I was a patient there who was released on Friday (07/12/2024) and from what the reviews say are somewhat true. There s not really any on-sight therapists you have sessions with to talk to; it s basically psychiatrists and social workers you mainly deal with. It s a hospital not a rehab facility so I didn t really expect there to be therapy sessions, but there was always doctors available if you did need to speak to someone about what was going on. It s also a training hospital so I had alot of resident doctors I spoke to and they were all amazing. I wish I could remember their names. However they do help you figure out a diagnosis as to exactly what s going on as well as social workers to help plan out those therapy appointments whenever you do get released. There wasn t much to do there except color, and word finders but they encourage you to talk to the other patients so you re not isolating yourself unless you HAVE to be isolated. Throughout the day they did have Rec. Therapists do groups that involved self-care like nail painting, gym, outside time, morning stretches etc. to help you with proper coping mechanisms and positive reminders as to why you re alive. I did have an issue with one of my nurses because I honestly felt like she couldn t give less of a crap about her patients but MaryLou and Athena I both give praise to because they cared and listened to you. I also want to praise Stacy (MHW) and Maria (the one she was training) with how funny and attentive they were to the actual patients. They made me feel like a person rather than just some lost soul; I wouldn t be here right now typing this out if it wasn t for this hospital and I couldn t be more thankful. I m hoping they re able to get nicer resources for this facility for the patients that come after me and are still there that I met when I was in there because a lot of it was old and worn out. You can get stuff brought to you from family/friends as long as it follows their policy, but some of them unfortunately don t have anybody on the outside. Thank you again MaryLou, Athena, Stacy, and Maria- you re all amazing and reminded me why I live again.

I'm Jacob T and I was a patient that just got out today. I want to thank my nurse Athena, as well as the 3 other nurses that were assigned to me! Please forgive me, I'm terrible with names but great with faces! Please give all 4 of them my good graces. They each treated me with the upmost respect, patience, and non judgement. Incredibly caring and gentle, and made sure to let me know how valuable my life is. I would definitely recommend kaweah to a family member or friend who was experiencing a crisis. they take great care of you here. This is a temporary place where they hold you and make sure ur safe until you get the resources u need to have continued care outside. That's the job of a psych hospital when you get put on an involuntary hold (I read past reviews). And as for all the other nurses on my unit, I say the exact same about them. Great employees. 5 stars

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

medically-assisted-detox iconMedically Assisted Detox
Drug and alcohol addiction often takes a heavy toll on one's body. Over time, a physical dependence can develop, meaning the body physiologically needs the substance to function. Detox is the process of removing drugs and/or alcohol from the body, a process that can be lethal if mismanaged. Medical detox is done by licensed medical professionals who monitor vital signs and keep you safe, healthy, and as comfortable as possible as you go through detox and withdrawal.
outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
aftercare iconAftercare Support
Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
seniors-program thumbnail image
Seniors Program
Nearly one million adults age 65 and older live with a substance use disorder. Treatment providers who specialize in senior care understand the social, psychological, and physical effects of aging and how they relate to recovery. They can help clients address particular challenges and risks they may face as they get older such as overdosing and medication interactions and dependencies.
hearing-impaired-program thumbnail image
Hearing Impaired Program
A sensory disability, such as hearing impairment, can compound the challenges of addiction recovery. Drug rehabs that are specially designed to accommodate the needs of persons with hearing impairments will include special accessibility features and accommodations to make treatment as comfortable and effective as possible. This may include access to American Sign Language interpreters.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nurses were fine, but dear god are the doctors miserable to deal with. There's also no therapy if hospitalized, so don't expect recovery. Their job is to stop you from killing yourself, not make you *not* want to kill yourself.

This facility has failed my mother as well as refused her quality mental health care. We have been met with nothing but negligence and a lack of exhibiting proactive mental health care. Instead this mental health hospital is just medicating and ignoring their duty to interact with patients. However, a combination of therapy, support, and at times medication, is needed for patients to have a chance at improving. From the facilities website, Patients receive care of mental conditions from experienced psychiatrists. This is untrue, and the psychiatric staff does not see or value these patients as humans. My mom is so sick, and she desperately wants help. We desperately want help getting my mother the care she deserves. The quality care that every individual who is admitted deserves. The staff does not understand that they are not meeting their legal and ethical duties. Dr. Daneshavar (license number A116728) in particular is not complying with the ethical codes of his profession and releasing false information about a very common drug used for bipolar patients. In order to treat people suffering from mental illness, competence is critical. He is certified by the ABPN (ID: 178119) and their professionalism requirements are, Professionalism forms the basis of medicine s contract with society. The ABPN is concerned with those aspects of professionalism that are demonstrated through a physician s clinical competence, commitment to lifelong learning and professional improvement, interpersonal skills, and ethical understanding and behavior. He has demonstrated that he does not meet the listed criteria. Behaviors and actions of his make it clear he has no bedside manner or compassion for his patients. He lacks morality and will not listen to our concerns due to his distorted view of his own professional success , and a high opinion of his own capabilities. While his arrogance cannot be reported as an ethical violation on any board, it shows his character and intentions. As someone who is educated in the field of psychology and psychiatric care, it was alarming to find out just how harmful and dangerous his behavior and lack of competence are. Giving patients false information about a medication and reactions is also an ethical violation. He is a professional and caring for some of the most vulnerable people in our community, yet he is dismissive, rude, pompous, blames the patients, and gives completely untrue information that even someone who didn t know much about this field could easily access a medical journal to show how harmful his misinformation is. There are many more staff members who have shown negligence and lack of competence. The amount of employees this facility has that are in this profession for the right reasons are few and far between, but they are appreciated by families like ours. I will not stop fighting, reporting negligence to each specialty board, and demanding answers for how a whole facility is able to fail so many. It is time to question why their readmission rates are so unbelievably high. Why is the focus not on rehabilitation? Our community and patients suffering from mental illnesses deserve better.

Excellent staff; RNs, MH staff, including Guards. I only had one bad experience with an RN during my 8 or so days, and perhaps she was just having a bad day. (Very understandable with some of the patients there, WOW!!) One of the other RNs liked to compare opinions on various shows on Netflixs and other films and tv shows we had seen, plus recommendations to each other, on the one rare day of her 3 day shift she had a little time to breathe. She also had never had an opportunity to talk to anyone who had experienced Electric Shock Therapy or some time back changed with Shock replaced by Convulsive. I understand perfectly why it is policy not to allow any mental health staff to meet, etc. with any former patients with MH issues. However, is it possible to meet in the safety of the hospital, at the discretion of the RN in this case of course. There are some very dangerous men there, some of which i met there. In fact, while I was there, a every loud female scream was heard throughout a large section of the hospital from a small room there. Obviously, a male patient did something very wrong to one of the female MH staff. Immediately, all the MH staff plus guards who heard the scream instantly dropped whatever they were doing and ran as fast as they could to her aid. Don't know any details, of course, but we patients in the area across from the activity sure we're surprised and curious about it. Also, locked in, perhaps.Anyway, the Bing map i was given befre going to my new housing was very flawed.
