About Lee Health Behavioral Health Center

Lee Health Behavioral Health Center is located in Fort Myers, Florida. They support children, teens, and adults who are struggling with behavioral health disorders, including substance abuse. Here, you’ll find outpatient care that incorporates evidence based techniques. They accept self payment and private insurance.

They offer different therapeutic services to help you work through your challenges so you can return to a full, productive life as soon as possible. I like that their staff includes many different kinds of providers, including psychiatrists, social workers and nurse practitioners.

Once your treatment begins, you’ll visit their office for individual and group counseling sessions. They also offer medication management and comprehensive case management to remove any barriers to your care. If your team believes that you could benefit from addiction medications, they’ll offer FDA approved options to help you control your pain, relieve your cravings, and reduce your risk of relapse.

A special feature of this facility is that they offer specialized outpatient services for veterans and military families. They have clinicians on staff who have been extensively trained in helping vets overcome common mental and behavioral health conditions, including PTSD.

One client says she’s had nothing but the best care here, and another says the doctors are very understanding and compassionate. However, several past and current clients have had negative experiences with their assigned counselors and felt like they didn’t get the help they needed.

I have been trying to get my son services since 09/2023. Several referrals were sent over. I was told I could be placed on the waiting list on my first call. Then kept calling back to make sure he stayed on the waitlist. When I called in 02/2024 they said he wasn t on it. I asked why he was removed from the list. They kept saying he was never on the list. I told them that he was and that I had spoken to several people over the months prior who confirmed it. She apologized and assured me that she would put me back on the list. In 07/2024 I received a call from Bonita Springs office that they had a new provider at their office and they could get him in. That is over an hour long ride for my child that is now in school. I told her that I had a local provider I was using until I could get into FM. Well I call yesterday to do my usual check of waitlist in FM and to find out if I can possibly schedule in Bonita until they have an opening in FM, since my son hasn t been doing well locally. I was told that because I refused service I was removed from the waitlist. I would have to speak to the intake coordinator in Bonita to see what she could do before they could put me back on the waitlist.. I was also told I was never on the waitlist in Fort Myers. So I say excuse me but I NEVER said I wanted to be taken off the waitlist in FM. I was told that they have no provider to put him on there and that the new provider was already booked up. Excuse me but what new provider? Why was my son skipped over yet again? Why do they keep doing this?? I asked to speak to a manager and told there are no managers. The only thing she can request is a intake coordinator to call. The one I ve been waiting 2 days to speak to anyways This company clearly does not have it together and doesn t even care enough about that to have any oversight. My pediatrician keeps telling me that this is the facility with the most to offer in help. It has been almost a year and they couldn t care less about my son or me. I am so upset with my experience and there is literally no one to even complain and to about it. Shame on you Lee Health for preying on the most vulnerable in our society and treating them like this!!!!

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Clients typically choose inpatient rehab when they are in early recovery or are experiencing a crisis that puts them at an increased risk of relapse. They reside at the treatment center for the length of their program, which may range from two weeks to more than 18 months, depending on the program design. Intensive psychotherapy is often the primary treatment modality, but clients in inpatient care may also receive holistic treatment and recovery-focused life skills training.
intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient
Intensive outpatient programs (IOP) involve frequent and robust therapeutic sessions for clients requiring high-level care. Clients may engage in a combination of medication assisted treatment (MAT), addiction counseling, recovery skills training, and holistic therapies for a minimum of nine and a maximum of 20 hours per week. Intensive outpatient rehab is designed primarily for persons in early recovery, those exiting detox or inpatient care, and those at an elevated relapse risk.
aftercare iconAftercare

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Hello, i was recently seen at lee behavioral health the dr took me off my medication that i had been on for 5 years cold turkey and replaced it with another medication that costs 1,900 a refill. she did not address my anxiety disorder and told me she could help me as i refused to be put on medications that I have tried in the past and didn't work. she then went to the board and said who knows what so now no dr's there will see me. I am disgusted by the way I was treated.

was assigned to David initially. I let him know that I have been in therapy for my entire adult life and had just completed for months and patient treatment. I did not want to dig up my childhood again as I had current trauma occurring. I have stage four cancer and stage three kidney disease and I live in an abusive household. I told him I made a short timeline of events to catch him up. Instead of listening to my knees, he stopped me and started asking for details about my childhood. We made it through third grade in the entire session. When I return from my second session, he let me know that he had put in his notice. Our entire session was wasted. I was referred to Laurie and had one session with her. We decided on doing individual DBT. She had me purchase a workbook and we had a second session during which she informed me that her goal was to get me to use my DVD skills and then released me from therapy. I told her that I live in abusive household, have stage four cancer, and stage three kidney disease. My trauma is ongoing and I do not want to stop therapy. She said good luck. That s how all of these places run. They want high turnover. Then she told me that she had also put in her notice. I told her that the holidays were rough for me because my dad died on Christmas morning. So I scheduled two sessions for the week before Christmas. She canceled both of them.

I love the doctors and therapists at Lee Behavior! I've had nothing but the best care and I've been a patient over a year. Unfortunately there are far more people that will leave reviews to complain than to praise. This review is a 5 star praise!

If I could give a -0 I would never recommend this place to anybody. The front reception was ok, but when I was called back some tall women didn t even say who she was took my vitals went over my meds and had the nerve to ask me what I was their for. OMFG really I said I need help so after waiting almost an hour when I got there my appointment was at 1:10pm arrive at 1pm for paper work I sat there till almost 2 for someone with an attitude to tell me to go back to the front and wait for the NP Right I walked right thru that door bye bye..then I see in My Chart as a no SHOW as clearly I was I checked in incompetent people .so I m going to a private Therapist we re people are on time and don t have attitudes and you don t know what the heck is going on in first appointment WOW

Had been seen by 2 different people, first one was great, he was incredibly helpful but he thought that his colleague would be more helpful because she had worked with postpartum anxiety before. At first things went well and I was improving until I went 3 days straight having horrible panic attacks, after day 3 I called the office and left a message stating I was not doing well (the receptionist was great at reassuring me) was told she would call me back which she did ONE WEEK LATER! Needless to say I left and im just as bad as I was when I started going here. It's a shame they don't care more about their patients, oh and most aren't doctors they are social workers.

I was given a referral to Lee Health Behavioral Health on December 9th by my Lee Health family physician. When I called them on December 11th, I was told they are short handed and not taking any new patients.
