About Hospital Pavia Hato Rey Inpatient Psychiatric Services

Hospital Pavia Hato Rey Inpatient Psychiatric Services is an integrated healthcare provider in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Their inpatient psychiatric services involve 24/7 psychiatric evaluation and treatment of patients over 18. These services are provided in a highly structured setting in their behavioral care unit. They employ proven therapeutic practices to address various psychiatric conditions. This includes depression, bipolar disorder and PTSD. A few others include personality disorder, schizophrenia and substance abuse or addiction.

Drug or alcohol addiction is a psychiatric condition because it changes your brain chemistry, causing impulsive behavior that influences your mental and emotional health. The facility delivers whole person and personalized care focusing on your emotional and physical condition. They provide group and individual therapy to help you uncover the underlying mental health issues fueling your substance use. You’ll develop coping skills and relapse prevention strategies. Through their psychoeducation sessions you’ll gain a comprehensive understanding of mental health and substance use including the consequences of overdose as well as potential recovery options.

They also offer nutrition and recreational therapy. This forms part of their holistic approach to care delivery. Recreational therapy such as hiking or yoga enhances both physical and mental wellbeing. Their services also include occupational therapy and social work services. The latter may involve connections to community resources like housing, employment and education programs. This may form part of their discharge plan or aftercare services. They also connect you to recovery support groups for ongoing care or provide referrals to outpatient facilities for continuous recovery.

Horrible, they take too long in the emergency room, the doctors making jokes with the nurses, the bathrooms are disgusting... the waiting area where they administer IVs, smells bad, is dark, is not clean.

Other Forms of Payment

Medicaid is a state based program that helps lower-income individuals and families pay for healthcare. Medicaid covers addiction treatment so those enrolled can use their coverage to pay for rehab. When a program accepts Medicaid the client often pays very little or nothing out of their own pocket.

Medicare is a federal program that provides health insurance for those 65 and older. It also serves people under 65 with chronic and disabling health challenges. To use Medicare for addiction treatment you need to find a program that accepts Medicare and is in network with your plan. Out of pocket costs and preauthorization requirements vary, so always check with your provider.

Military members, veterans, and eligible dependents have access to specific insurance programs that help them get the care they need. TRICARE and VA insurance can help you access low cost or no cost addiction and mental health treatment. Programs that accept military insurance often have targeted treatment focused on the unique challenges military members, veterans, and their families face.

Levels of Care

Residential treatment programs are those that offer housing and meals in addition to substance abuse treatment. Rehab facilities that offer residential treatment allow patients to focus solely on recovery, in an environment totally separate from their lives. Some rehab centers specialize in short-term residential treatment (a few days to a week or two), while others solely provide treatment on a long-term basis (several weeks to months). Some offer both, and tailor treatment to the patient's individual requirements.

Treatments

Mental health rehabs focus on helping individuals recover from mental illnesses like bipolar disorder, clinical depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia, and more. Mental health professionals at these facilities are trained to understand and treat mental health issues, both in individual and group settings.

Clinical Services

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapy modality that focuses on the relationship between one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It is used to establish and allow for healthy responses to thoughts and feelings (instead of unhealthy responses, like using drugs or alcohol). CBT has been proven effective for recovering addicts of all kinds, and is used to strengthen a patient's own self-awareness and ability to self-regulate. CBT allows individuals to monitor their own emotional state, become more adept at communicating with others, and manage stress without needing to engage in substance abuse.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), a treatment designed to help people understand and ultimately affect the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. DBT is often used for individuals who struggle with self-harm behaviors, such as self-mutilation (cutting) and suicidal thoughts, urges, or attempts. It has been proven clinically effective for those who struggle with out-of-control emotions and mental health illnesses like Borderline Personality Disorder.

ECT is a form of treatment in which controlled electric currents are passed through the brain, sometimes causing short seizures. Treatments are done under general anesthesia. ECT appears to change brain chemistry for the better, and has been shown to provide fast and sometimes dramatic improvements in severe mental health conditions that can exist alongside addiction, including depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, and suicidality. ECT is also often used by those who prefer it to taking medication.

Research clearly demonstrates that recovery is far more successful and sustainable when loved ones like family members participate in rehab and substance abuse treatment. Genetic factors may be at play when it comes to drug and alcohol addiction, as well as mental health issues. Family dynamics often play a critical role in addiction triggers, and if properly educated, family members can be a strong source of support when it comes to rehabilitation.

Group therapy is any therapeutic work that happens in a group (not one-on-one). There are a number of different group therapy modalities, including support groups, experiential therapy, psycho-education, and more. Group therapy involves treatment as well as processing interaction between group members.

In individual therapy, a patient meets one-on-one with a trained psychologist or counselor. Therapy is a pivotal part of effective substance abuse treatment, as it often covers root causes of addiction, including challenges faced by the patient in their social, family, and work/school life.

Trauma therapy addresses traumatic incidents from a client's past that are likely affecting their present-day experience. Trauma is often one of the primary triggers and potential causes of addiction, and can stem from child sexual abuse, domestic violence, having a parent with a mental illness, losing one or both parents at a young age, teenage or adult sexual assault, or any number of other factors. The purpose of trauma therapy is to allow a patient to process trauma and move through and past it, with the help of trained and compassionate mental health professionals.

Very poor patient care, little empathy and a complete lack of respect for waiting time. I hope I don't have to return to this place.

This building is in urgent need of internal renovation:1. The rooms are too uncomfortable for the equipment and medical care that patients require.2. They have completely damaged and inoperative beds.3. There is a lack of personnel in all areas, especially nursing, so those who are there cannot cope.4. The only existing cafeteria has exaggerated prices for both food and basic necessities.5. Patients do not have a bell from their beds to call the Counter or Nursing in case of emergency. Instead, they have a campaign to get served.

I had a miscarriage due to the negligence of the doctors here! My obgyn told me "well the baby was probably going to have special needs" and when I went to the emergency room to get help because something was out of the emergency room, the doctor at pavia hato rey hospital emergency room told me in the same SENTENCE"Well the baby is fine, wait you were actually never pregnant, oh my apologies you just have to go rest in bed, well you are actually miscarrying but I really don't know what is going on" I was so confused and distraught that I had to go take an emergency flight to the United States to find out if I was going to be okay. When I got to my specialist in the United States, they told me that the baby could have been saved if it weren't for their negligence. I am forever traumatized. Don't go here!!Their bedside manners are terrible and they have no idea what they are doing!!
