Mehtodical and strict security treat visitors like they are criminals and the floor staff are not better. Visiting hours are limited and overly restricted. I was treated like a criminal trying to stay to visit my mother while she was in a stay there, being coldly and callously evicted by the nurse on duty. My father was not even allowed past the entrance because it was after 9PM. Most other hospitals have 24-7 visiting, so the claim that visiting policies are in line with state regulations is bogus. My mother was also given a higher dose of a medication than she should have, and no one claimed responsibility. I would advise against using this hospital.

Other Forms of Payment

Self-pay involves paying for treatment out of your own pocket. You can use savings or credit, get a personal loan, or receive help from family and friends to fund your treatment. If you don't have insurance or your insurance plan doesn't cover a specific program, self-pay can help ensure you still get the care you need.

Financial aid can take many forms. Centers may have grants or scholarships available to clients who meet eligibility requirements. Programs that receive SAMHSA grants may have financial aid available for those who need treatment as well. Grants and scholarships can help you pai for treatment without having to repay.

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Levels of Care

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Many of those suffering from addiction also suffer from mental or emotional illnesses like schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, or anxiety disorders. Rehab and other substance abuse facilities treating those with a dual diagnosis or co-occurring disorder administer psychiatric treatment to address the person's mental health issue in addition to drug and alcohol rehabilitation.

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Programs

young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Adult Program
Adult rehab programs include therapies tailored to each client's specific needs, goals, and recovery progress. They are tailored to the specific challenges adult clients may face, including family and work pressures and commitments. From inpatient and residential treatment to various levels of outpatient services, there are many options available. Some facilities also help adults work through co-occurring conditions, like anxiety, that can accompany addiction.

Military Program
Serving in the military is both mentally and physically challenging, and can result in trauma that persists even after combat ends. Military programs are tailored to the specific and often complex needs of active duty personnel, veterans, and military families. Clients often access these programs through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

Clinical Services

Men and women receive emotional support from their peers during group therapy sessions. These are typically people who face the same struggles that you do. This exposure fosters a sense of camaraderie and community while reducing feelings of isolation and loneliness that often accompany addiction.

Even though I had to wait, I received excellent care when I went to the ER. The doctors and the staff were wonderful, very caring and professional. I also liked how clean the place was. Thank you all for your service and dedication, I'm better now.

Specifically for the ER: My husband was hit by a car while riding his bike, and then taken to Huntington Hospital in an ambulance on July 30th of this year (2024) at around 4pm. He was wheeled into the hallway of the hospital because all of the patient rooms were full. He was bleeding from multiple wounds. There were no blankets. No one tended to any of them. He was given x-rays several hours later. He had to ask for water several times before getting one tiny cup. I wasn t able to see him until just before visiting hours were coming to a close. He was freezing, bleeding, and in so much pain. There were nurses casually on computers not working with patients. When a patient comes in from an ambulance after a vehicle accident, there is a standard trauma procedure that is supposed to be conducted to check for head trauma and other bodily harm. He received no such care whatsoever. A random volunteer laid a sling on him, not knowing if he was actually able to put it on himself or not.I was called at around 11:30pm to pick him up because the doctor didn t feel like coming in to do surgery on him that night. We were told very clearly to call a specific doctor at 8:00 in the following morning in order to follow up because his shoulder was shattered and would need reconstructive surgery. We were not properly discharged that night, which caused us problems later on.Also, we later found out that the x-rays revealed that my husband also had a broken wrist on the opposite arm that they either missed or we were failed to be informed of.The overnight staff: After my husband s shoulder reconstructive surgery, it was advised that he stay overnight to be monitored and comfortable. The overnight staff is completely untrained, negligent, and unempathetic. My husband was in a lot of pain even with pain medication and was still connected to the IV and circulation machines, which made going to the bathroom very difficult. The nursing staff is supposed to be trained in how to handle patients and assist them in and out of the bed and how to help with their medical needs including using bathroom facilities. The nurse threw a bottle at him and told him to pee in that. But one hand has an IV in it so he couldn t bend it to use it, and the other one was in the sling and couldn t move because it just had just undergone surgery. So neither arm is useable and they wanted him to somehow urinate in a bottle by himself. Obviously, in the condition that he was in, he couldn t fight with them, tried to do as they said and then spilled his own urine all over himself.Every monitor of the patient next to my husband in the same room was alarming at the same time for a nurse to come check in on him. My husband tried calling the nurses station. The device for calling the nurse is inaccessible because it assumes that you can reach it, which was difficult for my husband without assistance. It also has a weak voice receiver so the nurses on the other end cannot hear you. So, they kept ignoring my husband s calls for help all night long. Also, the thermostat was set very high, so my husband was sweltering all night. He called for the nurses station several times for pain meds and temperature change and they ignored him. When I was able to visit him the next morning, it was obvious that he hadn t slept all night. The daytime nurses are wonderful, lovely people. It's a completely different experience from the night shift and the ER. They're so helpful and responsive. This entire experience has been traumatic. We would sue for gross negligence but we just want to move on with our lives.

After spending 5 days at Huntington Hospital, I am finding it impossible to leave any comments less than great. The ER experience was fine, with a very short wait. Xray and other tests showed a broken Fibula, and surgery was indicated. Dr. Greenbaum had an opening the next morning. This was done, and then it was time for several days of rehab. The stay.was almo

This is the worst hospital I ve ever experience. My daughter is on there on their psych unit in the way that it is ran up there is disgusting for over 20 minutes she was sitting there with chest pains. No one helped her I had to scream and act out for her to get assistance. The nursing supervisor was very rude and the nursing staff need new nurses . I would never refer Huntington Hospital to anyone. If you have loved ones, don t bring them here. And that one I had to put because they wouldn t allow me to post this, but if it was up to me, they would ve got a zero. Ur

If I could put 0 stars I would . The level of care while I'm dealing with stage 4 cancer is horrible . Waited over an hour pushing the nurse button to watch it get cleared and then had a nurse be so rude on 3 north day shift . That nurse should be fired . Screw Huntington and all of northwellThat's why i went to msk. Which they at least act like they careThe nurse Beatrice and thier crew of nurses are the worst . Can't find an iv for nothing then when asked for medication I rang the bell for over an hour and all they did was cancel it . Northwell clownsLet me add when in the ER a lady came to draw blood and hit a nerve that I felt down to my thumb. Day 4 getting worse . Huntington hospital denies it happened . Nurse Beatrice and her assistant should be ashamed of how they treat me and all other patients. Stage 4 brain cancer and the treatment was subpar at best . Do not go hereMy arms are all black and blue where they can't find a bell . I'm not 90 I'm 41 . Food 10/10 that's it

BEWARE of the incompetence at HUNTINGTON HOSPITAL! They sent a man in his 80 s with COVID, hospital contracted pneumonia and Sepsis into surgery! He was transferred to another NORTHWELL Hospital .. incredible NEGLIGENCE .. all because they couldn t be bothered to read his medical reports or follow through with the team at their same system hospital!End result .. he died as a result of receiving anesthesia while having all of the other hospital induced sicknesses! Be especially careful with the nurses and doctors on the ORTHOPEDIC floor as well as the visiting specialists such as pulmonologists and cardiologists. They clock in and clock out without any communication or general care of patients. DRIVE into the city if it s not an emergency and spare your loved one s life!!
