About Houston Men’s Rehab

Adult & Teen Challenge of Texas Houston Men’s Rehab was established in 2006 and is located on 4.9 acres with a pond in Magnolia, TX. Most of the staff and leadership are themselves graduates of the program. Men receive room and board, group and individual biblical counseling, parenting classes, spiritual support, relapse prevention, anger management, drug and alcohol education, and social/recreational activities as well as vocational rehabilitation and sober living for program graduates.

Houston Men’s Rehab’s dream is to put hope within reach of every addict or at-risk youth by offering life transformation through our caring, Christ-centered programs.

Through our proven solutions for life-controlling addictions, our hope is that every Houston Men’s Rehab student will become a productive member of society. Mentally sound. Emotionally balanced. Physically well. Spiritually alive.

Houston Men’s Rehab is a faith-based solution for the drug epidemic. The scope of Adult & Teen Challenge has grown over the years, and now serves adults as well as teenagers. There are just under 200 Adult & Teen Challenge campuses in the United States, and over 1000 centers worldwide in close to 90 countries, which provide Christian recovery services to individuals of every age and social background. Typically, these services are long-term residential recovery centers that provide a life-encompassing environment through which the participant is able to change their lifestyle and develop a plan for a future free from addiction. Another core tenet of Adult & Teen Challenge is drug abuse prevention, which educates young adults on the dangers and reality of drug abuse in our society.

This campus is a wonderfully challenging place that heals the spirit of a man and helps replace his bad habits with many new ones. Bible said "out with the old and in with the new". It's not easy by any means and it's not built to be easy either, however if one can SURRENDER ALL THINGS to Jesus and allow him to take the wheel, this could be a year of awakening, renewal and restoration. The staff here are very patient, kind, loving people that invest in the guys and work to help them achieve spiritual victory. It might be a work program, however I've never met anyone that got sober being lazy. It puts AC in the dorm and also it helps others come that don't have the means to pay for it. Teen challenge is doing wonders for people and they deserve to be recognized for it. Keep up the good work guys.

Addiction Treatments

Levels of Care

inpatient iconInpatient
Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.
sober-living iconSober Living Homes
Sober Living Houses (SLHs), aka sober homes or halfway houses, are safe, substance-free, supportive living facilities for those recovering from substance abuse. Ideal for those who've just been through inpatient or outpatient treatment, SLHs are supervised environments with rules that support sobriety, such as curfews, shared chores, and therapeutic meetings. Residents are also often trained on life skills and coping skills to make it easier to transition into society. SLHs also provide a strong sense of community that can lead to the kind of deep and lasting connections with other sober individuals that supports a new, healthy lifestyle.

Treatments

A combined mental health and substance abuse rehab has the staff and resources available to handle individuals with both mental health and substance abuse issues. It can be challenging to determine where a specific symptom stems from (a mental health issue or an issue related to substance abuse), so mental health and substance abuse professionals are helpful in detangling symptoms and keeping treatment on track.

Programs

teen-program thumbnail image
Teen Program
Teen programs are designed to address the unique pressures teens face, pressures that can drive them to experiment with dangerous, addictive substances. They need programs that meet them exactly where they are and give them tools for long-term recovery. Therapy can help teenagers understand and work through underlying issues so they can reclaim the life ahead of them.

Program For Men
Men face specific challenges and concerns when seeking addiction treatment. Gender-specific recovery programs help them tackle these issues head-on in an environment that's focused, targeted, and distraction-free. It also gives them the opportunity to connect with and learn from other men who have been through a similar journey and can offer support for the next step.
young-adult-program thumbnail image
Young Adult Program
Young adulthood can be an exciting, yet difficult, time of transition. Individuals in their late teens to mid-20s face unique stressors related to school, jobs, families, and social circles, which can lead to a rise in substance use. Rehab centers with dedicated young adult programs will include activities and amenities that cater to this age group, with an emphasis on specialized counseling, peer socialization, and ongoing aftercare.

Clinical Services

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Life skills trainings involve all the skills a person must have in order to function successfully in the world. These include time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teaches the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets clients up for success in life, and therefore sobriety.

If learning to live without a substance or practice was easy, it wouldn't be called "addiction". Adult and Teen Challenge Magnolia focuses on taking a man as he is, offering him ways to be changed in his heart first, and then working with him to break addiction cycles.Yes, it is a 12-month intensive faith-based program. Yes, it requires diligence. Yes, there are physical and mental "challenges", hence the name. No, it is not easy. And, the most essential ingredient is that the man has to want to be changed. We allowed the addiction to take over and wreak havoc. If you want to be changed, you have to invite God in to change you. And, the crux of the program is in the name itself: challenge. This is not 12 months at the beach, in the mountains, or on a ranch. But, it is not boot camp either. Not by any stretch of the imagination. This is 12 months for an addict to be ironically selfish and focus on getting himself right, both spiritually and physically. You truly get out of it what you put into it. And, if breaking addiction was easy? There would not be so many facilities like this to help men and women get their lives together.

I was in this facility for 3 days. I went to get help with my drug addiction. I was hoping for counseling and therapy what I got was anything but that. There are 0 medical professionals on the staff. The staff consists of poorly trained ex addicted who have completed their indoctrination by the program What you can expect from this place is countless hours sitting in silence with no instruction other than pray If you are looking to join a CULT or just for a free place to live for a while and don t mind the Jesus band aid being applied as the answer to every single issue, you might consider it. If you are looking for ACTUAL HELP, I would not recommend Teen Challenge. I actually felt worse when I left than when I arrived. I was there voluntarily, yet when I decided to leave they wouldn t even let me use the phone to call a ride. But, they are super Christian people who are there to help you, so you do the math on that one. Addiction is a devastating mental illness that should be treated as such. Teen Challenge falls embarrassingly short of that.

This staff and interns of this place stole some personal hygene items, and 2 pocket knives that were supposed to have been placed in safe keeping . You would think that a place that claims to be Christian they wouldn't steal from some one that is struggling to make ends meet as it is. $ 320.00 was given in advance for lab work and towards the $1500.00 they ask you to pay before you graduate. I stayed a total of 2 days. No lab work was done. Did I get the cash back that wasn't used? No I did not.. I was told it was spent already??? Wow... Doesn't sound like a place I would want a loved one to be trusted to considering the way they don't honor their "Christian" values!

This is a place that you can go to for spiritual awakening if you want to put in the work. There is zero leadership for the "students" it's a program consisting of about 50+ hours of classroom time and the test is spent working. The classroom is basically a daycare room where you recieve about 6 hours of work for the month and the rest of the time is spent staring at the wall. There is no talking allowed from 7 PM to 7 am. They are overly concerned with the negative someone does and pay no attention to the positive or milestones reached with a student. Rather than helping people seek the Lord closer they are concerned with making sure you are in the "proper" prayer position of on your knees and head on your hands. They are known as the laughing stock of the other campuses. I would recommend any other campus in Texas. Azel, TX or San Antonio or Brenham. I was there for 3 months and left because of the discipline structure there.
