be a good method of treatment for you. This form of talk therapy helps you learn to accept yourself while working on changing unhealthy patterns of thoughts and reactions.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Appointment was canceled due to staff member transfer and we were not notified. Front desk staff members were very rude and they were lying. We believe that the center is bias to minorities and the front desk and billing staff within the facility are unprofessional and there is a lake of good character.

I filled out 8 pieces of paper. Waited an hour. Just to get in the back for them to tell me that they would do an assessment and my appointment would be at least 2 months away. They told me I could always get admitted by the ER. I don't want to be admitted, I want therapy and medication.

I reached out to this place at one of the lowest parts of my life. I have had nothing but problems with seeing a counselor and a doctor. I've been going for about a year now, in the first 6 months the counselor that gave me rescheduled over and over and over. I didn't have a counselor for 6 months. And I've seen my doctor one time in 1 year. Today I had an appointment to see my Doctor. I got to my appointment on time. Sitting in the waiting room and ,some one calls me to the desk and says my doctor won't be there until 12:30 pm. Mind you my appointment was at 8:30am. This was the appointment I needed to get my prescriptions refilled, I have been out for 3 weeks, but I had to reschedule my appoint for 3 weeks out. I'm very disturbed and Angry . If there was a rating for a zero then that's what it would be!!!!!!

Excellent immediate care for my 19 yr old daughter who was having a severe mental crisis. The associate took us to a room and listened to our concerns then had a team meeting to formulate a plan of action. Today, one week later, we had a meeting with the intake psychologist and a treatment plan was devised. The fantastic front desk person coordinated the various appointments and furnished appointment reminder cards for each one. Mr.Peele the intake psychologist was superb as well!
