About Kindred Hospital Chicago North

Kindred Hospital Chicago – North is a long-term acute care hospital with many departments. Their behavioral health services provide acute inpatient psychiatric care for adults. This unit has 30 beds for anyone experiencing a psychiatric crisis.

During your stay in this unit, you’ll have 24/7 supervision and care by mental health technicians and nurses. But you won’t just sit in your room the whole time. You’ll have daily structured activities that can help you get back to completing daily skills. You’ll also have recreational activities and expressive therapy to help with stress relief and processing emotion. Individual, group and family therapy might also be part of your custom treatment plan.

I like that they offer free parking in certain lots and provide local accommodations and restaurants for family and friends who might come to be with you during your treatment.

The goal of this unit is to stabilize you so that you can step down into another level of care or return home. The staff will work to help you transition to the next step in your recovery.

Previous clients have mixed opinions. Previous clients who were happy mainly mention the overall experience that they or their loved one had at this location. Those who were unhappy tend to focus on a specific healthcare professional. It’s worth noting that the owner commented on negative reviews and invited them to reach out.

Kindred Hospital provides virtual tours online as well as lets you schedule in-person tours. They are active on their social media pages as well giving you another way to be in contact.

Other Forms of Payment

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Clients in outpatient rehab receive a variety of services based on their unique and evolving needs. Typical outpatient treatment modalities include individual, group, and family counseling, recovery-focused life skills training, and community reintegration support. Many programs also provide medication assisted treatment (MAT) for clients recovering from alcohol and/or opioid dependency. Clients exiting inpatient treatment or those who are at an elevated risk of relapse may engage in more robust treatment, such as intensive outpatient (IOP) programming.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

If you engage in cognitive behavioral therapy in Illinois, your therapist will work with you to change your thinking patterns. You'll learn how to recognize faulty thinking and develop skills to deal with stress without using substances.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy provides you with a safe and supportive environment so you can address a traumatic experience. Your therapist helps guide you to understand your emotional, mental, and physical responses while developing healthier coping skills. This helps to improve your emotional resilience and ability to function in the community.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

My sister is currently at this facility the treatment and care that she has been receiving is horrible everytime my mom and i vist her she's always in the same position and due to her injuries she's not able to move on her own so she has to be repositioned every 2hrs to prevent pressure wounds, she also told my mom and i how she overheard staff saying very rude things about her, it utterly sad that the staff have lack of compassion and communication the system software is so outdated where nurses and cna's dont even document properly the care that there giving to patients they also left my sister lay in urine for a hour while we were there during change of shift YES WE HAD TO WAIT A HOUR for someone to change her because everyone was so focused on GETTING REPORT and the tip of the iceberg is when the nursing supervisor knew that we were waiting for her to get changed and no one did anything which made my mom even more upset and they had the nerve to call security. This place is highly unprofessional there is ABSOLUTELY NO TEAM WORK , staff is not fully trained and this facility isnt using updated software most hospitals are uing epic software to document They dont put patient care 1st !!!!!

I have been here over a month and it has been the longest month of my life but the staff have been amazing. They have gone above and beyond to make sure I feel respected and cared for. Their kindness has been just so healing to my heart as I have spent my whole life in and out of hospitals. They have restored my faith in the humanity of people's kindness, goodness and unconditional love. Shout out to lashka the aid, Stephanie the nurse,Romal the night aid and Andy night nurse. I really enjoyed speaking Spansh with Ingrid the EVS supervisor. Overall it has been a beautiful experience. Sincerely Carmen Guerra

My ex husband was in this facility. He was there for a few weeks. He was transferred from McNeil Hospital in Berwyn. He was in the ICU Unit at McNeil, and need specialized care. He worked with the lung and heart doctor at Kindred Care, for his rehabilitation services. He was able to work with a physical therapist also. The nurses, cnas, and doctors all were very friendly and professional. He liked that nurse Anna gave him motivation. She put on his board "you got this"! The only thing that he said that he didn't like was the small portions of the meals. That almost every meal was chicken. My ex husband is being transferred to another rehabilitation center for further care today. All in all his experience at Kindred Care Hospital was excellent!

Pros: CNA's took good care of my dad (Lashika, if I am not mistaken was wonderful). Nurses also cared for my dad well (Vanessa). Respiratory therapists did a great job weaning my dad off of the ventilator. Felix was very kind and so were so many of the other respiratory therapists .I wish I could remember their names.Cons: Hannah Embry, the caseworker stopped answering all emails and questions. When we asked for her supervisors information, she also failed to ever get back in contact with us. She needs better training on how to speak to the patients' family. You don't just stop responding. The doctors come as they please. They pop in for 2 seconds and walk out. We were told Dr. Olson would come to see my dad before noon. It was 7:45 pm and he was barely coming in but saw that we were waiting and still took his time. He didn't come to my dad's room until 8:30pm. Yes, that is after visiting hours and we waited anyway to try to get some answers regarding my dad's care. I will say though after that day, I did get some of the answers I was looking for.Notes aren't read. My dad was supposed to have certain things done during his care for his tracheotomy for over a week at this point and it was never done by anyone until I told them that it was supposed to be done. It did get taken care of after I repeatedly told staff what needed to get done.If you want to make sure your loved one is being taken care of, BE THERE!! Be present and ASK QUESTIONS!! Advocate for your family.
