Called looking for a relative 4 days in a row and was told they had no one by that name there. Day 5 finally spoke with an actual Doctor and was told they were there for the last 6 days. Wasted time calling 5 other hospitals for 4 days and filing a missing persons report. I am this person s emergency contact in their computer system and they told him they were not getting any answer when they called me, but they never called me. After that they asked him what my phone number was and he told them and said don t you have it, she s my emergency contact? They laughed at him and told him he never asked them to call me, WHAT??? This hospital is now called Trinity Health and one doctor is very disrespectful and rude and yells out personal degrading opinions before he walks in your room at the door in the hall so anyone can hear and tries to embarrass you if he feels like it, so professional! How about taking a look at the injury before yelling out I can t give you pain pills if that s why your shopping here WOW and just because we came to the ER that time at 3am for an injury fall where his elbow was swelling up bigger by the minute. His bursa sac had ruptured. He doesn t even know us and assumed we want pills? Maybe he s (or should I say Herr, as in Dr.)the one who wants pills, don t go here if you don t have to, go to Hartford. A lot of employees are nice and professional, but there s always one or two that think they re better than you and talk down to you as if your a child. There s no HIPPA confidentiality in this place

I stayed at Johnson Memorial Hospital for 3 days after I had a bad kidney infection and sepsis. It was one of the scariest times of my life, I just wanted to make it home to my kids and I was scared I was not going to. Dr. Edward s, Dr. Grillo, Nurse Alexis, Nurse Carley, Nurse Roberta, and Nurse Beatrice made sure that I was going home and took the best care of me. They eased my anxiety and fear, and took such good care of me. It was the best care I ve ever received at a hospital. I m forever grateful. Thank you! -Caitlin Loiselle

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Private insurance refers to any kind of healthcare coverage that isn't from the state or federal government. This includes individual and family plans offered by an employer or purchased from the Insurance Marketplace. Every plan will have different requirements and out of pocket costs so be sure to get the full details before you start treatment.

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

Experiential therapy is a form of therapy in which clients are encouraged to surface and work through subconscious issues by engaging in real-time experiences. Experiential therapy departs from traditional talk therapy by involving the body, and having clients engage in activities, movements, and physical and emotional expression. This can involve role-play or using props (which can include other people). Experiential therapy can help people process trauma, memories, and emotion quickly, deeply, and in a lasting fashion, leading to substantial and impactful healing.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) is a way of getting nicotine into the bloodstream without smoking. It uses products that supply low doses of nicotine to help people stop smoking. The goal of therapy is to cut down on cravings for nicotine and ease the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Went to the ER today and was seen by Dr. GRILLO. As always the staff is wonderful, Dr. Grillo was very nice, listened to my problem I was having. He was efficient, ordered a medication and called in a few more things to help me. Best of all I was out in 2 hours! The half our ride to Johnson is always worth it.

Over the years my family has been to the emergency room 3 times, last one being this past weekend. We have had outstanding care each time we have been there. It is an emergency room, so you need to wait if someone else needs care more than you do - not sure everyone understands that. I cannot say enough good things about the ER and the people that work there. Thanks for all that you do!

I came here a few weeks ago with kidney pain they refused to do a scan and sent me home with uti meds (didn t have a uti) I ended up back at this place two days later peeing bright red blood then after a ton of complaining I convinced them to do a scan to which I found out my kidney was bleeding and I had a rupture but after that the nurse some blonde girl comes in to give me pain meds not without complaining that I just want pain meds when I m allergic to opioids and if they had actually looked at my chart they would ve seen that so not only was I accused of just wanted pain meds I wasn t checked properly and had a real issue they refused to check for and just wrote me off as a uti and again tried to give me pain meds while accusing me of just wanting some when I m allergic

If I could leave zero stars I would. I was recently at Johnson Memorial Hospital the way the staff treats patients is unacceptable. This hospital needs to be investigated and shut down. The staff doesn't care about there patients. All they care about is getting there paycheck and going home. One of the nurses spilled my soda and got it on the table and all over the floor and couldn't be bothered to clean it up. There was garbage on the floor that wasn't picked up until after I was discharged. This hospital needs to be investigated and shut down for sanitary reasons and how they treat and talk to patients.

If you think u might die, just stay home. This place will never get to u. Better off crossing the gates in the comfort of your own home..Too much hoarse play between doctor/ PA and nurses delaying patient treatment.. Its a fun house.. Staff wearing massive amounts of perfume enough to take your breath away..Poor Quality of Care.I am sure they will respond with their generic message.. That is how much they truly care..

This is worst place I ve ever weny to. The wait was long when the waiting room wasn t busy. And a blonde just sat there. I overheard all their drama. Two nurses, Daniel and Tom were in the bathroom together! A married woman! I heard nurses saying they are afraid to speak up! This place needs to be reviewed internally. My mother was furious at the service she received. I would rather drive to Rockville hospital.

The Acute Psychiatric Unit is an absolute joke and needs to be shut down. Dr. Strom refused to listen to anyone, but himself because he is the Director. I was told I had rights which were posted on the wall and he consistently ignored them and me. He took away my normal medication that I was on for over a year with my therapist. Then tried forcing me to take a med and told me that was the reason I wasn t getting out even though I have a right to refuse. Anytime I got upset with him specifically he tried to justify it by saying I was bipolar and based it on 4 10-minute conversations with him over 4 days and observational nursing notes. I was diagnosed with something completely different the day I left. The nurses rarely leave the nurses station to check in with you. There was mold all over my shower curtain and the bed smelled of urine. I was given 0 support for my ADHD or withdrawals. I never met with the dietitian and lost 5lbs over the course of 5 days. Please take care of your own family. They will return worse going here.

I don t like to leave reviews. But if you want to see your loved ones come home alive DO NO SEND THEM HERE. Worst hospital in CT by far. You are better off taking the chance of going to Baystate or Hartford instead. At least those hospitals take care of people. First time back to Johnson in years since my last hellish experience and as I was being rolled in I hear the docs and nurses talking about their patients and just the craziest and most insane stories. All these negative reviews are not exaggerating. Please, I beg you, do not ever let you or a loved one go here.
