About James Mason Centers of Recovery

James Mason Centers of Recovery is a private rehab center for teens and families located in Salt Lake City, Utah. James Mason Centers of Recovery specializes in the treatment of substance abuse, mental health, alcoholism and dual diagnosis.

JMCR philosophy is to offer teens and their families a solution, healing, and a new beginning.

JMCR was founded by Trisa McBride, mother of James Mason, a young addict that passed away in 2014 for drug over those. After the death of her son Trisa dedicated her life to sparing others the pain her family had suffered through watching James struggle with depression, anxiety and eventually addiction.

James Mason provides a variety of services and treatments to treat with the addiction and mental issues, some treatments include DBT, CBT, Behavioral Health, Art therapy, Recreational Therapy, Yoga, Breathwork and many more effective groups and activities.

Their Outpatient Day Treatment and IOP offers an intensive therapeutic experience while allowing your child to live at home by providing multi-family groups, parent processing groups and weekly family therapy.

James Mason Centers for Recovery offers a fully accredited schooling program where children get the opportunity to catch up on credits that may be holding them back, to receive the help they need to return to school and take their life in a new and empowered way.

inpatient iconInpatient

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

outpatient iconOutpatient

Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.

intensive-outpatient iconIntensive Outpatient

Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are for those who want or need a very structured treatment program but who also wish to live at home and continue with certain responsibilities (such as work or school). IOP substance abuse treatment programs vary in duration and intensity, and certain outpatient rehab centers will offer individualized treatment programs.

heart-hands iconIntervention Services

Intervention services helps family or friends of addicts stage an intervention, which is a meeting in which loved ones share their concerns and attempt to get an addict into treatment. Professional intervention specialists can help loved ones organize, gather, and communicate with an addict. They can guide intervention participants in describing the damage the addict's behavior is causing and that outside help is necessary to address the addiction. The ideal outcome of an intervention is for the addict to go to rehab and get the help they need

aftercare iconAftercare Support

Completing a drug or alcohol rehab program shouldn't spell the end of substance abuse treatment. Aftercare involves making a sustainable plan for recovery, including ongoing support. This can include sober living arrangements like halfway houses, career counseling, and setting a patient up with community programs like Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA).

Heart icon Treatment

alcohol iconAlcoholism

The goal of treatment for alcoholism is abstinence. Those with poor social support, poor motivation, or psychiatric disorders tend to relapse within a few years of treatment. For these people, success is measured by longer periods of abstinence, reduced use of alcohol, better health, and improved social functioning. Recovery and Maintenance are usually based on 12 step programs and AA meetings.

drugs iconDrug Addiction

When you enter a drug rehab in Utah, the process usually involves four stages: treatment initiation, early abstinence, maintaining abstinence, and advanced recovery. Treatment methods can rely on medications, counseling, or both, in either an outpatient or inpatient setting.

check iconDual Diagnosis

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

mental-health iconMental Health

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

substance-abuse iconSubstance Abuse

Substance rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from substance abuse, including alcohol and drug addiction (both illegal and prescription drugs). They often include the opportunity to engage in both individual as well as group therapy.

Hand holding medical sign icon Clinical Services

inpatient-file iconCognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

art-brush iconCreative Arts Therapy

Creativity is inherently healing, and can help those in recovery express thoughts or feelings they might not otherwise be able to. Creative arts therapy can include music, poetry/writing, painting, sculpting, dance, theater, sandplay, and more. Unlike traditional art, the final product matters far less than the experience of creation and expression itself.

dialectical iconDialectical Behavior Therapy

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

family iconFamily Therapy

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

intervention iconGroup Therapy

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

mental-health iconIndividual Therapy

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Nutrition Therapy

Nutrition therapy, aka medical nutrition therapy (MNT), is a way of treating physical, emotional, and medical conditions through diet. Specific dietary plans are designed by professional nutritionists or registered dietitians, and patients follow them in order to positively affect their physical and mental health.

Rational Behavior Therapy

Rational Behavior Therapy (RBT) is a form of cognitive behavioral therapy meant to be short-term and comprehensive. It was intended to help clients become more self-sufficent and move forward without the need for expensive, ongoing therapy. It includes an emotional self-help method called “rational self-counseling,” the purpose of which is to give clients all the skills needed to handle future emotional issues by themselves, or with significantly less professional help.

recreational-therapy iconRecreational Therapy

Recreational therapy (aka therapeutic recreation) uses creative and fun activities to help with addiction recovery. Recreational therapists lead patients in entertaining and engaging activities like sports or games; art (drawing, painting, sculpture); drama, music, and dance; and/or community outings (field trips) to improve patients' physical, social, and emotional well-being.

house-medical iconTrauma Therapy

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Past client here, I spend almost two months at JMCR and during that time I was able to make so much progress to become the person I always wanted to be. JMCR allowed me to see my strengths and find love for myself, It taught me just how compassionate I really am and the impact that I have on others. Reggie and his team are experts in their field and work tirelessly (with love) to affect positive change in their clients. I remember on one occasion some of the staff were just reflecting on the emotional energy of time and tears started to well in their eyes. They told us how they just want the best for us and truly were expressing just how much they cared. Where other treatment programs might be punitive, JMCR takes a different approach to build you up with respect and compassion to help you find your strengths. Nothing could have helped me more than how JMCR helped me. I will be thankful for it for the rest of my life and I will never forget the people I met along the way! It s important to note that I tried other treatment centers and they didn t quite work GO WITH JMCR you won t regret it!

When our daughter first arrived she was in a very dark place mentally and emotionally. She suffered from depression, anxiety, and suicidal thoughts. It was devistating for our whole family. I am happy to say she graduated yesterday, after 3 months, and is now a new happy creature who is full of life. Not only did this experience change my daughter's life, but it shifted the whole dynamic of our family, repairing relationships along the way. I will be forever grateful for the care she received. Reggie was her therapist and did an incredible job. He is the BEST.If you have a loved one in need of healing I highly recommend JMCR. The staffing is fantastic and the treatments work! Group therapy, sound therapy, yoga, family therapy, rec therapy, processing and more. Thanks JMCR for changing our lives, and saving the life of my daughter!

JMCR has proved to be one of the biggest blessings in our son and our family s life! Although our son was super anxious to attend day treatment, the staff made his transition to this new environment a positive and life changing experience. We can t say enough good about his assigned therapist (Reggie) who was a perfect match for him and our family. He helped us work on things as a family to better support our son and the work he was doing during the day. We loved how he challenged our son with genuine care and concern for his growth and development. In the end, our son is now more equipped to cope with the challenges that anxiety and depression bring to so many teenagers like him. Thanks to the founders for having the strength and courage to start such an impactful company. From the front desk receptionists to the billing department to everyone who helped our son, THANK YOU!

I just wanted to give a HUGE SHOUT OUT to ALL the amazing staff at JMCR. The environment there is very welcoming. The whole place is very upbeat all the time. When we arrived there I felt very desperate & to my wits end, no clue on where to start with my son.He did not want to do treatment at all. Our life was in a downward spiral for the past 6 months. Missed his first day. He wasn t ready. He panicked. He relapses the first day we take him & I'm ready to pull him out take him into a live in facility calling up the poor person who answered the phone at 8:00 at JMCR that day bawling lol...... I m ready to be committed now. They handled it all so calmly said it was normal it will be ok we can work through this not to worry. I tell you what there were a few bumps in the road but in that first week I saw a huge difference in my son for the better.Every day that much better WOW !! I m being totally honest with this. I could not believe it. My son started in January with Day treatment & is now ending with IOP & graduating now in March yaaaay....... I m so proud of him & how hard he has worked for this. We are going to miss your sweet face Sydney you are the best. We will miss seeing you all. The parents to......

I am a former patient from this treatment center. I graduated in May of 2019. My experience at this place was truly outstanding. I loved my therapist, she was truly an inspiration to me and definitely knew how to help me. This treatment center made me feel validation, and heard. The staff there is truly remarkable. They really do care. When i first started, I was incredibly angry at my parents and told them I didn't need treatment, but in reality it really did. This place may not be the perfect fit for everyone, but it was for me. I 100% reccomend looking into this place. I will always cherish the time I had there and will never forget the positive experiences I had there. I finally know what happiness means and I know how to have control over my feeling. Thank you, James Mason and the staff for changing my life completely.

My son spent 3 months at JMCR in their day treatment program and then in the intensive outpatient for a few weeks. When he started he had some severe depression and anxiety that made it so he was no longer able to attend his traditional school. We can't say enough good things about our experience there. The entire staff is incredible! We really loved our therapist, Amy! He was so nervous the first day but he very quickly came to love the other kids there and the staff. He looked forward to going everyday and in the end it was really bittersweet having to leave. They have an alumni program where he can return every other week for a gathering and he really looks forward to going to that. They took care of everything with insurance and his high school credits so that he wouldn't be behind when he went back to his High School. It was a really stressful time for us and it was wonderful to not have to navigate all of that as well. From the time he went into James Mason to the time he left he's been like a completely different kid. The skills they taught him have helped him to get back to his normal fun loving clever self and I can't describe how nice it is to see him happy and enjoying life again.

I want to thank to J. Mason center for the incredible help they provide to my daughter. Reggie, our therapist at the center was the only one (after many) who could understand and explained to us my daughter's mental issues. After that we were able to work as a family to help her. It's a long road but when you understand how to proceed all the pieces of the puzzle start falling into the right place. Thank you Reggie and thank you to the entire stuff, you guys rock!
