About Improving Lives Counseling Services, Inc.

Improving Lives Counseling Services offers mental and behavioral health counseling for kids, teens and adults in Oklahoma. At their main office in Tulsa, they provide outpatient programs to help you overcome a range of conditions, including substance use disorder. They accept self pay, private insurance, Medicaid, Medicare and Soonercare.

When you first connect with your care team, they’ll perform an assessment to understand more about what you’re going through and how they can help. Here, they specialize in individual, couples, group and family counseling sessions. They also offer case management, life skills coaching and spiritual development.

If you have a co-occurring psychiatric condition, their evidence based therapies can help you address those symptoms. Some of the treatment models they use include eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, neurofeedback and brainspotting. I think it’s neat that they allow you to attend counseling in person or online. They even offer sessions that use virtual reality.

I have had a wonderful experience with this agency, especially with Annie, the executive administrative assistant. She is always prompt, courteous, and very efficient with my inquiries. She has gone above and beyond to make sure that I connected with the decision-makers that I needed to reach. Honestly, she is the model for what a corporate organization should look for in their admin staff.Kristin

Horrible wouldn t recommend to anyone they really don t care about your mental health. My therapist randomly quit on me for no reason and was told staff will reach out for another therapist but no response. For years I refused to see therapist out of fear of speaking up. I finally take the initiative to do it and it just goes completely downhill. This place is example of why people don t see seek help and one reason mental health in America is huge crisis. The therapist would randomly call off or some how only see me every other week instead weekly and kept acting like I was doing great when I was not and even told her I m not doing good. Fast forward to present and I m mentally worse and no therapist. Avoid at all cost only when here due to recommendations from my psychiatrist but big nightmare. Who quits on their patients for no reason at all? I felt discouraged like I said something wrong or did something wrong. April McLoy was my therapist and she failed me.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. First and foremost, we deeply apologize for the frustration and pain this situation has caused you. It s unacceptable that you were left without a therapist and without follow-up from our team, and for that, we are truly sorry. We are saddened to hear that April s departure from the agency was not communicated to you properly and that a transfer to a new therapist didn t happen as it should have. We want to assure you that this is not the standard of care we aim to provide, and we are actively working to prevent this from happening again in the future. Your mental health and well-being are incredibly important to us, and we would love the opportunity to make this right by helping you connect with a new therapist who can offer the consistent support you need. If you re open to it, please contact us directly, and we will prioritize getting you the care and attention you deserve. Again, we sincerely apologize for how things were handled, and we appreciate your feedback as it helps us improve.

Please do not use this company. They make excuses for not getting back to you. They blame everyone but themselves. If you are needing help try someone else. They are non responsive and couldn't find their @$$ with an Air Tag or GPS.

We apologize if it is taking longer than you had hoped to get started. We only have 3 providers that are contracted with your specific EAP which makes it a little more difficult to find an opening. We have been diligently working diligently since last week when you requested services in order to find someone that is able to see you. The request was just sent to another provider 45 minutes ago. Please call us at (918) 960-7852 if there is anything else we can help you with. Thank you.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

outpatient iconOutpatient
Outpatient Programs (OP) are for those seeking mental rehab or drug rehab, but who also stay at home every night. The main difference between outpatient treatment (OP) and intensive outpatient treatment (IOP) lies in the amount of hours the patient spends at the facility. Most of the time an outpatient program is designed for someone who has completed an inpatient stay and is looking to continue their growth in recovery. Outpatient is not meant to be the starting point, it is commonly referred to as aftercare.
inpatient iconInpatient
Inpatient rehabs provide extra support for clients in early recovery and those at a high risk of relapse. They allow clients to focus on their sobriety safe from outside distractions, stressors, and addiction triggers. Clients reside at the treatment center for the length of their program, where they receive extensive addiction counseling, including individual, group, and family therapy. Many programs also offer robust life skills training and holistic therapies, such as meditation.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.
adult-program thumbnail image
Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.
program-for-men thumbnail image
Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
program-for-women thumbnail image
Program For Women
Rehabs for women provide a safe, nurturing space for female clients to heal. These treatment programs consider the specific obstacles that women can face during recovery and place a special emphasis on mental, social, physical, and reproductive health. They explore how each woman's experience has shaped the trajectory of their substance use, addressing issues such as sexual abuse and past trauma.
child-program thumbnail image
Child Program
The providers who specialize in the children's rehab space understand the specialized needs that this population faces. School-based and social services such as tutoring and family counseling are often central to treatment. Child programs may also address the needs of youth experiencing substance abuse in the home, including a parent's or sibling's addiction.

Clinical Services

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy provides you with a safe and supportive environment in which you can confront and address the emotional and physical impacts of traumatic events. Your therapist helps you understand your emotional and physical responses and develop healthier coping skills, which lowers your anxiety level and provides you with greater self confidence.

Whether a marriage or other committed relationship, an intimate partnership is one of the most important aspects of a person's life. Drug and alcohol addiction affects both members of a couple in deep and meaningful ways, as does rehab and recovery. Couples therapy and other couples-focused treatment programs are significant parts of exploring triggers of addiction, as well as learning how to build healthy patterns to support ongoing sobriety.

eye-movement iconEye Movement Desensitization And Reprocessing

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Without proper life skills, it is difficult to build a path to a better future. Life skills training gives you the tools you need to gain control of daily life and face challenges head on. This makes life skills training a crucial part of recovery programs in Oklahoma.

Using recreational therapy in Oklahoma within a drug and alcohol addiction treatment program helps you find joy and purpose within healthy activities. These could include gardening, group games, team sports, and swimming. These activities promote relaxation and social interaction, which are crucial to sustain long term recovery.

Very, very disappointed with the way I was treated here. They don t follow up like they say after completing intake, and then when I got a call today after sending an email about it, the therapist was trying to make things even more difficult for me. It bodes very badly about the services and treatment I would continue to receive from this place if I actually started.

I m shocked that this company got back to us so quickly. I called over 7 agencies and they were the first to call back.I spoke to Annie and she was very attentive and proactive to our needs. She was kind, very detailed, and willing to answer any of our questions. Based off my experience, I would highly recommend going to improving lives.

Lackluster.I had one good couples therapist, but we just weren't challenged enough.Apart from that, the case manager was always late to appointments, so you'd only get maybe 30 minutes out of the hour you are owed. Then, my personal therapist was always rescheduling appointments most of the time at the last minute. So I'd wind up going two weeks between appointments. I was not getting the help I needed here, so I moved on.I only asked my individual therapist to reschedule for my own reasons or to work around my couples counseling, maybe 2 times. Compared to the handful of times, I was pushed off or canceled on. I should have just read all the terrible reviews for this place to begin with.I'm not surprised that whoever commented on my review is just looking to prove me wrong.

Thank you for reaching out to us. After reviewing your chart it seems like Kirsten had to reschedule often so that day would not conflict with when you were seeing Raechel. I have not seen a notification that you would like to be reassigned but I will be happy to get a new therapist assigned to you. Please reach out to info@improvinglivescounseling.com if you would like to be reassigned and we will get you with someone new ASAP. Thank you.

Let me just start by saying I understand giving Grace and having patience. I am however a little disappointed as I have been at this since mid April trying to get services set up with no success yet. I tried again today, was given another phone # which went straight to VM. UGH!!!I have also not spoken to anyone on the phone yet that seemed super happy at their job which is not encouraging. Each person seemed robotic, short, irritated and bothered by my questions.I am going to at least wait a bit longer to see if the assigned person will be worth the wait.Food for thought Improving Lives, those on the front lines can help someone feel welcomed and comfortable when headed down a road that leads to help.I will be happy to update my review if this in fact has a positive turn around.

I apologize for the delay. I contacted the therapist who was assigned to you and she let me know that you are scheduled to talk this afternoon

Really appreciate the services and the way the counselors are so attentive and lovely. The atmosphere is cozy and feels like you're just sitting on the couch at a friend's house. The process of going through therapy isn't always easy, but they have friendly staff who make the pain tolerable.
